What's growing in my Hydroponics Garden
Просмотров 139Месяц назад
I’ve always been an advocate for keeping high-nutrient plants and low nutrient plants in separate reservoirs. As of today, I've definitely proven that you can grow all of them in the same reservoir successfully if you do two things all day, every day! My experiments began with two LG towers. Tower 1: A delightful jungle of tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, cilantro, basil, lettuce, chrysant...

      Yes, I use the brush to pollinate, sometimes I just break off the male flower and brush it against the female flower. You can also buy zucchini seeds that are parthenocarpic - plants don't need pollination.

    Thank you so much for your documentation! I am super sad to see these updates go. Do you remember when you harvested the next batch? Have you considered some sort of rotation to the system so you always get tomatoes? I will definitely be referencing your notes and videos in the future for my own hydroponic garden. Now off to see if you did a video series on cucumbers…… 😊

    • @Andrew_Sherman
      @Andrew_Sherman 11 месяцев назад

      I guess it’s a silly question to ask when you harvested your next round. I forgot your first harvest was day 77. So your next harvest should have been somewhere around 275-85 or so….

    • @jermee
      @jermee 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I should probably post the last 11th tomato harvest video, I've forgotten about it...lol I had to cut the tomato growing short because I wanted to start my onion/squash experiment... 😂I waited for a few weeks to see if I can get the most out of the plants before I tossed them. I had one last 11th harvest on Aug 04 - Day 290 the weight was 9.8lbs, most of the tomatoes were ripe. It took almost 2months for the plants to bounce back after heavily pruned. I haven't done rotations on tomatoes cause I plan on canning them for sauces/salsa. So my tomato goal has always been to harvest a large quantity. You should give it a try and do rotations, especially now that you can see how often you have to wait for a harvest with these varieties. You can definitely do rotation planting in the gardyn. You can plant 1-3 tomato plants every week, until all the slots are filled. The Tiny Tim and Aerogarden tomato plants can last a whole year or more if you take care of them and regularly trim the old leaves. They may take some time to regrow new foliage, but once they do get a trim, they will bounce back.. The plant will show signs(it'll look withered and full of old worn out leaves) when it's ready for a heavy pruning. I don't think I will do a cucumber video series..They're one of the most finicky plants I've ever encountered... Almost all varieties have a different pH sweet spot, especially if you want to continuously harvest more than 4 cucumbers at a time... 😂

  • @juttaduncan7216
    @juttaduncan7216 Год назад

    This is so great, thank you! I have a question, gardyn, you have the pump in the reservoir, and there is another black "disk"? on the bottom. What is that for? Do you use something different than a T connector at the end? At this point I'm only wanting to put the gardyn... I think. Not sure how well it would work adding the farm since the reservoir is so much shallower.

    • @jermee
      @jermee Год назад

      I'm not sure what you mean about a "black disk". This is what's in the Gardyn Reservoir, a circulation pump(Left), a small black pump+Clear vinyl tube(for draining the tank - Right), and the white float valve(Right). I use an elbow connector at the end of the blue tube so the tube doesn't kink. Back when I had an AG Farm, I've thought of using Battery Float Valves. I was thinking I could mount it onto the lid. They are small enough to fit and shouldn't interfere much with the plant roots. Just an idea, they come in different sizes...

    What would you say your yield is on the cucumber plants?

    • @jermee
      @jermee Год назад

      Can't really say, I had issues with the roots on this particular one. I was testing them with the 3D printed column, at first they seemed okay, but as they got big, the roots required more frequent watering, which I couldn't accommodate because all the columns ran on the same pump. I didn't want to risk hiving leaking issues with the pepper's ypods. So I tried to fix the issue by adding a cup for the cucumber roots to sit in just like the ypod cup in the gardyn. The cucumbers didn't seem to like that. The cucumber started struggling and then eventually got root rot, so I had to toss it out. I will try again next time, once I modify this gardyn with a dedicated pump just for the cucumber.
