Spoiler warning: I will be spoiling the narratives of a Shakespeare play written 425 years ago, an almost-40 year old 80s movie staple, and a 15 year old Universal Monster turd. I will defend this view vigorously and with much profanity. Shout ...

It Stinks! A Profane Review of The Garfield Movie
do you think Criterion will put out Good Will Hunting?
I think they would cause it would undoubtedly sell units. But I don’t think Miramax/weinstein will license to them
The guy that played Serge is also the same guy that played the annoying Mr. Toomey in Langoliers. He was another of Walter Peck from Ghostbusters in that movie just playing an annoying asshole.
Good eye!
Watched 90 seconds, decided you weren't a pleasant person. Foul-mouthed, dressed sloppily, rude and vacuous. Your opinons are likely to be worthless. Please knock one view off your total count of nine in two days.
You insult me and yet claim that I'M not the pleasant person? You really think I'm the rude one? I haven't insulted you at all. I'm sorry you did not like my video, and thank you for the interaction.
See? I think I'm perfectly capable of being pleasant.
@@popculturemass Good job!
Please review Megalopolis. Then again, don't watch the movie. But if you do, please review it.
It's gonna happen! It looks like a grand piece of shit and I'm gonna watch it and yell about it!!
Finally someone who thinks the same as me about this movie. To me it was so ham fisted and contrived it was just mediocre at best. The only thing saving it was how well it was acted. If the actors didn’t know how to make their droning sound meaningful, or they didn’t know how to show emotion (like most horror actors) then this would’ve been a 1/10 easy.
God I hate A24. The fact I said “at least it wasn’t as bad as longlegs” after leaving the theater.
YES! Not only are you the smartest, but you also have the best taste. You’re invited to Thanksgiving with my family.

Bro thanks for the video 🎉
Thanks for the motivation to make it! I managed to yell about movies for 45 minutes and not wake up my kids. I def wanna know what you think about any of my recommendations you happen to watch!
Dazed & Confused is 1 of the few Criterion 4ks I have. Growing up in Texas, this was a staple growing up.
It's a great movie too! It was a staple amongst my dumb stoner buddies in high school in Atlanta too lol
ive never seen The Awful Truth but I'm very very intrigued now, might have to grab it this month
HOLY SHIT IT'S SO GOOD I think people's mileage on older films varies - but I really love old Hollywood stuff, and screwball comedy is my favorite for it's quick dialogue and fun characters, good times and no melodrama lol. Love this movie.
Fuck it, you got a PO Box or something you can DM me?
VHS is awesome. End of story.
Agree to disagree (but you’re wrong tho) 😬
MY MAN!
Thank you for talking against pan and scan. That is an immediate non starter for me.
"Pan and scan - that great insult to God - is an affront to all that is holy and pristine" - Werner Herzog
Personally, i haver never liked vinyl but appreciate why some people like it - when CD came out in 1982, it was a revelation. I still love CD. Being able to record tv programmes for the first time on an analog domestic VCR was amazing in its time but i just do not understand why anyone would chose to watch a VHS tape in 2024. An image is made up of luma (B&W) and chroma (colour). The stats for lines of resolution (varying for PAL vs NTSC) are approximately - LUMA CHROMA VHS 240 30 DVD 410 205 Blu Ray 1080 540 4K 2160 1080 Upscaled DVD still looks good to my eyes in 2024. Obviously Blu Ray and 4K are better but having a single 4K player that is backwardly compatible and can play back all my 12cm discs, whether 4K, Blu Ray, DVD or CD is fantastic to me - especially as someone who bought Beta originally in the very early 1980s. OK, VHS Hi Fi gives great sound but the colour resolution of VHS and all anolog domestic VCRs is shocking. SVHS and SuperBeta also all have 30 lines chroma resolution i.e. shockingly awful - these higher band formats only managed to improve on Luma resolution. I heard that Alien Romulus is being released as a limited edition 4:3(!) VHS release. To collect; possibly, if you collect - but to watch, a big no! Long live the 12cm disc.
True, but maybe 2% of the people buying vinyl actually even play the records.
That's why I steal all my vinyl from senior citizens (100% true lmao)
Finally, someone who acknowledges the terrible quality of VHS. It sucked back in the day, and it still sucks today. People don't seem to understand the notion of available technology, at some point in time. You're right, VHS was a thing just because we didn't have anything else available, at that time. I've seen some guys here, on youtube, even comparing movies on VHS vs DVD vs Blu-ray. Are you kidding me? What's to compare? I wonder if these guys have any notion whatsoever about video quality, video resolution and other technical aspects. Tape was the worst idea ever for video. It worked for audio (and I'm talking especially about reel-to-reel tape), but it completely failed in the video department.
It's like the suck is nostalgic for some people too. Shit sucked in the past, that's why I'm happy to not have been alive back then. Having a VHS player? These fools should go full Amish with the horses and the barns and the overalls and shit. Embrace the suck of the past.
