    Thanks for the video an chrono results. I just picked up a .17HMR and chrono'ed various loads. It was so accurate that I went to ten shot groups and stretched it out to 200 yards. What really surprises me is that there's no flyers with any of the various brands and types. With the VMax, it shoots a little over a half inch at 100 and under 2 inches at 200 (ten shots)! I should have bought this a long time ago!

    I just ran across your video. And wanted to comment. I’ve shot about 6000 rounds of this to different lots and I’m getting your 50 yard group is what I’m getting at 100 yards but I’ve noticed that my cold shot usually goes wild that is the first shot out of a cold barrel and if I switch mags. The first shot goes wild. I’ve shot Ely Target and it shoots good but my gun doesn’t cycle because the charges in as strong as the auto match which I have very few malfunctions with it. I’m still looking for the right ammo for my 1022. I’m still on the fence about going through the hassle of measuring and weighing rounds to get a better tighter group. I think measuring rim thickness has more effect than just the weight. I think rim thickness has more to do with head space and jump. What do you think?

    • @socalplinker
      @socalplinker 8 месяцев назад

      First awesome that you are getting such groupings at 100yds with this ammo… as for cold bore shots… I honestly don’t pay much attention to it because in all the matches I have been in….my barrel is warmed up during the zeroing session..as for weight and rim thickness measuring… I think it drops some of the variance you get with plinking grade ammo but is it worth it… for me… only if I have no option in terms of not having match ammo available… thanks for watching and commenting…

    CCI has become consistently inconsistent in their ammo manufacturing. I guess when you can sell every round you produce, things like consistency and performance are second to the dollar. Lot to lot you will find huge differences in accuracy, if you get a good lot its good. If not you, like me will look elsewhere. It's a shame because I have shot CCI ammo for 50 years. Dear CCI it will not always be a sellers market. You are loosing the thing that made you great in the first place, high quality consistent ammunition. You guys can, and need to get back to quality control

    Great video and obviously a great rifle. Based on your review, yesterday I purchased the CZ457 Varmint in 17 HMR and waiting on a CZ barrel chambered in 22LR. Two questions. 1. Are you aware of any ballistic calculators that, once zeroed at 50 yards or 100 yards, can assist in predicting impacts at 150-400 yards. 2. What bean bag make and model were you using to steady the rifle rear stock. Keep up the great video's!

    So, help me understand just what I saw. The first couple of groups at 50 yards averaged 1175 fps or so. The last group, had the same ammo, 100 yards, chrony in the same position and they only averaged 1125 fps or so. What is it that I don't understand? Thanks!

    • @socalplinker
      @socalplinker 9 месяцев назад

      If you looked at the 50yd sorted ammo… the Extreme Spread is just over 50FPS…it just shows the inconsistency in the ammo and so it wouldn’t be an ideal replacement for match grade rimfire ammo which would have a lower ES and SD…thanks for commenting and watching…

    • @wadebrinson8977
      @wadebrinson8977 9 месяцев назад

      @@socalplinkerDoesn't make sense to me. Sme sorted ammo. The only change was the yardage but somehow you lose 50 fps with velocity being taken at the same distance from the muzzle? Can't be right!

      No worries… the inconsistency of the ammo could be multiple factors… quality of the projectile that they used or the inconsistent powder volume or even how the primer paste was used… so in summary it is about their QC of there ammo… hence the price difference of match grade ammo and plinking ammo..

    I put my 10-22 in a Magpull Hunter x-22 stock and it took me a little while to fine-tune all the variables (action screw torque setting -17.5"/lbs, as well as the fore end screw that holds the barrel as it is not a free-floating rig), but once those were dialed in, I was getting the same kinds of group with the SK Standard Plus as you did. Honestly, the way this rifle is shooting, I have no real need to put another barrel in it or to glass bed the action. It's light's out at 50 yards all day long.

      @@socalplinker Well dialing in a new stock like the Hunter is a lot like load development; the only way to make sense of it is the be methodical in your testing so you can recreate it and come back to what works best. Otherwise you're all over the place. One of the most important part with the 10-22 I've found is the amount of torque placed on the action screw, I think it's one of the most overlooked and most important factor you can change.

    I have the old original CZ 452 American and it was one of the first manufacturer's to make a rifle for the 17 HMR ( I use Hornady ammo). My wife knew that I had wanted one of the CZ's in 17 for a few years and she surprised me with it when I was home on leave from Iraq in 2004. Originally I put a Bushnell Banner on it but eventually put a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 on it with Vortex rings (in 2006). I don't remember doing much paper shooting with it; just getting it on target at 100 and going from there. My son in law used to take wooden matches and stick them in the top of a styrofoam cooler and shoot the match heads at 100 with my CZ. Then he eventually got enough of his own money and bought his own CZ and ammo. One fun thing was to take half gallon milk jugs full of water and place them at 200 yards. Blew them up real easy. Then, we started placing raw eggs at 200 and that was just a little bit more challenging...not because of the gun or the 17hmr, but because of my lower powered scope, LOL! The last time I had it out about two years ago, I shot a badger on our property at 224 yards (measured it with a range finder). One shot, DRT. I never have put it on a paper target since the original sighting in. Maybe I should.

      Sorry I lied...the rings are Millett steel rings.

    A gun that will shoot cheap ammo is a keeper

    I wouldn’t want nobody shooting at me at 100 yards that’s a head shot.☠️

    Fun vids you make. Just wondering where do you get to practice this? I’m in so cal also and just starting to shoot some more since getting injured playing adult hockey and dirt biking. I’ve plinked here and there since the early 80’s but, nothing technical. I stay away from Hodge Road because of the CROWDS and end up far west of it, but live in OC. Learning some from your vids, thanks.
