Ignorant Astra van driver WF06 PZX barges in M2 southbound
This ignorant Vauxhall Astra van driver WF06 PZX barged in and nearly hit my car today on the M2. I've decided that rather than let idiots like this wind me up, I'll just publish the footage to show what prats they are. Much more satisfying!

This takes me back, I built a 4600 back in 74/75 from Maplin parts, the sounds you could get out of it were like nothing else at the time, still prefer that analog sound.
This is the kind of synth that Behringer should be making a ‘tribute’ to, rather than an MS-20 or a Moog-alike. Something rare and a bit different.
Wow!! I just saw a video on the Maplin 5600 now here you are with a 4600. What a unbelievable piece of Machinery. Such a huge warm sounding synthesizer. Thanks again for the introduction. Where do you find them?
Last thing I would expect was Pitbull cover popping up at the end xD
one in bits on its way to scotland . . . .
Built the 3700 variant (the patch panel was WAY too expensive for me). Just sourcing the 4066 cmos gates were virtually impossible in NZ at the time. The sound was Ok, but I wish the keyboard trigger in the original circuit had 'trigger next' rather than 'hold current'. you had to release the key before the next press could trigger. Went all out and bought a Yamaha DX7 in 1983. Out of the frying pan, and into the fire!
Pretty amazing synth for a kit. Probably more versatile than a Moog Mini really. I was looking at one on Ebay today which is an unfinished project and seriously considering after watching this video. Cheers :)
What a great machine. I remember the articles in ETI. Always wanted to build one (or that 5600 variant by Maplin). It was the first time I saw 4000-series CMOS logic gates used in their linear region like FET amps. For that reason, you couldn't just buy off-the-shelf types because most of them had different analogue characteristics - most notably, an output buffer stage. Specifically, if you couldn't source the brand specified, you had to at least use ones with (from memory) the 'UBE' suffix meaning "unbuffered".

You sunk my battleship
amazing synthesizer
Would be nice to hear it...
Barges in at walking pace!
cant be that ignorant seeing as hes realized the road narrowing to one lane
I remember winding the coils for the equalizer was great fun. And I loved messing about with the big spring reverb unit, bashing it, and stuff! Excellent.
The front metalwork is beautifully clean. My 4600 languishes on the top of a cupboard, what I built works, but I never completed the project :-( I butchered my mothers old electronic organ which was on the way out and retrieved the keyboard contacts and used them in my 4600 as they were much better quality.
lovely stuff, almost built one of these myself as a youngster, very much wish I had done.
Hi Jonasynthesis. Thanks for the comment. No, it hasn't been restored, it was in mint condition! I built it back in the 70s and its been lovingly looked after ever since. It's probably the best example of its type. I sold it last year so another lucky guy has it now.
How much did you sell it for... If you don't mind me asking... I have a 5600s and I am wondering what I might be able to get for it.
Excellent demo. Has your 4600 been restored? It looks mint!
just cool... tweaking and peaking with those synths ;-)
