Great video Marianne! Speaking from my NHS experience of shortlisting thousands of AP applications the thing to remember is that the person who is reading your application is most likely SKIMMING it. So get the basics right: spelling, tailoring the application to the actual job you are applying for and work on that first sentence being something that pops out of the application to stop the skim!

Thank you for this! I wanted to know if there was any scope to still be able to apply to the D.Clin course in the future? I prefer this style of practical learning for sure but my biggest worry is that this career option doesn’t allow further progression once qualified as a CAP. It wouldn’t be the reason I applied but I wouldn’t want to feel stagnant in this role for the rest of my working career.

Looking at the world as an average man, there's just no hope. No future where you can see yourself happy. You either win the genetic lottery or there's no point being born.

Hi! Absolutely helpful video! I once talked with a nice lady in the BPS about the way jobs are advertised. Also I have noticed that the Berkshire trust posts Assistant psychologist roles but some of them are internal only (only for Berkshire NHS employees) which I do not understand why they do it? I’ve just watched this and you have characters assassinated this woman. using words such as a divisive figure no she’s not. using words such as narcissistic once again no she’s not. this woman has been abuse mentally and emotionally driven to suicidal ideations and miscarriage postnatal depression and currently there are people in prison because they were planning to assassinate her on British soil.Disgusting

Some great insights there, thank you. A few years ago my wife and I made a complete turnaround and set up a business, first it was financially tough, but got through, just. Some months were really great but would then be followed by just scraping by, our factory/workshop got bigger as did the bills. The main thing we set it up to fund wasn't happening, i went a chatted to a mate who was the director of a much larger version of what we was doing, he was pretty stressed, turns out the bigger we grew it, all the things we stressed about was the same just with much bigger numbers and more people depending on it's success. We wasn't enjoying it anymore and made the difficult decision to shut down and take the huge a financial hit. Never be afraid to walk away from something that isn't serving you in a positive way. I think if you could get him on Carl beach would be an amazing interview, to talk about spiritual health, mens Ministry and being part of a community that serves others.

Someone saying that they don't see skin color is something to be explored.

Really motivating podcast! I’m 31 and have just decided I really want to be a psychologist after, hopefully, completing a clinical psychology doctorate. I’m currently applying for a masters in an accredited course as a starting point, as my background is in English and then digital marketing!

Respect / appreciation is missing in the UK. Do other countries have lower statistics? I know a chef who went to Germany on a student exchange and he was surprised at the respect shown to him when wearing his chef whites. We don't have respect for people, in general.

Suicidality is what you called it. Why create a new word when suicide is ample to say what you want.

I blame our culture. Environment is to blame for all of it. Read Dr. Gabor Mate's book, 'the myth of normal'. Our culture and society is making us sick.

I have to say that I am not really sure it there is a genuine wish to reduce suicide among men in polite society. Maybe only if it concerns men of high value, such as family men. Unfortunately men are usually only valued if they have raised a family. If you are a loner, no-one really cares!

If people truly want to reduce suicide in men, and not just pose as good doers to win cheap political points, we could stop using hateful rhetoric aimed at men such as "incels". A mans value is not connected to his ability or lack thereof, to get sex with the opposite sex. But even so, it is constantly being used in a stigmatizing and hateful way, much like we used homo or gay back in the 80s or 90s!
