    I think that certain Friday the 13th may or may not have a better cast than this movie depending on the sequel. Part 2 and 4 have better characters than Sleepaway Camp, but not Part 3 or 5. I also prefer The Burning over Sleepaway Camp, as The Burning is the best Summer Camp slasher. I think I prefer those movies because those film you are actually afraid of characters that you like dying as opposed the the terrible people in this film getting their comeuppance, which downplays the horror to me. It is a fun movie, but it's not exactly why I am interested in slasher films, which is to connect with character's just to see them die. It adds stakes and suspense. But everyone in this movie who dies just sucks.

    Ends is a better film (better execution, an original, yet extremely flawed premise, camera work, use of town as a character, etc.) but I'd rather watch Resurrection than Ends. Ends was "unique" but it had no business being the closing chapter of the DGG trilogy. I can't get over logistics of Corey and Michael tag-team killing people and Michael being his buddy and riding on his motorcyle (how else would Michael get to that doctor's house lol). I can respect it but I don't/can't see myself rewatching it. Resurrection is awful but at least I can throw it on in the background for a laugh. Ends has no rewatch value for me.

    I was extremely dissapointed. Loved the actors, loved the idea but so poorly executed. maybe i missed something but they consistently elude to him accidentally sacrificing his wife to be number 1 but then say he was always behind Johnny Carson. After the Halloween episode, id assume show would be canceled and buried due to the intro making it seem like a found footage type event. So when was he number 1? During that single episode? Its not like people are going to be calling a house line to tell friends to turn the channel at midnight and no internet/texting to tell people otherwise.

    I wanna say I liked it, and I know it was a smaller budgeted film, but some of the effects just took me outta the movie with how digital they looked compared to the tangible late night set. The ending “transformation” would’ve been cool if they had the money for it but it ended up kinda making me disconnect with the stakes on screen. Would love to see more original horror like this tho!!! Awesome review guys!

    Great lists, and epic discussions. I haven't seen the Orphan, X, or Nun movies (aside from The Conjuring 2) just yet, but they are all high on my lists. I am planning on watching X next month. I don't think Krampus or Josef/Peach Fuzz should be on this list personally, but I still do like them and highly respect the choices. I am so happy Sam, Bughuul, and the Creeper made these lists; obviously Art the Clown and Pennywise were going to be on here, but those other 3 are classics and underrated horror icons (even though I will never support the real monster of the Jeepers Creepers films: Director Victor Salva the pedophile. He might as well been casted as Freddy in the 2010 Nightmare remake smh). Also, I am HERE for the Jean Jacket lovefrom Nolan! Anthony, I highly recommend you watch the Dead Meat podcast for Nope, and I think it will make you appreciate the film a lot more. Either way, thanks for this podcast good sirs🫡🫡

    This was a Killer episode gentlemen!!! Excellent choices on both of you guys' Top 10 villains. Don't hate me, Anthony but I have to side with Nolan on his #1 choice, John Kramer is ICONIC, he's my favorite horror villain too! Sam from Trick-r-Treat is also Iconic in the horror genre and the Halloween season but John Kramer is on another level, he ruled the 2000s era. Tobin Bell is a living legend! 🔥

    For me the essential list is this. HALLOWEEN (1978) Started it all. H II (1981) Continues the story of Laurie Strode. H IV (1988) Continues story with Laurie's (and Jimmy's?) daughter. H V (1989) See the new villain coming. H VI PC ✝ Oh, you thought Michael was acting under his own power? H III (1982) 🏮 Unrelated, but still a good story. RZ (2007) with alt. end on DVD Pleasantly surprised. Everything else I don't care about.

    I’m with Anthony on the waste of suspense that is the alien prank. The Gordy scenes aren’t suspenseful because we already know everyone besides Steven Yeun died, so if we know that and we know he survived, there’s no suspense. But seeing these dark figures mysteriously show up in the barn, in such a well shot scene, having it lead up to a cheap joke was just a bummer. Honestly no other scenes in the movie are as suspenseful because everything else kinda falls into the monster movie formula.

