1965 Monaco-Build it, Fix it, Drive it Everywhere!
Добавлен 7 июл 2021
Bought in 2020, no motor, no drive line, wheels all wrong sizes.
Cool things: big block car, factory air conditioning, power windows, crank operated wind wings, tilt wheel, full horn ring, clock, bucket seats, full console, three ash trays, two cigar lighters, AM radio, rear speaker reverb control, biggest fender mounted turn signals I ever seen!
I’ll be bringing it back to life. It is and will be zombie! A boomer owned Zombie! See what it takes to make it go. See what an engrossing project it is. Take incredible drives with the beautiful highway gears it has. Find out what I find out. Did it have a hidden gambler’s stash from Las Vegas in the front wheel well? Was it ever in Palm Beach, Florida? Just watch as I stealth out the particulars. I’m having great fun, and I hope you do too.
Most videos are in chronological order from dragging it to its garage, “the Salon”, to now and continuing. It’s ongoing. I’ll put in a few contemporary videos…..The peg leg just died! 1/8/22….

I rebuild a 1966 hand crank wind wing gear cluster. Partially done in 2020. Now in 2024 after lots of use, it gets refurbished gears by aluminum brazing new gear teeth.
Steven’s Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner
Просмотров 1721 день назад
Just painted and looks good to me. I did about 6 hours of fine metal work on it and left the rest, ‘cause it’s good enough for the amount of driving it gets (a lot). It’s a late 60’s Mopar air cleaner.

Driving a 1965 Big Block Dodge all the way from Reno to Klamath Falls. I found a special 60’s High Performance air cleaner and went to go get it. This is the return trip. It is a continuation of the other video uploaded about 3 months ago. This 60 minute extravaganza of a Big Block odyssey would not save from my editing software. It finally did, so here it is. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

