Bluebonnet Bend Homestead
США
Добавлен 20 фев 2021
We are homesteading on two acres in South Texas. Texas is a unique place to homestead and I want to share with you what we are doing in the garden, in the kitchen, what we are preserving and our animals.
New Babies and Butter
Penelope (one of our family milk cows) had her baby February 1st. With the addition to our homestead, after a lovely winter break from all things and a hiatus from shooting videos I am back with some updates. Garden season is about to kick off and I am back in full swing of cheese making and processing milk.

Air Fried Okra | Using the Garden Harvest
Просмотров 18Год назад
After a few years of growing Okra and giving it away or composting it I decided to finally figure out how we liked to eat it. I originally tried this in the oven on regular bake, then made it at my mom's house using her air frier and decided I needed one too just so I could keep cooking okra this way. Mustang grapes grow wild in the part of Texas where I am and the season is just kicking off. They produce from August to September. I got lucky and found a few spots that were already covered in grapes and I foraged more than enough to make a few batches of jelly, so let me show you how. Here are some resources in addition to this video to help ensure you know what you are picking: txmg.org/som...

I follow the Basic Bread Recipe from Tartine Bread book (listed below). When I started making sourdough in 2018, I followed @JoshuaWeissman sourdough starter tutorial. I have since read a few books and I do things a little different. His channel is a g...

Sorry but the music is extremely distracting!!
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the feedback.
Are you zoned in the city or county? You might want to check your zoning first Sounds good for what you have planned.but to save it all being taken down check your zoning first.
Of course we are. Unrestricted.
I bet that's some good milk.
Awesome! I have 2 gal Ziplock bags from last summer and some from this summer. I'm going to have to make time to get my jelly cooking. Super excited!
Ripping out the spring garden and prepping for fall. The July-August garden in Texas can be pretty overwhelming. I like to just get a clean slate. Planting:corn, beans, eggplant, summer and winter squash, peppers tomato, cucumber, and okra. Here is a glimpse into homestead dairy operations. Our family milk cow gives enough milk daily to keep our family of six’s dairy needs met. Pop over and watch my video on how we got started with a family milk cow and stay tuned for more to come on making the most of your homestead dairy.
I have been dying to get cows but don’t have land yet. I’d love too see more on the subject! I’ve been thinking of dexters myself, but hadn’t considered a cross. I’ll definitely be doing more research.
Fantastic, thank you for your feedback. I will definately share more on the subject then. What are some questions you might have that I could address?
@@bluebonnetbendhomestead where do I start !? Lol I’m super curious how you manage keeping milk coming in. Are you using both cows and alternately breeding? How many months do you milk before breeding again? Do you have months where you don’t milk at all? So many questions lol, I’m from Oklahoma and appreciate the struggles you have in Texas with your Homestead. This weather has been unbelievable and the grass/weeds are out of control! Lol.
@@Gipsiwriter FANTASTIC questions! I will make a follow up video, maybe next month or maybe when I do the next big thing with my cows, calving or breeding!
@@bluebonnetbendhomestead thank you so much!
🙌 Hi, just discovered your YT channel 😊 I have to follow you, like I do with the YTs of two other Sourdough Queens. So, with this backup I feel able to welcome our own sourdough creature in our home. 👑👑👑 I love the fact that you give mesurements in gram👍. Thank you for your YT. Greetings from the North Sea.👋
Thanks for stopping by and watching!
Enjoyed the variety and the journey😊Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching and commenting 😘😘
Beautiful bread!
Thank you!
Planning to start making sourdough. Glad I found your videos, love how you don’t make it seem stressful as some others do! 😆
It doesn’t have to be stressful! I hope you will. Watch a lot of different people to see what they have to say then find what works for you!
Where did you get the elastic bowl cover?
www.amazon.com/dp/B09D9F1Q8M?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_G56NCH6XPMMM0PYEG6QA
Amazon, they come in a lot of different colors and the inside is some kind of water resistant fabric. Food doesn't stick to it and they are easy to wash. I don't put them in the washing machine so I don't know how they stand up to that I just wash them by hand.
love this video! :)
Thank you!
👍👍👍
Nice job bread looks like perfect rise !
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Head over to my channel and watch my no fuss sourdough schedule and how I make pizza and a loaf of bread every week without feeding my starter every night.
