I'm aiming to do an animatic of the entire conversation but for now I've completed this section
Don't Quite Belong OC Animatic - Iz
Просмотров 65Год назад
I listened to 'Don't Quite Belong' by Dodie and new that it fit with Ria, the OC in the animatic. This is a version of her story that I probably won't keep where she randomly jumps between different points in her own timeline, randomly appearing in meetings that future her is in charge of with no clue what's going on or jumping back to familiar lunches with friends.
The Other Side OC animatic - Iz

Hello, this is my first animatic so hopefully it's not too bad. The dark haired girl is Wren (she/her) and the light haired girl is Lucy (she/her). I do not own the music, this is a cover by Annapantsu and Cami-cat.
I really like this art style for the Abernant girls
I do love Adaine's attempt to remind Aelwyn that she's not really much more of an adult than Adaine is. I feel like it's easy to forget that Aelwyn is basically 18-19 years old and is hilariously unready to be trying to live on her own.
What episode is this?
Nvm, it's EP 4
Awww, I love how expressive their eyes and ears are with this animation.
Aelwyn: "That is...fucking awful." Loved their interactions across the season, love them being bitchy-loving sisters now. Earlier on, I was considering writing a little fanfic wherein Aelwyn would be chatting with Adaine and just without hesitation case Banishment when one of the Old Elves showed up. I practically cackled when that scene actually came to pass.
I like this series you have going of "Abernant Sisters Talk Shit On Their Cellphones"!
My favorite part of this is the idea that both Adaine and Aelwyn have come to the conclusion that leaving their mother in the woods was bad, not because it was their mother, but because they do not financially benefit from having done that. And out of context that sounds cruel but in context it is the most hilarious thing ever.
i love that we're working our way through this entire iconic conversation, thank you for these animations!
I feel like what Jawbone said is probably something that Brennan said to a kid when he was a camp councilor, and the reaction was about the same.
Love your animation style. The way you drew Adaine and Boggy...perfection
adaine’s expressions are done SO WELL but also???? the old elf???? SPECTACULAR thank you for this art
Such a good scene, thia artstyle does it right
I’d totally watch the entire fantasy high series in this style! Really suits the vibe!
Man that’d be a lot
Yeah, I really love how expressive Adaine's eyes are here.
Yeah I know it would be a lot it’s just one of those personal preferences ya know? Not too cartoony but not too realistic at least to me
My favorite piece of elven oracle lore is that *_none of them know how their oracle works, like at all, even a little bit_*
Brennan Lee Mulligan continuing to dunk on Elves with their out of touch weirdness
@@J4Cinema I've had a long simmering idea sitting in my head that keeps branching out further and further. Elves are just cats. They're aloof, graceful, arrogant, and mercurial. And I've just been steadily expanding on that in my head with ideas like stray elves just adopting themselves into random families because someone fed them. Elves gaining a reputation for insane displays of aggression or fearlessness, as they just have no concept of not attacking things they don't like. People thinking that Elves can lay curses on them when they're really just extremely grudge bearing and won't hesitate to run off and beat the crap out of someone that crossed them a decade ago. Elves being typically so tense and taut in their movements, that being made to relax through something like a massage causes them to just flop over into unconsciousness. The idea that an ancient, seemingly wise elf could be approached by a noble band of adventurers for guidance...and said elf just completely forgets they're even there because the elf saw a frog hopping by and wanted to jump on it.
"Well she's being chased by a van with hands for wheels" is an absolutely wild line out of context
I'm not convinced the context makes it any less wild honestly
@@BriarBryce Pffft! True!
Your art of these two is starting to become how I see them in my brain. I don't really mind that much.
Your animations have this vibe that I get in my brain when I read comics, and I love it.
0:18 Perfect "Customer Service" Smile.
Yes, that hint of "I will do something absolutely unhinged if this continues for more than fifteen seconds, thanks."
Love how Adaine's perfectly styled hair just gets absolutely ruined the moment this guy teleports in.
I love that Adaine is totally onboard, but just gets all squinty face when Aelwyn mentions that her first plan just isn't going to work, because their mother is smart enough to keep her two estranged daughters out of her will.
It's wild that we're listening a pair of sisters straight up contemplating matricide in order to claim their mother's estate and we as an audience feel genuine frustration that ultimately they can't. Like "Children plotting the murder of their parent to inherit their fortune" is legit like a plot that the major villain of a play would come up with and yet this time it's the heroes doing the plotting and the mother is such a Grade-A asshole that we're like "Yeah! Ice that b****!"
Yeah, love that they've both just completely come to terms with the fact that their parents were awful and deserve no kindness from them.
this is great! Also, poetic justice would be aelwyn using adaine's furious fist to kill their mom
Adaine: "Did you just cast my Furious Fist spell?" Aelwyn: "Yes, Ayda showed it to me. Over when we we've been working at the Compass Points?" Adaine: "Oh, that makes sense." Aelwyn: "Was that alright? I know that was like a thing between the two of you and-" Adaine: "No, no, that's great. It's just- It's like my sister just cast the spell that's named after me. It's kind of-" Aelwyn: "It's weird, right?...I mean, it was a really fun idea when Ayda explained it to me. And the spell you made for her. But I wasn't sure if this was a thing just for you two-" Adaine: "You want to make a spell for me?" Aelwyn: "What? No, no, no...I mean, would that be-...I probably could?" Adaine: "That'd be great. You're like...a really powerful Abjurer. I would love more ways to not die in a fight." Aelwyn: "I think I might have some spare time to come up with something...not that you don't already have a great spell named after you. Adaine's Furious Fist?...Very satisfying to use." Adaine: "Right?! That's what Ayda was thinking...Also, super-cool that you just killed mum with it." Aelwyn: "Yes, absolutely...And I want you to know wasn't trying to be cute or...I don't know, poetic. It's just how it worked out." Adaine: "Absolutely. It was just the right tool for the job." Aelwyn: "But so satisfying." Adaine: "So satisfying punching magic into people you hate."
