The grape leaf rice rolls had fennel seed in them, not a fan of those lol The grass jelly was alright but needs sweetened, not much flavor in it.

Herbs and spices with a licorice flavor include, tarragon, basil, anise seed, and star anise. Possibly fennel seed if youre talking about it being on a pizza. Stuffed grape leaves, or greek dolmas, can be made many different ways. But I tend to make them in the late spring when the grapevines I've spotted out in alley ways and climbing over fences, are fresh and tender. I used to make them with rice and ground lamb, but found that just rice and lots of fresh spring herbs are just as good without the meat. So, rice, onions, parsley, mint and dill with some toasted pinenuts, stuffed into those tender young (blanched) leaves and simmered in salted water with fresh lemon juice and lots of extra virgin olive oil. Chill those suckers overnight and eat them with fresh pita from the Persian grocery and salty Israeli feta, yum!

​@@della111Yeah, it's a very strong flavor. It's used in Italian sausage in the US, so that's why it was on your pizza. Oddly enough, they don't use it in sausage in Italy, it's an American thing. Most frozen pizzas won't have fennel in the sausage precisely because it's too strong a flavor for many. I've never heard of it being used in stuffed grape leaves. Some Mid. East cuisines use spices like cinnamon, allspice or various combos like Arabic "ras al hanout", but fennel? Weird.
