Had no idea that was the trick to beating him. So awesome. I stood toe to toe with him and just got murdered over and over again. I discovered though that if you open his door and run away he goes into a cycle of just wandering his room so you can range attack him to death and he won't even notice. Just have to make a mad dash to pick up your projectiles when you run out.

Maybe my memory is suspect, but I recall taking far more hit points than that each turn and needing only one attempt to beat him.

I actually managed to make it to the dragon in my youth. This game does not have any save more so you had to do it before the batteries ran out. And it's a long and difficult game. I didn't manage to beat the dragon, couldn't figure out how. Thanks for showing me.

Does anyone know of a defect in the ending of the NES games? Many moons ago, I played this game non-stop with my friends. We did everything but, of course, without the internet, we were often going around blind using trial and error. I remember getting to the final stage and beating the Floors but then . . . nothing. We tried EVERYTHING to get the game to move forward but the option to place the cards never appeared. Praying did nothing. We even leveled up to the max thinking that was it. But nothing worked. We gave up, and decades went by but it still bothers me to this day. Wondering if anyone had a similar experience. (P.s. I feel like Tom Hanks in BIG writing this.)

At least the ending is slightly better than the Apple II version, plus it helps tie in how the ankh came to be the symbol of a avatar...

I remember fighting this guy at like Lv23-26 and I DIDN'T have Erdrick's Sword. Just a Flame Sword. 4-8 Damage per turn I remember, and finished in your same situation, Not enough MP, and within KO range.