I've got VHS, Beta, LD, DVD and Blu-ray. My preferred is LD, just because of the novelty lol. The bulk of my VHS collection came from a year when the wife and I where pretty broke. VHS was 3 for a dollar at the goodwill. So we'd stop in after work on Friday and pick up 3-6 tapes for our weekend entertainment. I still buy VHS if i come across something i don't have at a yard sale or a thrift store for 50 cents. But if im seeking out a title, i look for LD then DVD.
I wanna see a movie where a guy throws a laserdisc at another guy and the laserdisc like lops off part of his head like in Commando. That would improve my general outlook on dead formats of physical media. Then maybe if Jackie Chan could use a VHS tape to fight off like 30 other dudes. Fuck I wish I still had my LD player....
as my main man Samuel L Jackson said in Long Kiss Goodnight, "I just sock 'em in the jaw & yell pop goes the weasel"
As my man Sam Jackson says in True Romance “I eat da pussy, I eat da butt, I eat every mothafuckin thang”
@@popculturemass "grab yourself an egg roll, we got everything here of a diddily eyed Joe to a damned if I know"
@@thelastmoviestanding "A FUCKIN SHARK ATE ME!!!" wait was that Dave Chappelle?
VHS would have better odds if the broken players didn't destroy the tapes. Just the fact that you can't test movies easily is the number one reason why the media is dead. Learning how a VHS player works, is going to give you a headache, it is an over complicated mess. It's just not worth it.
No shit! Who wants to spend $80 on a VHS copy of Videodrome only for it to be eaten by a grumpy old VCR? Them shits are haunted anyway, the Ghost in the Machine. Pretty sure the Criterion 4K of Videodrome is half the cost of the VHS, as dumb as that feels to say.
The main problem with VHS are the players. It's so rare to find a player that works. The worse part is that the broken players tend to destroy the tape that is inside. So basically you end up with a bunch of movies you can't watch or are reluctant to watch because there's a 50/50 chance the player will destroy the tape. The low odds of a working player forces you to end up watching the DVD or digital version. VHS is basically worthless. Vinyl survived because the player is simple, the concept of the Vinyl is simple, this made it easy for the trend to come back.
I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever really stopped manufacturing new record players either. Even during the 90s, I think you could get a new turntable or record player. I feel like boomers clung to their record collections (my mom did, and so did my father in law) in a way that folks didn't cling to their VHS. DVD came along and VHS was forgotten. TVs improved and the ecosystem continued to leave VHS in the past. The audio ecosystem of audio receivers and speakers never really grew out of record players, and new record players meant new features like bluetooth, which helped keep vinyl alive.
Finally thank god someone saying what needs to be said.
I collect wax cylinders, they really remind me of the old days!
Vinyl is not good.
How so? Or rather, what is the basis for your opinion? I'm not being a shit, I'm genuinely interested in your position, as the popular consensus seems to be that vinyl produces a good quality sound. I suppose it is like other physical media in the sense that a better setup will produce better results, the condition of the vinyl, etc.
One last qualification: Movies that aren't on disc or streaming
I noticed this trend in the past 2 years and it's just stupid. VHS tapes are nice for a museum like retro collections and stuff maybe, but again this idea that we all should be rushing to collect and mark up the value of this shit and that they are making new VHS is just dumb. This is coming from the same people who are marking up the NES, SNES and N64 crap, that never marked down in value, and that floors me. The rule is that old tech should be marked down in value, but this rule never hits Nintendo, and now this mental cancer is spread to VHS.
PREACH!!!!!!!!!
I don't agree that 4K is the be all and end all. All of us that lived through the VHS era know (whether we care to admit or not) that VHS is garbage, and we all jumped onto the DVD as soon as we had the chance.
I made the swap to DVD so fast. It was such a game changer, the kids these days have no idea
VHS was so handy! Back in the day, I’d hook a radio up to it and record talk shows! Rush and Alan! Art Bell! Good times!
HOLY SHIT I LOVED ART BELL!!!
wait til you see my American Pie collection... lol its my Princess Monoke
I've seen bits and pieces from what you've put in videos/posts... It looks fuckin rad
I have 4 different Star Wars triple set VHS box sets... its bad lol I need to go to AA 😂
Star Wars VHS box set is pure early 90s nostalgia for me... I'm gonna go visit my folks soon and see if I can dig it up
I have the 1995, 1997, and 2000 sets. Plus the og and special edition episode 1, Vhs of episode 2, and dvd of episode 3.
from what ive noticed, Pan & Scan is only super distracting (to me) when the movie is shot on Anamorphic. The Last Action Hero dvd pan & scan looks AWFUL!!! DVD did pan & scan as well. DVD's were Full Screen formatted back in the day too
Yes! I still have a small handful of early DVDs that are pan/scanned or cropped to 4:3 AR. I have a couple that are double-sided discs with "Widescreen" on one side and "Fullscreen" on the other...