How to maintain a classic car: June 2022
Yes, Steven that’s fantastic.
…… continued explanation: Looked for something thick and transparent and blue (like used in the instrument cluster lighting), found some blue shrink wrap on some marine ring terminals in my electric 14 gauge drawer, cut and and shrunk to some zip lock bag material because these terminals have glue inside and it would melt and stick to the part if not done first, cool and cut into a blue disc to put in between the LED and the output hole, test in car, color is acceptable, dimmer works with this LED, it is bright, it is much cooler than the 1.7 watt original, power consumption is much less too. SUPER SUCCESS, drive the heck out of the car, have fun, enjoy the hell out of the new lite…. It took 4 years to get to this small part. Thanks for your interest. Share the channel. Cheers.
Things I had to work out : A-Z…. Attaching the hole spot chrome piece to the tube (JB weld), polish the inside tube for better lite reflection, test, ground the tube to the “hole spot” the JB weld didn’t make electrical contact (see the solder between the barbs and the tube), test regular bulb… too long and too yellow (other dash lites are LED, find used small LED, mod the LED to an old original incandescent #53x bulb, reshape the old bulb lead tip was smashed flat- used solder gun to melt and reshape, solder tiny parts of LED paying attention to polarity, test, ground fault, fix fault, works awesome, JB weld some of the new bulb to stabilize the tiny wires, refit the lead tip to fit the socket in the car (with small file) assemble and test in the car with the dimmer, (looks way too white) find something blue………. Continued next post…..
I’m up to 100,000 miles now. The year is 2024.
I love it. Great restoration on the air cleaner.
Thank you. It ‘s good enough for a runner which I drive everywhere. Tomorrow 500 miles. Back to Reno!
Is the picture that much of a turn off? I thought the title would interest a few people. :(
Like, subscribe, comment or share. Thanks!
Nobody likes my story.
It got 15.6 miles per gallon.
I also have a 65 Monaco. It came with spare parts so if there's anything you need, let me know. I may have it
Hey, thank you. Do you have the chrome strip behind the drivers’s door? Also the chrome bezel around the right headlights? Thanks!
@@Monaco-BuilditFixitDriveitEver Sorry, I do not have those but did see the bezels on eBay while I was looking for a dual snorkel air cleaner
I have the same exact car. Same color, interior. I bought it 3 years ago from a guy up north. Lets just say his name is " Rip off artist" It is running though. Good luck with yours. BTW mine is named Monaca, the mucked up Monaco. Ill get it straightened out though. Good luck with yours.
Gee ,this is awesome Steven!
I was gonna align it with my $400 kit. Found 1 inch of tow in, which should be about 1/8th to 1/16th ! So I just re-set the tow and I’ll see how it handles and the tires wear. Setting the camber and the caster takes a lot more time.
The edit softwear flipped some clips. But at least it finally uploaded. :)
How much was spent on Gas
It gets between 14 and 12 miles per gallon. I spend lots on gasoline. I budget for that. It burns 87 octane ‘cause it has 8.2 to 1 compression. I get money and I miles of smiles. Cheers
I just had the fusible wire burn inside my regulator. first time that has happened to me. Not sure what caused it.
Hi. I had mine burn through too . If it’s in the system grounding the wrong part will burn it really fast. You can solder a new wire about the same size, or Actually solder in a spade fuse of about 10 or 15 amps. I put one in which was replaceable. I means you can just put in another fuse the next time you burn it out in testing. It.’s hard ti fit it in, but its doable.
@@Monaco-BuilditFixitDriveitEver Yeah I am thinking i accidentally grounded something. I plan to fix it. lucky i had a spare on hand. I may try the spade fuse deal
Hey there , I have a 1965 Monaco (Canadian Version) one of 2068 there abouts if memory is close , of Canadian built Monacos. I bought her a few years back , it was all original right down to the 65 shocks , factory Premium car , BB 383 Hp 727 console car . Taken her apart past few years and been Re n Re everything myself. Owned many Dodge/Plymouths when I was a teenager, then worked for a Dodge dealership after graduating at the beginning of the 80s , bought my first 69 Dodge Charger triple Green 318 console car @15 for $950. and of course Dukes of Hazzard was my favorite show . Found you by suffering here , I subscribed ... wish I could afford a B body again but just to expensive these days ... so C Body it is .. Cheers...
Thanks for the comments. I got my C-body for the same reason. $1,500 instead of 10,500 for a B-body shell. Drive it hard all the time. Just love the Big Block cars!
Is this guy waiting for his male lover ?
Cool. I think I found the correct retainer for the adjustment somewhere on line, but I left the home made one on mine. I had a 70 roadrunner in the 80’s. I kept it for 11 years. Went 30 years without a big block. Now I drive this baby everywhere! Cheers
Some people get it. Some don’t. History and politics, baby!
Update: that tranny was used and after driving it about 45,000 miles it started slipping in 3rd gear at full throttle. I had a 1970 torqueflite used which I put in instead. That started leaking out the front seal really bad so I rebuilt this 1966 tranny in the video. I bought a couple books and the 65 service manual. The ‘66 tranny is still shifting strong 20,000 miles later. I did good! The ‘70 is toast for now it finally overheated the second gear clutches. I never built it, just ran it, so that’s not unexpected. So after 4 years and 75,000 miles the 66 Torqueflite is in the big block Monaco and running strong with this neutral switch you see installed in this video. Cheers!
Two years and 30,000 miles later (May 2024) the motor and park feature are working perfectly l. I drive my big block everywhere! Rain, snow or shine!
Bought near my home town- has a 727 torqueflte on the back. Carb, starter, intake, valve covers…. Find my channel for more old car crap and big block motors.
Nice looking Mopar!
Thanks! Big block heaven!
Nice job I just changed the full set left and right about the same time you were doing yours. 1970 road runner and it too was missing the clip that locks the washer. I decided to use safety wire I’m hoping you provide the correct back lash adjustment. I plan on butting it up tomorrow.
Great! I replied above.
never heard of a monaco, thats a Chrysler? looks solid
Thanks. It’s Dodge’s expensive car. It was competing with the Pontiac Gran Prix. It’s a full sized heavy car. I weighed it. It is 4,400 pounds as I drive it.
My 87 d150 just clicks once when turning the key, hook up remote starter switch to solenoid relay terminal and positive battery terminal with key in on position, push remote switch, fires right up, could be my nss? your exhaust sounds strong and smooth, thanks for video
Thank you. Good luck on your diagnosis.
Damb, I agree with myself !
Tiny bubbles…..nobody watches this video. 😢😅😮
I guess not.
Turns out that the wheel is 5 on 4.75. That means it was wrongly boxed. It will fit a Chevy. I gotta return it. AND…. Just today (3/11/24) I purchased new rear air shocks. The old ones were new 4 years and 60,000 miles ago. They started to fail and I failed to catch that… I drive this car so much it seemed too early. So…. The shocks were almost totally the problem. The 70-80 vibration is gone and the bounce test on the fender is better and the car is more predictable and smoother. Hot Damn!!!
Just found your channel. Very cool car. Look forward to watching more vids.
Cool, thank you. I do all sorts of repairs, all the time.
From big block maniac to major geek, in less than three months.
So I drove out to Fernley where fuel is half a dollar cheeper= more miles of driving. Bought me a really good cigar drove through some near blizzard conditions, and did more stuff.
Id say get in your lane but i think you only one on that road
Yes! You are right. The road also dead ends into a dirt road and goes left.
Firestone is a huge scam. They damaged both of my wheels right down to the metal and didnt say anything. Went back in and had to prove my case. Ended up having to drive an hour north to another location for a manager of some sorts to look at it. They kept insisting their machine cant hurt wheels. Ended up making a claim and with all the back and forth they wanted me to run around and get quotes and in the end they wouldnt match the other two wheels and I ended up just having two badly scratched wheels bc I never got anywhere with them.
Firestone lost my business before I even had a bad experience with them. I've never heard anything good about Firestone EVER!
Wow, that’s fantastic.
Dude, I feel your pain!
Hey, Dummy, it’s “Fitzee’s” Fabrication. He’s a good dude.
Gee Steven, what a great video!
Great story! That's the first time I've heard you talk about road tripping with your brother.
I just see master lock and first thought is "i comb pick will do quick work of that"
Are they that crappy??
Yea youtube channels mcnallyofficial and lockpickinglawyer. They show just how bad even thos disk locks are by masterlock
What's with the TESLA logo 😂
It’s a local business which does special welding and iron work. It does look like the Tesla logo. I didn’t mean that.
Money pit
As someone said, it keeps me out of the bars.
That's what every classic is now. Of course, you'll put more money into them than you would ever get back. But it is fun to fix them no matter what.
Love the old school heavy duty 3 speed autos. The C6, turbo 400 and the 727 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!
Dude f*** yes nice find
Thanks!
I enjoy pulling parts as well
Nice motor! Lol jk
Thanks
With soapy water of course.
Oh! Ya! 440 powered Monaco!
