Hi. I cannot see all the threads from the old forum in the new Discuss tab on the web version. Is the conversion process still going on? Secondly, as a general first hand feedback, the formatting options and and the "quote" option were clearer and more user friendly in the old forum. Please see if it's possible to incorporate them as it is in the new format.

Our responses should be sufficienty dispersed over the entire exam question set, like the paths over a representative scenario set of a monte carlo diffusion series.. complete but not overly precise...we only need to pass on average.

ALT + numpad7 = bullet in excel. There are memorizable shortcuts for formulas in word... but totally not worth the time. ALT+JEQ

My method is to Create name range of each input with some accronym that's clear enough; Then create the formula within the cell and then copy it out as text without the equal sign and paste it into the cell next to it.

The SOA has released an updated video covering the Prometric setup: ruclips.net/video/TBATFFsHa7E/видео.html The key change for spring is that there is now an additional 5-min session at the end for submitting the Word and Excel file. This is in addition to the total time allowed for fall (e.g. in addition to the 5 hr, 15 min for taking the "5 hour" exams).

We surveyed our ERM and QFI customers who took the first round of SOA CBT written exams yesterday, and here's what we learned: theinfiniteactuary.com/blogs/exam_ila_dp/?p=1028

To my understanding, one of SOA’s announcement states that for QFI Quantitative Finance, “... candidate will submit hand-written answers to select questions in a paper answer booklet to be collected by prometric ...” Actually I am going for ERM track so don’t wanna overinterpret that, it is just for the information for those taking that exam. Eddie, please supplement / correct me if I was wrong.

Someone also asked me about use of an SOA-approved calculator. These will still be allowed, and it's my understanding that you will also have scratch paper to use. However, nothing you put on scratch paper will be turned into the SOA, so be sure to type everything into Word or Excel that is part of your answer. Honestly, I would get used to doing 100% of your calculation work in Excel. I think it's safer to ensure that any extra work you do gets saved into the Excel file. Graders will never see anything you do on scratch paper or handheld calculator.

Someone asked me about the Word file for the SOA LFM CBT sample question shown around time mark 11:45. The SOA did not actually provide any samples in Word format on the exam pages (only PDF and Excel). I converted the PDF to Word just for purposes of the video to show how the answer box would most likely work in the Word file that will be provided in the Prometric setup. We are adding a growing number of Word- and Excel-based practice questions in our courses, however, so to give you practice. -Eddie

The Prof mentioned in the video is from India's from Civil Engineering Deptt.of IIT, Kanpur, Dr. Rajesh Maity. He delivered a program on copulas under NPTEL initiative of Govt of India. He has explained the concepts of copulas very nicely.

I love TIA. I used TIA for all the prelims with great success. I plan on sitting for my first FSA exam this fall and I will count on TIA again as my primary resource. Very helpful video btw.
