Adding a few of these to my TBR
@@nolwazi20 glad to hear! Hope you enjoy them 😊
Added all of these to my TBR thank you for the recommendations!
@@aasiyah107 you’re so welcome! Do look out for our full reviews on Instagram as well ☺️
I love this!!!!!
Thanks for watching! What 2025 books do you have your eyes on?
@@thecandidbookclub Salutation Road I am getting it today. Thank you for the great recommendation
Let us know which new books you're looking forward to reading in 2025!
Pachinko was one of my favourites of this year too! Definitely worth the 500+ pages!
I also didn't like Romantic Comedy and agree that the first half was interesting but towards the end of it till the very end of the book was a bore and dragged on
Haha great minds! What a drag 😂
Just finished The chain and recommend it!
I read Pachinko this year too, it is a stunning read. Very heavy and long, but I’m glad to have read it and I learned a lot. I have The Mountains Sing on my tbr for 2025. Adding The Chain, that sounds great heartbreaking and infuriating, which is apparently what I go for! Your least faves I probably wouldn’t have picked up anyway 😂 but I do want to read Such a fun age. Lots of great recs here and great discussion 😊
As usual Mimi and I are the same page. Some of my favorites that I would recommend: Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar. Worth all the hype. Very good reflection on finding meaning and dealing with addiction in our contemporary world. Smoke and Ashes by Amitav Ghosh. About the surprising way the poppy (and opium) in intertwined with human history. Aednan by Linnea Axelsson about the lives of Sami indigenous women in the form of an epic poem. Don't let the page count scare you it is verse, and short verse at that. But some perspectives that I still think about months after reading it. Backlist gold, and a re-read: There There by Tommy Orange. Re-read it to read his new book Wandering Stars, but was a bit disappointment by that one. But I loved There There a lot more on a re-read.
I have Jaded on my tbr and had to jump in to see what you thought of it and I’m even more excited to get to it now! 😊 Thank you for sharing, and will come back to watch the rest when I’ve had a good nights sleep 😊
You all are amazing! Thank you for the amazing video! Just reviewed some non fiction books on Palestine on my channel, and I'm always looking for people doing the same. Just added some books from Susan Abulhawa to my collection, and now I have more books to add, tks to you. 🙏🏽🍉

Such a good event!! Looking forward to next years one!!! ❤
Thank you so much for coming!!! ❤
Nice discussion - weirdest books I read over the last couple years were weird and gross - Earthlings by Sayaka Murata (was grossed out by the end), weird and wonderful - Nona the Ninth by Tasmyn Muir (sci fi which must have been written on psychedelic drugs with the warmest and best hearted protagonist), weird and awful and excrutiatingly BORING - The Star Touched Queen by Roshan Chokski (so wanted to like this, it was terribly disappointing and the weird was pedestrian), weird and innovative - Fifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis (excellent, mind-bending fiction, set in familiar Toronto neighbourhooods and meditating with great sweep on what if the gods made a bet and 15 dogs became intelligent in a human sense)
Thank you for such a comprehensive list of weird books 😂😂 defo going to look into them 😊
Lool
@@Ostomateforlife 😂😂😂
The weirdest book that I have read is Piranesi by Susanna Clarke . So odd . 😂
@@Emma1231 oooh not one we’ve read - will look into it 😂😂
@@thecandidbookclub Piranesi is weird and brilliant
Love thiss!! 😂
@@Shaninxq haha thank you for watching! 📚😅
Loved this so much
Open Water was amazing, then i read Small Worlds...amazing-er!
So glad you enjoyed them both! ❤
I feel the same about The Vanishing Half but don't think it was that bad🫣 Brit Bennett is an incredible writer but I wasn't interested nor remember most of the story even now.
Yes! If you've not read The Mothers, please get to it soon - it's so good by comparison! But as for The Vanishing Half it's worth reading Passing by Nella Larsen :)
I thought "Such a Fun Age" was so MEH and then after seeing your review of "Come and Get It", I knew I couldn't waste another moment being curious about her second book. I have both Coco Mellors books in my TBR and I am excited to read them one day soon (ish). I think it was her third book, so maybe not relevant here but for me the most disappointing follow-up to a book that received critical acclaim was "You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty" by Akwaeke Emezi. "The Death of Vivek Oji" was such a stunning, profound book and then YMAFODWYB was so meandering and tedious by comparison. I couldn't believe they were written by the same person!
You're right not to waste another moment thinking about Come and Get It! Hahaha re Emezi - we actually really enjoyed the messiness of YMAFOD but totally appreciate it wasn't as good as previous work!
Loved this! So fun
Thanks so much for watching!
I picked this up at the library after hearing about it on your channel. I loved it! A lot of themes all woven together well and different levels to them. And I loved her Dad too! Thx for recommending as based on the cover and blurb not sure I would have picked it up.
Fantastic discussion as always. I’ve read the book and agree with all your thoughts. Ela did great with this book, the title, the slap (lol) and the whole identity of children of immigrants/mixed race kids 👏🏽
@@yasmin3530 thanks so much for your feedback and for tuning in. You’re right - It’s such a page turner with so many themes and all of them so well done!
I loved Jades Dad!
@@Ostomateforlife us tooo 🥰
