Abandoned Doesn't Mean Ruined
Добавлен 25 ноя 2014
Welcome to my page of documented adventures! You will find my own explorations showing the hidden beauty of abandoned structures and houses. I have always found these places to be fascinating and have begun to try to unearth the history behind these places. Join me as I explore places many wouldn't dare to enter and see the abandoned world through my eyes. Always remember that just because it's "abandoned," doesn't mean it's "ruined."
Exploration of an Abandoned Mansion and Retreat in Michigan Rumored to Have Been Owned by AL CAPONE!
Happy October and Spooky Halloween Month! This is an exploration of an abandoned masion, poolhouse, and one room schoolhouse in the rural countryside of Southwest Michigan. The documented history behind the property is that it was owned by a black Chicago businessman at one point whose love for horse racing attracted people from all walks of live to this area. Although there is no documentation I could find that links Capone to the property, locals have stated for the last century that this was one of his hideaway locations and was even a brothel at one point. Whether or not that is true, I'm not sure, but the actual history I COULD find was quite wholesome and awesome in a different way!...

Exploration of a Real HAUNTED Abandoned House in Southwest, Michigan! Happy October / Halloween!

Happy Spooktober to you all! On the beginning of my favorite month of the year, I got the permission and opportunity to explore a real life abandoned haunted house...AT NIGHT! I find myself to be a skeptic with these sorts of things, generally. However, as I explain in the video, there was something about this particular house that made me think otherwise. Enjoy my own exploration of a haunted ...

This is my exploration of an abandoned railroad car in South Central Michigan! No location information will be given out. Be advised that due to horrible language in graffiti, the video had been trimmed down significantly. I apologize if I missed anything that offends anyone. I've watch and edited this a lot, so I don't think there's anything left.
Exploration of an Old Schoolhouse in Rural Southwest MI!

This is my exploration of a vacant old one-room schoolhouse in rural southwest MI! A big thank you to the groundskeeper, who shall remain nameless, in not just taking the time to show me around the property, but also to give me a lot of history and backstory to his own involvement with the upkeep and renovations. It's because of people like him that these places can still exist.

Exploration of Collapsed Abandoned House at Wolf Lake, MI

This is an abandoned house that collapsed next to Wolf Lake, MI near Mattawan. I'm not sure what the noise near the end is, but it sounded like a woman screaming. There was no one around and even after driving around, I saw no one in the area, so I'm not sure exactly what that noise was. If you have any idea, leave that down in the comments below!

This is my urbex of the abandoned Plainwell Paper Factory in Plainwell, MI. As of right now, I am working to schedule a time to see the interior of the building, so there will be a Part 2 soon! In the latter part of the video, I work my way over to the abandoned Crown Vintage Paper Mill in Parchment, MI. I run into some road blocks, so it takes more time than I had, so that will need to be anot...

Hitman Piano!
And in surprisingly great shape!
Have you ever explored a house that was haunted?
Absolutely! In fact, visit my channel and it's the video before this one that I posted only a couple of weeks ago. Great question! ruclips.net/video/0JCIn6mk-1M/видео.html
8:25, if it is Capone's place then that maybe for his guards.
Interesting point! I supposed that's absolutely possible. Good thought!
I have a ton of ghost equipment and would love to explore with permission
Fortunately, the owner is a cool person and easy to get along with. Unfortunately, I promised him I wouldn't give out location information. 😞
You are endangering yourself by exploring alone. You should always take a companion with you in case of a fall or a roof cave in. In regards to the nature of the building, I would suggest you consult the local area library. Most all libraries contain history departments which may provide the information you need.
Thank you for your concern! 🙂 I understand the danger of exploring alone. As such, I do know the risks. I view it like hiking, which can also be very dangerous to do alone. Sometimes I bring someone, and in fact, I will be bringing someone along on my next video, but a lot of what I do is spur the moment and I don't have the time to coordinate a different schedule into the mix. As far as the history, many of the commenters have pointed out it was a cement factory at one point. Super cool, and I'm appreciative to everyone who was able to shed more light on the history for me! 🙂
I won't reveal the location, but I drive by this just about daily and I've always wondered what it looks like on the inside! Thank you so much for featuring this building and the property!
You're very welcome! And thank you for not giving away the location. I want to help the owners showcase the beauty of these places without inviting vandals. 😊
There’s a sign by the house that tells you it’s a concrete plant. It’s called Burt Portland cement.
Nice! I've had some people point that out to me since this video. I'll have to do a little more research before visiting these places in the future. 😊
But what is 40:42 FOR? What IS IT? Looks roman or Greek and Phoenician or Egyptian!
@@NautMyNameAgain It appears to be a monument built to honor those who worked there. I'm honestly not sure, but it's very unusual!
Hey I'm from Southwest Michigan, you were in my neck of the woods!

