Watford Carnival 1965
A short, silent cine film of the 1965 Watford Carnival. It might re-kindle some memories for those around at the time. I wonder if the Carnival Queen will see this! Can't be very many moving images of this event. Enjoy!

Ford 100E Popular Deluxe 831MPF journey up from Eastbourne to Beachy Head and across to Birling Gap on 25 February 2022. This was part of a thirty mile 'shake-down' drive after a period of winter maintenance and repairs in advance of the 2022 display season. Both front windows were down to 'air' the interior, hence the wind noise. Over the past five months the electrical system has been refurbi...

Aurora 7's return to Earth. Launched May 24, 1962 the spacecraft completed 3 orbits. This audio recording was during the communication black-out. It demonstrates the astronaut's coolness and skill during a crisis in the cockpit. Partly because he had been distracted watching the fireflies and partly because of his busy schedule, and a malfunction of the automatic alignment system, Carpenter ove...

Here we see the stripped and prepared body shell mounted on a bespoke jig. This device allowed for 360 degrees of unrestricted rotation along the vehicle's 'x' axis. Essential structural reinforcement was installed in key areas prior to removal of damaged/corroded metalwork. After 50 years of service, a highly detailed examination of the unitary assembly was required. Areas deemed unsatisfactor...

Brings back memories. I had one of these for my first car. Same colour, same year of manufacture but mine was an Anglia. Lovely. Its registration number now belongs to a bus in Norfolk.
I'm often asked if the colour is original, not many realise that it was one of many unusual options, one being Pembroke Coral, (pink).
State of the art for 1917.
I thought 7621 PX was the best 100E Popular in existence, but this one is equally excellent.
1PX (Pixie) is or was owned by a former spares secretary of the Ford Sidevalve Owners's Club. It featured in the Phil Collins music video "Take Me Home" and on the cover of the Haynes' 100E Super Profile book. At the time of publication and filming, 831 MPF (the producer's first choice) was undergoing maintenance and I proposed Pixie as her stand-in. During 2008-2009, 831 MPF underwent a 'bare-shell up' restoration, which can be viewed on this channel, and at a cost that far outweighed its value. 831 MPF has a full history from new and can be seen occasionally around the streets of Eastbourne in the summer months.

Can anybody tell me what a Ford 1956 popular deluxe is worth
Does anybody want to buy a 1956 Ford popular deluxe?
Excellent!
Great pics, Ron. I spent my working life in car development and always liked 100Es so this is right up my alley. I'm fixing up a 55 Anglia. It's very rusty. Mart.
Excellent shots, Ron. Great to see all the early features. I am fixing up a 55 Anglia and it has some of the features shown. Thanks for putting this together. Mart.
I remember seeing Trans Canada Airlines Vanguards at YVR.
Beautiful job.
Excellent.
Excellent reference. A great job being done. Nice to see some old fashioned gas welding. Mart.
Excellent reference material. I'm welding up a much rustier one than this and these images are very helpful to me. Thanks. Mart.

I had a two door, blue 100e sidevalve as my first proper car ( it replaced an Issetta bubble car!) I think badged as a Popular. Long time and many miles ago .
Love all those English British made cars
The only good thing about the 1172cc side-valve, was the fact they were so cheap when it went wrong you just binned it, and put in another one. Gerry, a friend owned a 100E Escort estate car! How many people can remember them?
yes the engine needed a re-bore at least by 40,000 miles
I'll have the 100E anyday, and I'm not even a Ford man.
I used to drive the light blue Anglia around Penang. It was a second hand car we bought just to get around the island and travel around Malaysia. Great little car too. Apart from the mini my mother and I got our licence in, we really cut our teeth learning driving properly. Never let us down. And we had a great Malay mechanic who kept it tuned to perfection each service. Citroen shape. No idea if car registration PF9833 is still driving around Penang. We left Penang in '71, and the car was pretty old then. If it's still going around that would be great.
In the UK many of these were used with fibreglass bodies as sports cars. So simple to work on.
I drove a 1958 100E (English Ford Anglia) 2-door while in high school. It wouldn't run at interstate speeds but it was one of the most fun cars I've ever owned. Now,, to find one that hasn't been completely butchered is virtually impossible in the US. I know because for the past ten or so years I have searched for one but now, at 77, I've given up because I don't have much time left. It only had a small flat head four cylinder engine but it did everything I wanted it to do and it was totally dependable with terrific gas mileage. I'll always treasure the memories of that little car.

