To offer an answer to your initial question. Atheism is correlated with a) access to information and b) a society that does not punish apostasy (or at least does not unalive people for it). I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the only thing on the rise in Christian apologetics is presuppositionalism, and when you use it, you don’t have to bother with any that pesky ‘evidence’ stuff or even making sense!