@@popculturemass yea I still have a lot of those DVDs lol half my 1,750 movie collection is still DVD. I low key like having Full Screen versions of some films. I have that female western from the 90s Bad Girls, on the full screen you see more of Drew Barrymore undressed than the widescreen... just saying lol
Full screen is always best when it comes to boobies. Don’t letterbox them titties namsayin
@@popculturemass 🙏🏻preach
I personally hate vinyl lol I don't like the way it sounds. BUT, I have been collecting CDs again, I didn't grow up with Vinyl, CDs sound good enough for me & is nostalgic my early days of collecting music
CD is also the format of my youth... I have been connecting with vinyl the past few years mostly as a way to "connect" with some of the older folks in my life. My mom has a serious vinyl collection from the late 60s to early 80s and they haven't been spun in decades. She doesn't even have a record player anymore but for some reason she has kept these records for 50 years. My father-in-law too. I think for both of them they like the idea that their physical media is getting some love now even 50 years later. I love looking at the records and seeing the physical wear on the sleeves. I feel connected to my people when I interact with their vinyl (and thankfully they're still here to vibe with me).
its really dumb 🤣 I will admit, STUPID! but I love buying them. ive only both 1 VHS for $40, all other are $1-$3. Here's my crutch, I love finding sealed VHS, it's a stupid OCD thing but I like it. When it comes to comparing it to vinyl, I 100% agree its NOT the new vinyl, VHS tapes, the more you watch, the worse it gets, but I still like watching & buying them. But I can admit it really is dumb haha
Vinyl also gets worse the more you listen to it, especially if you don't keep your records clean.
They could've inserted the SD gore footage into the 4k of the theatrical for Silent Night, and I might've bought it if they had, but instead they only gave the cut theatrical on 4k. It's because they can't get the film elements of the uncut footage to actually get it into 4k resolution. I actually liked the first Winnie the pooh film and heard the 2nd one is better with a bigger budget. I think it's a pretty novel idea that we haven't seen previously, so anything to remix the tired old slasher formula I'm for at least it being tried. Mickey mouse slashers are being made as well, Mousetrap is already out but heard they cutaway from the gore, and David Howard Thornton from Terrifier is in Screamboat next year based on the steamboat Willie cartoon.
Damn they doing a Steamboat Willie horror!? Is it gonna have Mickey in it?
The beast creatures VHS was a prior blu release within the past couple years from 1 of their partner labels. The VHS releases are always of films they've already released on disc.
I surely would have noticed that if I didn’t huff so much paint thinner. My brain is Turpenoid©️™️

Hubie Halloween is a better werewolf movie than The Wolfman…. 😈
@@popculturemass hey! Don’t knock Hubie 😂 that movie is my shit hahaha & yes 1000x better than wolfman
@thelastmoviestanding I think Hubie Halloween is great and I’m tired of pretending it’s not
I got fused at in my last video from 1 guy about spoiling Body Shots from 1999… I admit i didn’t say “spoiler warning” which I normally try to do, but the movie is 25yrs old & if you havnt watched it then you ain’t watching it now 😂 If I didn’t sell you on Tara Teid topless & having sex in the movie, then what else do you want lol
That’s my entire point. What you did was not a spoiler, movie too old. Man had 25 years to watch the movie and didn’t. I’ll fight him IRL.
Would y'all show your kids the 1991 Addams Family movie?
I think so? Based on what I remember… I must bashfully admit that it has been some years since I’ve seen anything related to the Addams Family franchise…. 😬

You're completely right, but hopefully common sense will prevail once again in Hollywood. Maybe you haven't noticed, but almost all the movies that were made in the last 5 yrs (maybe more) were essentially woke. I liked it when Netflix brought back all the characters. And seeing this kind of movie (more normal than usual) is a great reprieve and I hope, that this is the beginning of something that's a lot better and zero woke down the track. Today, I would never have thought that we would be in awe of the 1980s, but here we are.
A lot of the stuff other people complain about when a movie is "woke" bothers me too, but there are so many other people on RUclips that focus on the woke aspects of content that I feel like the "woke-critical" content is a pretty well-trodden niche. So I just focus on being a little more ridiculous with my reviews, lol. It seems like overall the past 5 years haven't been great for Hollywood studio stuff, Disney has eaten a big bag of dicks on several of their releases. None of these companies can afford to throw away money on projects like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Disappointment forever. Eventually they close up shop or resume making movies that sell tickets. I love the older films of the 80s and 90s, and I love the 30s and 40s classic Hollywood stuff too. I've been having a ton of fun the past few years going back and watching stuff from the 80s that I either missed at the time (I was very young in the 80s) or that I haven't seen for decades. Most movies of the past 5 years can suck it!
I'd rather watch Beverly Hills Cop 3 over Axel F. I barely laughed in axel f
Spicy take, but I respect it!
Thanks a bunch for making my mind up 4 me. I was still hopeful but this review has done it for me. The cop 1 is still king.
Obviously shitting on movies is kinda my schtick - this one was not as good as the OG, but was better than part 3
I lasted 20 mins . 15 more than usual
I've never lasted 20 minutes (ask my wife) hehehehehe
Love Eddie Murphy but damn this sucked
I also love Eddie Murphy, I'm excited for Shrek 5 lol
Intrepidos Punks is a cult classic here in Mx, and it's never been restored here so whatever this release has to offer is good enough.
Oh shit, I bet it is! How'd I do with my pronunciation of "Intrepidos"?? Hope I did not butcher it lol (I don't speak 8 languages, I don't even does English rite).