I just got my RHD 1956 Anglia two door running. Super fun.
My Grandfather owned a 1958 Anglia version. I have fond memories of it except it used to overheat a lot.

Im here for the all white faces coments...here we go..
_a malfunction of the automatic alignment system, Carpenter overshot his planned re-entry mark_ ...That is letting Scott Carpenter off very easily. He deliberately wasted attitude control system fuel because he blatantly disregarded orders and performed unauthorized maneuvers. The recovery crews and their backups were furious that they had to spend so much time and effort and unduly risk their own safety to go on a hunt for him. When they found him, he was sitting in his raft and cockily offered them a bite of his food. He was fired immediately from the astronaut corps, though NASA did not openly say that.
You are being unfair. Go to the Smithsonian and see what these guys had to fly. Such rudimentary unreliable systems. The temperature rose to 102 degrees both in the capsule and Carpenters body. Try orbiting the earth in all those conditions and then flipping a switch which he did 3 seconds late. If you listen carefully you can hear the distress in his voice. All 7 of these guys took incredible risks for the advancement of science.
Great videos and brings back so many memories. The first car I owned given to me by my father way back in early 70s. The front suspension mount was always vulnerable to corrosion and MOT failure.
Wheezy old side valve engines... The only modern thing was the style. A Morris minor was a better bet.
They weren't meant to be hot rods. They were just great little cars that were built to do a job carrying passengers and cargo around town and they did it quite well. I drove a two door 1958 100E while in high school back in the very early 60's and it was one of the most fun carts I've ever owned. For what it was built to do that little four cylinder flat head engine was not bad and I couldn't complain about the fuel mileage at all. I later had a '63 Anglia with the upgraded engine and it wasn't a bad little car. It DID pull a 5x8 U-Haul trailer from New Jersey to Florida, fully loaded, with no hesitation. I'd love to find a complete '58 100E but sadly the dragster community has all but destroyed any hope of finding one that is restorable if it's not already in a scrap yard.
Terrible outdated wheezy old engines even back in the 50s
To me aircraft such as the SE5a, Sopwith Pup and Triplane are exquisite icons - that are far, far, more beautiful than what zips noisily about the skies today!! 👍
First car I owned aged 15 in 1975. Spent every weekend taking it apart and putting it back together. I learned so much mechanically from her.
Just nice to classic cars.
Carpenter was a Navy test pilot when he was chosen by NASA to become one of the first American astronauts.
The fourth American astronaut to rocket into space, Carpenter orbited the earth three times but controversially went beyond his intended landing zone.
Are you related to the late Donn Eisele?
He was a true hero, whether it was recognized by his peers or not.
If only England kicked out all the undesirables and started building world-class aircraft again!
The first astronaut to be officially screwed over by Christopher Kraft.
Have you read "Deke!"?
Excellent. Still in Battle of Britain movie colours. Certainly had the wick turned up. Alot more sedate these days.
Great video well done.
So calm and collected in such an intense and hostile environment. These test pilots had nuts of steel. No capacity for fear.
p.s. 434 looks like its still in brown and green from the B of B movie which would only have been filmed a couple of years prior to this?
....when displays really were displays. I remember regularly going to Dunsfold in the late '60's and always jumping out of my skin when the spit and hurricane came belting in over the crowd from behind at about 30 feet to start the display. They also had the last flying Hawker Hart that sounded equally awesome which I think is a static display in the Hendon museum now (sigh).
This is Mel Smith's old car, isn't it? The one from the Super Profile?
This was extremely interesting. thx for posting!
Now......there was a pilot.
Love it! Thank you very much! Did the Vanguard fly year around to channel Islands or was only in summer?
