One of the best DS9 episodes. Or in sci-fi in general. I can watch it over and over.

In some ways the Cardassians were merely reaping the consequences of their fascism and the way they had treated the Bajorans during the Occupation. But after the Dominion War....I imagine even the Bajorans felt for how many of them had died, civilian and military alike.

One of Harris Yulin's finest performances. If memory serves, he was actually nominated for an Emmy.

Some of the greatest Star Trek acting was in DS9; this episode is a real highlight.

Of all the villians of Trek, I find the female Founder to be the most one dimensional. The plot was interesting, but the lead villian was just one note. Her whole line of thinking was "Solids are bad". I found the Cardaissians to be interesting because they alligned with the Dominion for valid reasons, but knew down the road they were going to turn on them. Meanwhile the Breen joined for what reason? Nobody cared about their territory, nobody even bothered to punish them after the war.

You folks have got to see the episode. There is a twist

I really like these kinds of moments because you notice that those under the evil or at least the antagonist side tend not to cooperate out of desire to be in charge. Like sentinel and megatron, the sith triumvirate, and the founders, breen, and cardassians.

Possibly the greatest single episode of any SciFi TV show.

This somewhat reminds me of TNG's The Defector, except the Romulan featured in that episode was so massively deceived by his own government that his shame and self-loathing were on par with Marritza.
