I love Next to Normal. I've loved it since the original broadway cast. Trying to tell any stories about mental health is hard to get right, close, and/or even relatable. I've always appreciated that this show doesn't try too hard at any of this and just tells the story. And the reality is that there's usually no good, bad, or happy ending. Life is just life, and some people just have to work a little harder at it. With all of that said, I really like this production's interpretation, and I would play the shit out of a cast album from them 🖤

His emotional performance as Dan always gets me, he's superb. I've seen the show 8 times at this point (hoping to be able to come back for more) and during some of those viewings I manage to hold back the tears UNTIL Dan finally speaks his son's name. That moment always breaks me.
Whenever Dan cry I cry... I'm not a huge cryer but I don't know his plotline just got me. And Jamie Parker is such an amazing actor. His emotion goes so deep in every performance. So incredible. This whole cast is amazing. Please please make a cast recording!!

Oh, as someone who’s struggled with countless mental health diagnoses and my husband has been my indisputable rock, I’ve always loved this musical. And this song gives yet another dimension to it. I’m finally off meds, third month after 7-8 years of being medicated and am somewhere between coping and thriving and I’m hoping to see this on the West End live next year. Fingers crossed.
unfortunately this show closes on the west end on the 21st September 2024 :( it should be transferring to Broadway though

@@nowhereisfar I wouldn't give up hope altogether! No promises, of course but: While this run *is* limited, there's a chance the show will have another run at West End (at another theater) after this one ends. Just like how the run at the Donmar led to the current run at Wyndham's. I think the current run is proving financially successful enough for another one. I doubt that if the show transfers to Broadway, the UK cast will transfer with it, as that is very rare, leaving them possibly available for another West End run. Another run would explain why they are holding out on a cast album and why Jack said in an interview recently that he doesn't think he's "done with Gabe quite yet".

Only recently discover Jack as an artist. He was captivating in the movie The Magic Flute. The few RUclips videos are a delight to listen to whether he is singing or talking about his craft. This one takes on an entirely different meaning once you know the story behind the song. What makes Jack's version so delightfully chilling is his Pan like demeanor while localizing some really dark lyrics. Incredible talent!
Maybe if I keep watching this video I can manifest a cast album. Please it’s a need at this point

Saw the show yesterday and it BLEW ME AWAY. The chemistry and talent of the cast was off the charts. Easily in the top 3 musicals I've ever seen.
I like how Aaron Tveit plays Gabe as this spiteful demonic wraith, but Jack Wolfe's interpretation as the sweet pretty "golden child", almost like a fairy or a siren, works incredibly well too!
Beautifully said. Wolfe's Gabe could tie you up in honey before you realized you were trapped.
It works incredibly well on the stage, even more convincing than Aaron’s version I think. You could literally feel her love for this sweet little boy.

he’s not really acting here, in most of his recorded performances he doesn’t do much acting along with the singing, but trust me he performs a lot more when he’s on stage

Listening back and forth to this version and Aaron Tveit’s. Goodddd I need this on any music streaming platform so I can add it on my playlist.
God, she's so good. I love Eleanor Worthington-Cox's interpretation of Natalie. There's something so much more... exposed and raw about it? Jen Damiano's version in the OBC just felt like it was already at the stage of "over and done with it," angry, almost annoyed. Cox's feels still stuck in the moment, unable to move past it all still. Makes Superboy and the Invisible Girl so much more a plea for help than a defiant put-down. Also, Jack Wolfe's Gabe is a stark contrast to Aaron Tveit in just this short video. Tveit was quite physically imposing when I saw it, and having Wolfe's Gabe be a bit more slight makes him look closer in age to Natalie, maybe almost younger, as if frozen in time. And it makes the Superboy comparison even more stark - The Kryptonians are effectively immortal, preserved in a moment forever. Anyway, I hope this gets a cast recording. It'd be nice to have a new one after all these years, not least because I didn't even talk about the incredible Caissie Levy in this comment.
i haven't seen the broadway production so i'm not sure how tveit compares, but i loved wolfe's almost sinister portrayal of gabe -- it transforms an ethereal character into a haunting one, and the west end production only heightens this effect through silhouette and costume. i really hope we get a new album; i love this cast so much.
