While the world was falling apart in early 2020, I left the city for the wilderness. Walking next to rivers, up and over mountains, camping near lakes. I listened to Far Caspian for 50 miles. When I hear them, I’m transported back there. Feeling the warm afternoon sun through the trees, while the world back home was falling apart. Thank you for sharing this.

hey! i posted something in the discord the other day talking about these three songs (as well as BST) having a connection to each other thematically, and i was wondering if anyone else saw it that way. i’m so glad that you do! anyway i’m gonna just copy / paste what i said in discord cause it kinda fell on deaf ears there but i imagine you’d appreciate it / have thoughts on it. so here it is: has anyone else thought about the narrative arc from blue spotted tail-grown ocean-i am all that i need-cradling mother?? bst grapples with the meaning of life (or lack thereof) and grown ocean is a reaction (not a solution) to those problems. basically just putting all your hope into one (implied feminine) person who’s gonna fix all your issues and be there for you and give you meaning in life. but as we see in arroyo seco that doesn’t pan out, so the response (again not solution) is to self isolate and shakily proclaim that “i am all i need.” but this doesn’t pan out either and it’s not until cradling mother that we get a true catharsis: that music itself is the thing that gives life meaning and joy. cradling also implies that music is a feminine figure in that it nurtures, heals, and protects, (and ‘cradles’) which are all traits of the person he was yearning for on grown ocean. so basically the person (or idea of a person) he was singing to in grown ocean was music all along. does anyone else read it this way?