I'm from the genx area and have experienced spirits in the past. They are real folks. I wish people would quit calling them ghost. They are spirits caught in this world because of certain happenings in their lives.
Definitely an interesting point of view. I will try to adjust how I refer to them in future videos. I apologize if I was offensive in using the term "ghosts."
It is amazing how people put grain everywhere. Kind of nasty...I couldn't even call it art. 😆. I love in Mid Michigan. I am sure I've been in that area at some point. Thanks for the video. Hope there were not too many ticks! 🙂
I completely agree. I wish people wouldn't graffiti places like this, but they do. I actually escaped with no ticks! Thanks for asking and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tour.😊
My pleasure 😊
My grandmother taught in a one room school house😊 in Fremont Mi now stands the gerber baby food FACTORY
So cool, and yet, so sad that it's gone. 😞
This was way cool I need to put this on my places to explore. I have friends that live that way. I’ll have to tell them about this.
Absolutely! Virgil, the owner, loves the history behind it and was excited to not only talk about it, but also allow anyone who is interested to come view the property.
You definitely went it the wrong way. You can park right by the place.
There's another parking lot?
@@abandoneddoesntmeanruined there is a dirt driveway that goes right back to the place. At the beginning of it there is a burnt down house.
So I saw that, but it wasn't labeled as a useable road, so I chose not to.
@@abandoneddoesntmeanruined I parked my motorcycle on the path and walked right in.
This may be the school house that my mother taught in. I'm from SW Michigan.
Maybe! Unfortunately, I am not willing to give the exact location out to protect the property, but I suppose that's possible!
You ever wonder where the dogman sleeps at night?
Now I think we know! 🤣
Check for ticks when you get home, the government loaded them up with LYME disease and dropped them be jets on the population in the 70’s to see what would happen, I have 2 friends that got bite and eventually died from it
I'm always checking for ticks. Lyme's disease is a very real thing. 😊
Maybe you should have bought a stralng weed eater......

@@abandoneddoesntmeanruined I will do that I’ve got some cool places with some interesting history
Those tracks were abandoned in the mid 80s with most of the tracks being pulled up by then from around Grand Rapids to Jackson. The tracks you see were used till the early 90s for the grain elevator. But then they completely abandoned it. In Charlotte, off of Lansing road behind the hosptial, you can see a Dinner train. Not sure if these are the cars that were at the place you were visiting, but there also used to be an old locomotive there. It's been gone for years.
Whoa! That would have been amazing to see. I'm not surprised it's no longer there, though.
@@abandoneddoesntmeanruined been by that spot many many times.
Fun fact Jeffrey Nothings music video "The Outage" was filmed at the Ruins in Bellevue.
Whoa! I'm going to go look that up now!
@@abandoneddoesntmeanruined Ohh it was, I brought him there to shoot the music video.
So cool. I just looked it up. It was quite the... interesting...music video. 🤣
Glad you got out when you heard the sounds- better safer than sorry
I couldn't agree more. 😊
As a amateur photographer I visited Keene Nature area several times some 35 years or so ago. The last time I was there the boardwalk had been destroyed probably by a group of kids. Most of the handrails had been broken and some of the sections of boardwalk knocked in the water. It sure is great to see that it had been rebuilt. Once I took my daughter there she was about 5-6 (40 yrs now) and was going to show her how to catch a fish without bringing any fishing stuff at all. Looked around and found a ball of discarded line. There was a bench and I found a hook some one cut off some more line then tied it to 6' of line I unwound from the ball of line. I got a 5-6 foot stick and tied the line to it. Then we turned over some rocks and found a couple worms. Then we managed to catch a small bluegill then let it go. I was so disappointed that it was tote up that I never went back. Enjoyed your video - one thing i might mention slow pans you camera was all over the place at times.
A very good point. I'm literally just holding my cell phone with the steady cam feature, so I apologize for that. I will try to improve my videography in future videos. 🙂
Thank you for the videos. Decades ago I photographed many small train stations around Michigan. Most are gone along with the railroads. Unfortunately due to a spinal injury I can’t explore anymore. So your video allows me to go with you.🎉
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!!
I have been to those ruins a lot growing up. However, I have to tell you that the ruins are not part of the park. It is actually private property. The first driveway past where you parked is the actual entrance. I still go back sometimes just cuz it's fun. But no it is not public.
I appreciate the heads up! However, I researched numerous trail maps and boundaries and everything I found implies they are now part of the preserve. I'd be curious to know if you have any official sources that state otherwise. I'd love to discuss this further if you contact my Instagram page by the same name. My goal is to never trespass, so I would like to know if that truly was the case so I do not return and do it again.
I know what you think the maps say, but we used to party back there in High School and the cops would run us off all the time because it is private property. On a side note, the park is closed because local trash in this town destroyed the board walk. If you get daring climb to the top of the building and sit in the old window frame. That’s what we used to do.
They were actually known as the black jews. That's what they called themselves. Their profits last name was King. You should have felt the evil. The stockade was no longer there. Removed as evidence. It was very disgusting and awful things that happened there. You can probably find some of it in the Kalamazoo Gazette. Some was too bad to even put in the paper.
Wow! That's both sad and crazy! Thank you for the information!
From the noise this is near the Gun Club?
I'm not sure if it's near the club, but it's on public game lands and it was during hunting season, so I needed to be super careful. 😊
My mother said that They did have a couple of escapees into the woods....They came back to the camp because the mosquitos and black flies were so bad they couldn't take them....LOL
@@brokeinmichiganl3921 I mean, that makes total sense. From what I read, most of the POWs actually enjoyed their time so much that they chose to stay and become American citizens. Pretty crazy! 🤣
Too bad people deface everything, too bad ya didn't bring bag so could help with litter issue
I have not visited any of these sites before visiting in these videos. Sadly, there's no way I can know the state of the condition beforehand. I agree that it's horrible that people treat these sites this way.

