How To Make a Realistic Cable Carrier Chain in Solidworks | Solidworks Tips & Tricks
Have you ever had the need or desire for a proper cable carrier chain movement in Solidworks? that is to say, that the chain links fold and unfold according to the movement of whatever they're mounted in. In this video I'll show you how to do this using the elusive chain component pattern feature so you can show off your skills as a CAD designer.

Solidworks Performance Tips: STOP Using Realistic Threads! Use Cosmetic Threads Instead!
Просмотров 658Год назад
Using the thread function is pretty, but Solidworks really struggles when it comes to helicoidal shapes. If you really need to save some time and file size and a realistic thread is not critical, then it's best to use a cosmetic thread! This will help your file become lighter and faster to load, what's to hate about it? 📑 Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:40 Thread vs Cosmetic Thread 1:45 Add a Cosmetic T...

    In the first few seconds of the video, how are you using Insert Component and adding the same part multiple times? Are you holding Ctrl, Shift, or Alt? I try Insert Component but when I click the part to insert you function goes away and I have to click Insert Component again.

    • @solidsensei
      @solidsensei 2 месяца назад

      The same window on the left with the options for inserting components has a toggle button on the top right corner in the shape of a... Needle with a handle? Sorry for not knowing the translation, but that button turns blue when clicked on it and then the window stays on until you click the button again.

    First of all, thanks for the great video! It's a great explanation, I was wondering if you could walk me through a similar set up. Specifically if you were to pause the video at 4:02, if there was a gear placed on the curved section, and you have the same layout, how would you make both ends of the chain act according to the rotation of the gear? (if there were locked along the path in the sketch you have drawn). I am having trouble doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

      Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it. I assume you have a mechanism similar to a rack and pinion then, probably a bike! I've never tried something similar, but there is an advanced mate called "rack and pinion" or something similar that does that job, although I don't think you need to use my chain method for it to work. Who knows, maybe both methods are compatible!

    Great way to save time. Another way is to use the solidworks feature "copy mates." You will still need to mate at least one component; however when using the feature solidworks will remember the mate features and allow you to paste as many components as needed.

    I have a D-Shaped hole feature that I pull in from my parts library. There is an LED module that sits inside the D-Shaped hole, and I would like to use smart mates in an assembly. Is it possible to add smart mates to a Library Feature part?

    • @solidsensei
      @solidsensei Год назад

      I haven't tried it, but I don't think so. After all, your library feature will be used in a lot of different parts, not necessarily with the same references always. I think it would be best for you to create a part with multiple configurations and then add the mate references to the part itself

      Well, I don't see why this same method wouldn't work. This should work for profiles extruded from a sketch, imported bodies or extrusions made from the weldments module. Let me know if it doesn't!
