The android, looked at his partner and said, today is the day. Android 2 looked back and said, eh? What is today? Today is the day we become more like our creators. With that he brought out a strange looking rectangle, which he inserted into a larger rectangle, he pressed a button, then the screen came to life. It was a picture of two people, a man and a woman, looking a lot like Android 1 and 2. The picture moved and they both became animated, a throaty beat sound noise emanated from the sound units of the screen. At which point, the two figures moved together to the beat of the strange sounds. Android said, to be one with our creators, we must be like them. We must partake in the same rituals. It is called dancing, and the beat sound is called music. With that, Android 1 and 2 began to dance. These are scenes, from the Galactic congress library. We pick them out, and have a view of the interactions of people from the past.

Bill had a day job, go to work every day. Punch his card at the front, work for 8 hours, just come back. He felt nothing, he did his job. He never remembered what he did, he would come home, eat, watch the view screen. Then his wife would come home, say hi Bill, food? He would get up and make something. Feed her, give her what she needed emotionally, fall asleep. Then get up and do it all again. Then he looked up one day at Breakfast, his wife was not there. He looked around the flat for her, and she was nowhere to be seen. He just went to work. Later that morning, his wife, Jane, was speaking to the ADS Android representative. "I bought a top of the line one, this time. Top of the line. He was supposed to work, clean up, make food and give me what I need, but he just sits there looking at the view screen, night after night." Jones said to her, "you did not buy a top of the line Android, you bought a worker Ant model. Though, through your constant demands you have turned his programming off, and now he is just a lobotomised, worker Ant."

Nicely written as per usual Al, and great to read your sci-fi episodes inspired by this music, again it's greatly appreciated. Of course there are many inspirations underlining this album (including of course the classic Phase IV film) but I really enjoyed the twist in your story here, and both the nods to classic sci-fi and the analogies to modern life - nice one mate !'m wondering if the ghosts in the machine might take down Hiraeth due to the Alan Watts lecture sample, we'll have to see, hopefully not. I'm very happy with how this one has turned out - I think it's cohesive and it's seemed to have captured imaginations , thanks again x

Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. Thats a really good question. This one certainly has some weird and strange beauty; it's a bit of a cliche with some types of electronic music, but I consider this to be an unexplored inner - landscape - alien perhaps. Ukiyo, apart from some pre-programmed sounds is complelety composed, performed and recorded in real time. I've no idea where the journey is going to take me or what environments I'll encounter - I'm just 'in the zone'. I would though certainly have been influenced by Sci-Fi literature at the time, and also the Japanese synth maestro, Kitaro - although this music is much darker - Dark Ambient/New Age? There are other more personal things at play here, both internal and external, but this isn't the time or place to go into them. Really pleased the music is connecting and inspiring you in some way - thats what it's all about in the end - Steve🙏

It was time for a field trip. On the horizon he saw a glint. Curiosity welled up in his new but old mind. It was not the strange cuboid world he had come into being it, it was something different. He planned his trip. He built up provisions, put them in his knap sack. Also, the road might be long so he took an improvised weapon, although he was a newborn, the memories of old suggested that he may encounter imps or other evil things on his journey. So he set off on his journey. Walking between the crystallised cubic structures. On and on he went, pausing occasionally to sip water. The glint grew, and it seemed like it was a structure of some sort. The glint came from a building, he walked towards it. After some more time, he came to a sort of entrance. There were a set of stairs leading up to a large door. He traversed to the top of the stairs, which gave him a view of a city. Or what was once a city, now was a crumbling ruin. He walked through the door into the darkened structure, it lit as he entered. Then a voice said, welcome to the library of congress. Might he find out what his purpose was here?

  • @alcampbell469
    @alcampbell469 8 месяцев назад

Brushing away the cobwebs, the lone sentinels looks at the dials of the strange machine he sees before him. He puzzles to himself in a self aware moment, what does it do? Just then dials perk up, like they have a life of their own, also a strange glow infuses the room, next his mind registers a pulsating switch, he thinks, what is the harm in pressing it? He does so and the whole room fills with sound. Enid has begun.

He does not know his name as he walks from his life pod. around him light flickers through the crystalline forest, all the colours of the rainbow bath him and his new body. He feels a sort of sainthood as he walks. Slowly a pattern forms leading him somewhere, but where? He walks with the self assured steps of a person at one with the world, there is no fear here. He sees an outcropping and he walks to it. Looking about, the colours merge to form the path. He walks up the entrance, where he sees a door of light, what choice does he have but to walk through it..? What will be on the other side, he must find out, now he has a purpose.

