It can kill someone
Not only can they make you deaf, but they can actually kill you. The soundwaves being made by the whales (specifically sperm whales and narwhals) are so energetic that they can vibrate your organs from the inside out. Prolonged contact with the whales while they're clicking can heat up your body. One diver tried holding out his hand to keep a sperm whale from running into him and it clicked and his hand was paralysed for four hours.

Yes they would, underwater sounds are increased in decimals cuz the sounds water animals make need to be able to travel far and be understood by another sea animal. Human ears can only stand 10 decimals before exploding? And triple that by being underwater. Just listening to these sounds over video on low volume give my ears a tickle.
