Is there any real difference in using Adrenaline and Retro flow Launcher to play PSP / PS1 games?

can you please help me out. I am having issues opening the Vita DB app. when it opens it installs sharkf00d but it instantly crashes after like two seconds. I saw on reddit some people say to download something and transfer it through vita shell. when I connect it to my mac I only see a couple of folders so I'm not sure where to put it or how to actually get stuff installed onto the vita.
