This represents approximately 33.64% of the population and is growing every day. Ungratefulness despite the big burden (these stats do not correspond to a racist country at all) Facts: 1,046,982 Diagnostics where registered in Q1 2023 of undocumented Haitian nationals in the Dominican Republic’s Health Care. Please note: for Dominican nationals it is required to have a local health insurance card and a current valid id. There Is No such thing as "Dominican of Haitian Descent": According to the laws of both countries, a person is either Dominican or Haitian. This term, often used by the media and NGOs, typically refers to individuals born on Dominican soil to undocumented parents. In simple terms, they are already Haitian Nationals by parentage. 4. Regular Migration in the Dominican Republic Has Always Been Legal: Migrants are required to have basic documentation from their country of origin and submit an application-standard procedure in any country. Like all migrants, Haitians need an ID and passport. 5. Crossing a Sovereign Border without Registration Is Illegal: This is considered an illegal act. All countries have laws designed to prevent and deter illegal migration. 6. Living or Overstaying in a Country without Proper Authorization Is Illegal: This is also an illegal act. All countries have laws designed to prevent and deter illegal migration. 7. Illegal Migration Is Not a Human Right: All countries have laws designed to prevent and deter illegal migration. 8. This significant mixed-race population illustrates the multicultural nature of Dominican society and serves as a counterpoint to allegations of pervasive racism within the country. 12. Haitian Violence Is Concentrated in Port-au-Prince: The gangs and overall violence in Haiti are largely confined to the capital, Port-au-Prince. The rest of Haiti could potentially serve as a location for refugee camps, making it unnecessary to bend Dominican migration laws to establish camps on Dominican soil. Additionally, the average length of time that refugees spend in camps is approximately 17 years. Most of them remain forever. 13. Open Borders Are Not a Human Right: The idea of open borders is often misinterpreted as a fundamental human right. However, countries have the sovereign authority to regulate and control their borders to ensure national security, economic stability, and the welfare of their citizens. 14. Dominican Republic's Burden: As of 2024, the Dominican Republic has identified approximately 4 Million undocumented Haitians currently living within its borders, with many more likely unregistered. This influx has placed an enormous strain on the country’s social services. In certain areas, these services are collapsing under the pressure, with health clinics now serving a majority of undocumented Haitians rather than local citizens. The overwhelming demand on these resources is creating significant challenges for the Dominican Republic, exacerbating social tensions and stretching the country's infrastructure to its limits. 15. The Dominican Republic independence was from Haiti not from Spain. After understanding these basic facts, regardless of the questionable extent of gang violence, it becomes evident that the issues of undocumented migration and the porous nature of the Dominican border are significant and pressing concerns. The international community, however, often prioritizes condemning deportations and supporting the normalization of mass displacement and the establishment of refugee camps in host countries. This approach, while aiming to address humanitarian needs, frequently neglects the complex realities faced by the affected nations, including the severe strain on their social services and infrastructure.
