When Kate Fitzgerald (Doreen Corkhill) left the series it affected me like a bereavement. I was profoundly upset for months!! I really missed the actress who played her. Does anyone have the episodes where she returns years later with peroxided hair to find Billy living with Sheila Grant? She gets proper hard faced and it's explosive!!! Classic television. Most of the hardcore Doreen and Billy's episodes together were written by Jimmy McGovern.

So annoyed i had all the episodes of the explosion on tape, but chucked them all years ago im so stupid!!!

Meat and two veg! Hahahaha Julia was a classic. Tragedy that Gladys Ambrose died way before her time. Anyone remember her doing a PA in Liverpool's Church Street, about to sing.. "Isn't it freezin'? I knew I shoulda put me John 'Ills (Long John's) on!"

What's worse is not only did she leave her child at home, but I think she lied to her boyfriend about having a child, because the boyfriend kept saying the daughter was her niece or something.

RIP Gladys! She was the best character by a mile in Brookie. i remember one scene she did with grandson Rod (the Plod).."You might look 6 foot tall with yer 'elmet on, but yer not too big to go over me knee". Another great one when the Corkhills were fiddling the electric meter (" do you remember that time when we wound the meter back too far and it was the middle of summer? We 'ad to turn the heatin' on an' open all the doors" - conversation between Julia and Rod's mum). Sheer class.

sorry but this was when the show got very much carried away with itself. anyone who remembers the show from 82 up till the early 90s will remember the shows writing was much better and more realist than this tosh.
