First Bird of 2025! || The quest to find the Long-Eared Owl
Просмотров 27421 день назад
We feel a special privilege to have been able to find this sensitive species and to have now seen both the Long-eared Owl and the Short-eared Owl, both on the first day of the year. How can we top that next year? I can't believe I was able to get so many good shots of these new camera lifers. The highlight for me was finding a Philadelphia Vireo on our property, I've never really gotten good footage of them in the past and this one just sat there for me perching on various branches in front of me! Long time no see! I'm sorry but here is a long-promised South Texas birding video of part of the 3rd day. In this video, we talk about our time at Hugh Ramsey Nature Park, Palo Alto National Battlefield and surrounding areas. South Tx is amazing with all of its cool rarities that otherwise most people don't get to see in the US. References Species Maps: Merlin ID, All about birds Some Descripti...

I have realized there is a mistake in the voiceover for the Golden-crowned Kinglet it is not a Golden-crowned warbler. I don't know why I always call one by the other's name. We had a chance to see another lifer in Hamilton County over the Christmas Holidays and had to try a few times before actually seeing it. It's been a busy few weeks but we're getting back at it. Birding the Smokies || First birding of 2024!
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
With somewhat of a time limit, we spent our first birding trip of 2024 in the smokey mountains! First of the year birding success! Every year, birders start with 0 birds for the year and that means that even a common Crow or Robin (at least in our area) can be new and exciting for the year! We didn't start off with a huge number of birds day 1 but seeing our two target birds plus an unexpected ...

Congrats on finding such an incredible species.
Thanks 😊 it was worth it
Great find! I'd love to visit that place some day, seems like the place to go if you like owls. And i love them.
@@spencerlowe7186 yes, we saw 3 Great Gray owls and a Snowy Owl while at the sax-zim bog Hopefully heading back someday.
@GATNBirding the great gray is my current bucket list owl. Jealous
Great morning and video !
Great video friends! Really enjoyed the bird shots in this one!
Really trying to get those cinematic shots 😅
I'm so happy to see someone birding in Catoosa. It's been almost a decade since I lived there but it holds a special place in my heart. Keep up the good work! Hope to go birding with you guys sometime when I make it back down that direction
@@featherbrain1 Thanks! We'd love to, just let us know! 😁
a lot of good species!
@@birdocs it's the most diversity I've seen on our property.
What a Beautiful spot you have there! 😊 What time of year is this?
@@TracyBirds Thank you! We are still in the process of cleaning up the place so it's a little rough in some places but it's getting there. It's the beginning of fall.
Three? All beautiful❤❤❤
Put a bucket of sand or pea gravel on bottom..water will be clear
Thanks for the tip!
Looks awesome !! Love it !!
love the Nuthatch, are they quite common?
yes, they are everywhere in our area. I love seeing them
Great list, Rachel! I think the community connections part can be overlooked but definitely one of my most important resources. -Ben
Yes I haven't really seen anyone talk about it much but we wouldn't be where we are today as birders if it weren't for the people.
Loved seeing the Bald Eagle.
Me too 😁
Nice find on the Spotted Towhee! Those Hooded Mergansers are so pretty too
It was pretty cool to see! The mergansers are somewhat mystical to me so they are always really cool to see.
Glad to see a Spotted Towhee head over your way! Great video!
Thanks! I never thought I'd see one here. There's still reports of her as of a few days ago
lovely variety of birds there, the color on that Eastern Blue Bird is insane.
Thanks! How much video I can get of a bird varies from minutes to split seconds so it'll vary from video to video but I do try.
Nice capture.
Thanks! 😁
Super cool!!
Thanks 😁
Your year is off to a great start! Congratulations on your life bird and the Short-eared Owl - that's exciting! When you spotted the Northern Harrier in the field I had a feeling the owl would surely make an appearance! 👏We are birders in the Pacific Northwest, so I really enjoyed the video. Happy Birding! -Jody
Thank you! They were so magical to see! Top bird of 2024 sofar for us😁
Nice find on that pecard and Roadside Hawk.
Thanks, they were quite cool lifers to get. :)
New subbie from central Alberta, Canada. 🇨🇦 We get the Warblers up here and I would love to see the Green Jay and Roseate Spoonbill. Great closeup of the Green Heron.
Thanks! They were pretty amazing to see. It's amazing how far some of these birds travel.
Another great video. Thank you!
Welcome 😁
Amazing video! Would love to see a Short-eared Owl sometime soon! Excited to watch more!
Thanks! They are pretty incredible birds, I hope you get to see one too.
Was this Tuesday Jan 2nd? If so I was there the same day with my kids. I have not yet sedn the red crosbills.
Yes, they were flying in trees around the trail to the bathrooms at around 12:30. They did eventually fly away, didn't follow them.
Neat crossbill footage! Always fun to short eared owls, too. Nice stuff.
Thanks!
I got the Short-eared Owl a week ago. It was after 5 before it came out. Light was fading, but got some decent shots. My first Red Cross bill came from Cades Cove a few years ago not far from where the owl was at the Dan Lawson place.
Nice! They are such a cool bird! We didn't see it till after 5 either but a few days before people saw them at around 4
Funny I went and got the Murrlet and Golden Plover on the same day also. Both was new birds for me. Great video !
Pretty awesome birds. Thanks
Great video, I think I met yall over in Dunlap a couple of years ago looking for Swallow-tailed Kites lol You should really plan a trip to SE Arizona, it's mind blowing the number of species that are there. Especially the hummingbirds.
That sounds familiar. We did go there briefly Oct of 2022 but we'd really like to go again.
This is such a cool vid! I love this! Great work
Thanks
Great video! I could hear everything you said and I like all the information you give. Well done. I look forward to seeing more.
Good, I'm glad. Thanks for watching:)
Met ya'll at Laguna by the least Grebe. Keep up the good work
Cool! It was nice to meet ya 😊

We would be able to actually hear your narration if you turn the music off. Thanks, I look forward to seeing more.
It's pretty dry without music but it can be turned down lower
It won’t be dry at all. 1) I hear sounds and voices from the original video 2) I hear the narration 3) I hear the added music As a viewer, having all 3 makes it impossible to make any sense of it. You’ve captured some great live video. Trust what you have is of great value and interest to many watchers and that we will want to watch from beginning to end. Looking forward to the next one. ❤
