    I just troubleshot one of these (few generations newer model) which had only been used once and it apparently stopped working. It was given to me by someone I know who had been trying for weeks to troubleshoot it and get it working but they were unable to and so they were going to sell it for scrap metal but I interceded and they just let me have it for free. About one hour later I had it up and running. All it had was a couple of damaged copper wires on the electric motor, which I was able to repair. I do not know how in the world they managed to damage those wires or if the air compressor was just defective, but I do feel bad that it was really a brand new compressor that worked only once and then it was given up for useless because they just couldn't find out the issue of why it would not start. Well, the problem was a little hard to spot, but it was just a process of tracking where conductivity stopped.

    That is a solid truck. My uncle had one; still runs. Those old Ford engines are very hard to kill. You need to flush it out with Marvel Mystery Oil, put new shocks, cables, distrib, plugs, and douse it with Sta-bil rust inhibitor. I did that with all the old trucks and it keeps it away. I am going to pick up a 1966 Chevy C10 this week; hopefully I an get it to run. I am just fixing what it needs and keeping simple. Thanks for sharing.

    He looses his trans because he is young. Its his own fault.

  • @johnarntz1677
    @johnarntz1677 4 года назад

    You should have jacked it up. Took trans fluid out. Cleaned the filter. Put back in. Fill with fresh fluid. Then Drive it. Anytime a ford sits for more than 3 years. You should change the fluids. I bought a 1979 F250. Sat ten years. Changed the fluid in trans. They are using the trany in a mud bogging truck. Change fluid wash filter with brake clean. Shake it oout put back in. Fill with new fluid

    That’s works looks like a weak brush spring would not hold the brush tight to the armature causing arcing and overheating. You could replace the brushes and springs along with the fan which is just press on. Motor sounded decent when it ran. Might be worth a shot.

    • @kevinAuman1
      @kevinAuman1 4 года назад

      I agree, these compressors are a couple hundred bucks and up new so it is definitely worth fixing and seems to be an easy fix, new brushes, fan blade and a new pressure gauge also id check the rubber o-rings in the pressure valve to make sure they're good to go and then you have a working compressor for darn near nothing!

    My dad bought a '67 new when I was 17. It later became mine in 1986 and I used it for awhile until the automatic trans went out. I pulled it and sent it out for a rebuild, and decided to rebuild the engine at the same time. It went from a 352 to a 390. It never carried anything heavy and was my dad's daily driver for the entire time he had it. He was a meat cutter and only used it to transport his knives back and forth from work. It was a very good, dependable truck. I loved it, but gave it away to a friend around 2002 for his business. Mine had 2 fuel tanks 19.5 gallons behind the seat, and I a 25 gallon tank under the bed. The valve was a manual one located on the floor between the driver's side door and the seat. Look to see if there's a hole in the floor there with holes for the screws to mount it. That will tell you if there was ever another tank in there. Also, to the left of the steering column at the bottom of the dash there should be a manual toggle switch to switch the fuel gauge from front to rear tank. I wish I had that truck back again.

    I had the 352 in my 66 F100, great motor. In 1988 sold the 66 to rebuild my dad's 1968 F100 360 V8 , I rebuilt again in late 90's. Over 500,000 miles and still on the road, I could never park it. May not look like new, but a very reliable truck. I maybe wrong but, the part you asked what it was, I believe it to be a dashpot , used to prevent dieseling { running after turned off }

    I own a 68 F100. First sold 1967. It was my grandfathers, my Dad bought it from him in 1972. I took it over around 1988. Rebuilt engine by my dad in 1978. I rebuilt it in 1988 ( selling my 66 F100 to pay for it). Again in late 1990. It is great truck and reliable. Over 500,000 miles only one transmission rebuild, You mention the two barrel as a boat anchor, we'll mine has it and does a fine job for me. Forgot it had 368, but now 390 V-8 block and C-6 transmission. I have had different cars since 1978 when I started driving, most died. The pick up keeps going. Only major issue after 120,000 to 160,000 rebuilt the engine. Never spent more than $1300.00 to do.