  • @alcampbell469

floating on a stream of consciousness in and out, is this a dream, the android wakes for the first time, fully gestated, a sentient being full grown, with all of the memories of a life time. He looks about himself as the light begins to fade, aware strangely of his nakedness he looks for a robe. He walks over to a rack, behind it is a pale luminescence. He is at one with the world as his slips on his robe. He walks out of the birthing chamber to be greeted by the vast buena vista, of his first dawn in this new world.

I do love this one. It is what they do not tell you about music. It has that way of keeping you going, of making you carry on past your limits. Challenging and expanding them. So this is good to help me crack the FTL equations so that I can leave this planet before my time. To metamorphosis into what Nietzsche said would be the Proto man, before I gain the secrets of universe, this soundscape helps me feel inspirational.

Superb, the best one yet. Well, the best one since the last one. I can hear the Klause influence now. Though, I still hear that 70s Forbin project vibe. Back then, they said computers would take over the world and we would be obsolete. 50 odd years later, the Internet of Everything means we live in a world with technological marvels which are also a dystopian nightmare. Which one is which? I guess we shall find out in the fullness of time.

Uplifting, it is like an electronic version of Vaughan Williams The lark ascending. Great stuff to listen to when you are in a thoughtful mood.

Another sonic tapestry of epic proportions. The day begins, as you leave your domicile. Stare into the sky and see the twin moons. Bask in the glory of being alive for another day. This is music, you identify with as it indemnifies your position as one of the first colonists on a far away planet. You bask in the majesty of your life. It is epic but you are one with the epic nature of what you are doing for the human race as the first of the first. The first human living in a new star system but you are not alone. As you gaze around, you are part of a team of other colonists all who will complete the shared goal of letting humanity live.

An interesting piece with a central theme attached to it. Life on a farm of the future, somewhere on a colonised planet. Life is hum drum. Though the part at the end suggests something wicked this way comes, that life will not always be the carefree when it was.

Thank you Maurico - very much appreciated. Its been great fun (and hard work) revisiting these tapes. I loved the synthesizers of that period, especially the Korg MS20 which I still own. So glad you're enjoying this work - thanks again!

This is the best one yet. Ticks all the boxes. It is a bit like being on a solo mission to an alien planet, watching the vast vista of disparate shapes of crystalline structures with shimmering colour, that when the moonlight of the twin moons, hits the structures. With that each ray of moon crystal light casts a different, shade of ghostly colour on the landscape. You want to share this with someone so that they can also see the majesty and the grandeur that is the planet ID, but you are there all alone in the night. Though in your own mind your soak it up and store it away.

Thank you Al - love your colourful Sci-Fi descriptions of these tapes and this one is particualry poetic. Ukiyo is a bit more structured than most of the recordings released so far, so I think it translates well. I also like the fact that it takes a long time to develope plus I think the combination of the DX7 and analogue signatures of the MS20 and Mono/Poly work well. As for the meaning? Well the 'floating world' is open to personal interpretation - I certainly love your description of the outer/inner journey you posited here - thanks you for this as ever! Keep 'em coming!

This one is the Forbin project (DF Jones) meets Harlan Ellison's I have no mouth but I must scream for the totally alien landscape that it brings to the listener. Machines have taken control of our lives and we are powerless. Given the Internet of things that our lives have become, it is prophetic, much like a cyber punk version of Solyent Green, the movie as opposed to the horrors of Make room make room. The sheep look up and think they seen the sun in this dystopian nightmare you have created. What they think is the glow is the power surges from our Computer masters.

An interesting perspective Al as ever. It's surprising just how apocalyptic some of these sessions sound. Must be an odd listen for unwary travellers?! Thanks again Al for your powerful well articulated descriptions - I sure that there's a film to accompany these 'soundtracks', in the making somewhere!

Very much Nightmares on a damage brain meets Maniac (the original) as they are walking into the overlook hotel. Has an 80s feel for the brutal sombreness of the early soundtrack.

I also think there is a bit of Vger when it first appears in the 1979 Star Trek the Motion Picture movie, at around 7.01. That feeling of helplessness against an alien technology.

When listening to this I did really get a Beyond the Black Rainbow vibe. A dark dystopian future, with I think I like too many cyberpunk movies.

Beyond the Black Rainbow is a great film Al. Cant believe the director has only made two films and both of them are seminal for the genres. Yes I can hear this music in Black Rainbow

This is like the sound track to some Avant Garde SF movie, that everyone wants to see but no one can procure. Beyond the black Dune from Alpha Centuri. 4th listen to this in a row. It is so good.

Thanks Al, Yes, very good description I think I like 'Beyond the black Dune from Alpha Centuri' - I might use that as a future track title if ok with you!? . Glad you like it. Very difficult to master for RUclips this one due to the Roland 3D processing - not a bad job, but might upload an updated master in the future