    I totally agree with the opinion of 5 going the direction it did. People like to say the now-popular opinion that they should have made Jamie the killer. But in honest real terms, that would have crashed and burned like Season of the Witch did in ‘82 & Akkad could not afford to have that happen twice in every decade. The 1980s were ruled by Freddy & Jason. The slasher icon had risen to the forefront. It’s not realistic or financially feasible to make a 10 year old girl a killer after the success of part 4. You guys are hitting the nail on the head with that.

    • @tgriffin3059
      @tgriffin3059 4 месяца назад

      I've never understood the absurd criticism that is levelled at 5, anyway. If you like the original motif that was employed in the first film-of Myers stalking his prospective victims, and Loomis stalking HIM-Halloween 5 adheres to this approach as closely as any film in the series. It's pretty much ALL stalking....the focus is as heavily on Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis as it ever was in any sequel. As for child killers....just watch Children of the Corn. They have a small army of kiddie killers...and yet you always have the feeling that the second the movie's hero picks up a baseball bat, the kids won't seem quite so scary. That's the problem with tiny killers...the second a grown man shows up, the movie is over.

    As far as the new trilogy-I really like almost everything about 2018. I rewatch it a lot. Probably have seen it 15 times. Kills was very disappointing to me. There are amazing sequences (firefighter massacre, the Lindsey Wallace chase) that are ruined IMO by swerves into attempts at humor or elevated-horror-esque commentary which I do not watch these films to see. Horror is a fun escape for me I don’t think deep messaging belongs there. Ends was my biggest letdown since Jason X (that was my first Jason experience in theaters at age 18 & I’ve always found it stupid and cheap looking). I rank these as 2018 (3), Kills (11) & Ends (13). It’s also important to note I rank these films in a way that is personal enjoyment not objectively the best film.

    • @neversplituppod

    I respect your opinions of course but boy oh boy do I disagree on Ends. I have an approximately 20 point list of why I can’t stand it. To me it’s so disrespectful to the series, the fans & Michael himself. Plus I no longer have respect for Jamie Lee Curtis because of how she has treated Danielle and all of the films she isn’t in. Happy for you. As for me-On my last rewatch I had to turn it off because it was that disappointing. Full disclosure- Halloween 4 was the first horror film I ever watched. I was the same age as Jamie & I lived in a small Illinois town. The Thorn trilogy are my Halloween movies. Despite the flaws I love them. Halloween 4 is my favorite horror film of all time. I rank the 3 as H4 (1), H5 (6) & Curse (4) currently. Love the video guys

    The scene where you see Michael’s face slowly appear behind Laurie is supposed to be the viewers pov looking into the dark and slowly your eyes dilate to see his face/mask, he didn’t move, it just took your eyes a little while to notice he was there, don’t quote me on that but I’m pretty sure I heard that somewhere, to me it’s basically a perfect movie, there’s not a lot of them that I think are perfect but Halloween for sure is one of them, 2 more off the top of my head is back to the future and jaws, I love a lot of the older movies because they take their time, they just don’t make them like that anymore, that’s a cliche but I think it’s true, they don’t take their time anymore, Halloween let’s it play out, the only thing I don’t like about Halloween is they made sequels and yes some of them are ok, but I have hard time watching it and pretending like l don’t know Laurie is Michael Meyers sister right off the bat, other than that it’s perfecto, even when the parents come home and pull his mask off after killing his sister and the camera kinda pans way and the parents just stand there looking at him for like 10 seconds and they all look frozen, it’s weird but for whatever reason it works, the second movie was good but if I could take one thing out and put it in the first movie, it’s when dr loomis hears the the guy say “I’m trick or treated to death” and he says to the guy “you don’t know what death is” and then the music comes on, if I haven’t seen that part for a long time, I’ll laugh every time, this might not be the scariest horror movie ever but it’s the best best horror movie of all time

      @@neversplituppod I love The Menu episode. The Descent is a close second. If you’re inclined, please cover Ready or Not, The Invitation 2015, The Fly 1986, or Promising Young Woman. I’m not picky. Thanks. I know I’ll enjoy whichever one you choose.
