    A little one sided. Of course a fuel company wants you to rent. It puts more $$ in their pocket! If the job for purchase/install is done the way it’s supposed to be, and you maintain it accordingly, you should have many years of stress free and cost effective gas service.

    I'm in the propane industry-- Account Executive. In residential, I was recommend owning your own tank vs renting them. This way if the company that supplies to you starts jerking you around in pricing, you can cut them loose easily and find a new supplier. On average a tank will cost you $1300-1800 for a 500 gallon tank. Just hire a service tech from a company, pay them for installation and you're golden.

    32 hours of burn time on my logs and I can only run it for 5 min at time because it stinks so bad. I have to wear an N95 and open all the windows whenever I turn it on. I had them come and clean the logs and check to make sure there isn't a gas leak, they cleaned and checked and told me it was fine and that I would just have to continue opening up all the windows in the house whenever I ran it. So running it in the winter is out of the question. So basically I just spent $2000 to get lung cancer, total waste of money. (I'm here in NC so a different company put them in).

    No, modern diesel re not the most efficient. Emissions compliance has neutered them so badly that many can be outdone on fuel efficiency (and now operating costs) by any off-road built and tuned gasser of similar power ratings.

    • @john.miller
      @john.miller 7 месяцев назад

      Maybe true with simply cruising, but pulling a load is a different story. Even with the ridiculous EGR and DPF requirements, gassers simply cannot compete with diesels when it comes to load efficiency.

    you dodged the answer for the 100g+ tanks. For some reason propane companies really push for customers to rent the bigger ones. I don’t know why, yet. I worked at Amerigas for 3 years. Word of advice. Buy the tank. Propane companies charge more for propane for a rented tank and a rental fee.Shop around for delivery. The company who fills you will have to leak test,$75-125. It all depends on what you use the Propane for. If your just running a kitchen stove then a 100# is more than enough. If you have a truck you can get it filled at Tractor Supply ( no leak test required). If your using it for water heater,dryer and a fireplace you run randomly then a 420 will due. A 420 holds 124 gallons but because you can only fill to 80% that's 100gallons. If your running a furnace then 2 420's in series should be enough. Two 420's hold as much as a 250 gallon tank. 420's can be installed next to your house. By law a 250 has to be 10'from your house.