Nice one of our old Parlor Cars from the LIRR I know those seat colors I used to ride a train made of one parlor the rest were regular ping pong coaches, the parlor cars always had the red carpet on the sides anyway that was sometime in the 1990's
Very cool! That's neat information. Thanks for that!
Not a parlor car. Car number is 2957 and was a generator-equipped locomotive hauled coach. Under car generator provided power for each individual car. The parlor cars were numbered in the 2000's. All of the coaches when rebuilt had the red carpeting on the walls.
@@RailfanJourneys Ok so it was a regular Ping pong my mistake it is kind of hard to tell with all that graffiti and shrubbery
@@williamcawley1113 The "ping pong" cars were an even earlier generation of coaches. Those were built in the 1920's and were retired by the early 1970's. These coaches were built in the mid 50's, rebuilt into "electric heat" cars in the late 1970's and retired 1999-2000.
If you go into Charlotte on Cochran across from the Mexican restaurant you can see the postal car that was with it until recently bought by the Coopersville Marne railway
So cool! Thanks for letting me know!
Should have been pulled into Charlotte at the same time as the RPO car.
Rumor has it that it’s getting scrapped on site
That's the rumor. Scrapping in the middle of that jungle will be a huge job. It would be easier in town at the site where the 44 toner was loaded onto the low-boy.
Gives me Boxcar children vibes. One of my favorite book series as a kid
Haha! I can see that. 🤣
P72 series ex-Long Island Railroad coach. Built by Pullman in the mid 50's.

Was it made in their Chicago plant or the one in Michigan City?
@@jamesmitchell1780 I'm not sure. Does anyone else know?

I can answer that, but the answer is no, but like he said you can look it up online
The Eaton County property owner and tax map (online) gives the ownership info
Thank you!
Former LIRR car. Built in the 50s or 60s.
Thanks for that info!
Cool channel How old is the car? Was this built for Amtrak or merged into Amtrak? How do you know there were other cars? When were the other cars moved (when was the last time they were known to be there)
If I'm honest, I don't know the answer to any of these questions. I'm sorry! The contacts I spoke with only knew that there were originally three cars and two were taken away recently. I apologize I don't have more information than that.
Built in 1955-56 for Long Island Rail Road. Retired in late 1990's. Car never operated on Amtrak.
You have to wonder how many pairs of mary janes and saddle shoes have crossed the main threshold over the years...
@@annietemple6131 Very true. I would imagine a lot! I wish I could have seen what it used to look like. 😊
I have seen people make some cool looking homes out of those rail cars…..nothing will ever be done with that car but to just sit there and rot away sadly
I agree. I'd love to see someone purchase it, fix it up, and use it for something more than it just sitting and falling into decay.
Just a little further east are more ruins
So I hear! I'm sad I missed them! I hear that if I were to go back and follow the railroad tracks, there would be more. It sounds like I need to make a "Part 2" to this video. ☺️