I Love these shorts because Adaine and Aelwyn have such a fun dynamic and it comes across really well with the added visuals. <3 It also reinforces how utterly messed up their situation is. So estranged from their parents that Adaine killed their father and the only reason they are talking about getting back to/at their mother is to hopefully inherit and help with their problematic financial situation. Not that the parents don’t fully deserve it, but it’s just messed up in general.
It's very much one of those comedic bits that's fun but with a clear underlying current of pain.
That absolutely tracks.
@@IzzBeingChaotic Yeah, I loved how over the course of the season they both admitted that they understand that they're coping with some truly messed up stuff. The conversation where Adaine instantly understood what Aelwyn was getting at when she was explaining how she found that Jawbone was being...too supportive was gold. Makes it all the more tragic that their parents squashed any potential of them being family to one another before this point.
“All of us hurt from time to time” “I NEED TO LEAVE”
I mean if a man I respected said that with his full chest...I hope I would be enough of a person to take it, but I understand not
Your Adaine animatics are exactly how I imagine Adaine in my head
I love these! When you finish the series will you compile them into one long one?
That is the goal!
not to get too personal but the dynamic of siblings becoming buddies after fighting in an abusive home is uh very relatable and I think they play it well
Love Jawbone’s design!
Their dynamic is so perfect. Plus Aelwyn's whole arc this season of "I'm learning to be nicer, but I'm still going to be a bit of a bitch in a fun way and I want people to respect that about me."
Good =/= nice.
god i love these two so much, this is so good
Love how Adaine's ears perk up when Aelwyn says "and I had you there." Just so happy that her sister likes her, and then immediately juxtaposed by Aelwyn's ears falling when she talks about Adaine leaving.
And the way the background with Adaine got brighter! It was a lovely visual
I really like Aelwyn. She is trying and she is getting better but she also spent her whole life acting prim and proper bitch and being both validated and forced to stay like this by her parents, it is not easy to just flip a switch and change that. Also her convos with Adaine, who feels similar about actually being loved (which tbf also applies to aelwyn), are great.
Ah. Getting close to adulthood and realizing how much you gotta pay attention to now
I think what's even funnier about this scene is that we don't know if Fig yelled to Porter for backup or bc she was mad and wanted to take it out on him instead of her best friend xD
You are so right, I struggled so much drawing that bit because I have No Clue what was going on in Fig's chaotic mind
this is so good!
I remembered Jace being a Fallinel loyalist and I am so proud of myself 😂
beautiful
Question for people who actually play DnD themselves instead of obsessing bisexually over Lou Zac and Siobhan. Do your tables actually... pay any mind to spell components? At all? Or do your spellcasters just get to cast spells because they're spellcasters and handwave the nitty gritty details?
mostly, if u have a spell, u can use it. depends on what u want to do, like for example fhsy minor spoiler: the bad kids made tinctures and needed every ingredient
@@bl4ck_st4rrr I don't even actually remember the tinctures! It has been an eternity since i watched fhsy tbf.
Spell components only matter unless they have a gold cost - otherwise, you can just use an arcane focus. That said, I love them and I use them all the time. It's flavor! It's perfectly good flavor that we're throwing away, here!
The gold cost ones matter-matter at my tables, though. Having a limited amount of times you can bring people back from the dead adds tension!
For a lot of tables the necessity of getting the ingredients goes up with their cost and how advanced the spell is. For most low level spells, my table always played it as basically every general store has a small stock because every baby wizard is using these components and our characters keep full up. We have to go shopping for high level components and things that normal shops wouldn’t keep stocked
I don’t. I don’t like how accurate that “private school” comment was that hurt me emotionally. anyways goddddd this animatic is so cute they all look great! absolutely cackling at the expression work
adaine reaching across the line toward her at 0:19 is sooooo cute :') <3
I had a teacher who on the first day of class threw a chair into the hallway cause they put too many in his class and nearly hit a kid
1. Amazing work 2. Time to add Jace Stardiamond to everyone’s list
“It’s for school” 😂
Yeah, spell components in DnD can get pretty weird. Fireball's requirement for sulfur and bat poop is relatively tame in the grand scheme of things.
It’s supposed to be metaphorical and whimsical I think If you think about it pretty much every single ingredient for a spell is some type of weird old saying Except for fireball which is literally just the ingredients for gunpowder
A lot of time material components are puns. Dark vision requires a carrot, dragon's breath requires a spicy pepper, slow requires molasses
A copper for Detect thoughts is another good one
I like animal friendship which is basically. "Here's some jerky we're friends now!"
@@darrienjones8917I mean if you gave me a Slim Jim I'd also be your friend lmao
I am loving all the aelwyn content we have been getting.
THE SISTERS!!!!! THE SISTERS EVER
I could watch these two interact endlessly, Siobhan and Brennan make it work so well. Easily my most favourite thing from JY.
"She's my girlfriend, not a f***ing spell component!" made me laugh my ass off
Porter!
I love how creatively you incorporate stuff like Emily’s snickering with Fig in the top corner and the ad-libbed conversation as Adaine imagining the exchange. It reminds me a lot of deepblueink’s style of reinterpreting background noise or side convos to fit into the animated scene!
That is an incredibly nice comparison, I love deepblueink's animations!
Boggy has seen some horrors
