"The Boys of Barr na Sráide" (the boys from the top of the street) is a lyric poem by Irish poet Sigerson Clifford. It was later set to music and has become a popular song. The singer is Donie Nolan from west Limerick. The poet grew up partly in the town of Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland, which is the locale for the song. The lyrics mention the folk tradition of boys "hunting the wren" on ...

California Dreamin' on such a Winter's Day
@adellysmelly The album CD was out of print when I bought it years ago from a music dealer. Can’t recall the name of it; I gave the CD to an Irish American cultural center.
omggg please tell me the album this is from. It's my favorite. I know every song and I know this is the first track. I NEED IT!!!

Beautiful but eternal beauty and happiness is found only in Jesus Christ who first loved us
touches the soul both tune, voice and lyrics
Oh I can never listen to this without tears streaming down my cheeks. God love every innocent who perished through greed, cruelty and downright evil perpetuated against the Irish. I’m proud to have Dublin genes and the Irish spirit , which, like many repressed people is strong, resilient and unbreakable ☘️ 🇮🇪 IS BREA LIOM EIRE
Skibbereen
This is where my grandmother was from, she was born there but was taken to England, London when she was only 2 years of age in about 1899. My quest is to go there to see skibereen myself. Her surname was croly. God bless you Nan. Xx
I’ve been to Ireland twice. I don’t have a drop of Irish blood. Grew up in inner city Los Angeles. But there’s something about Ireland that stirs my soul. The history is riveting, the landscape is hauntingly beautiful and the people are the best. This song brings tears to my eyes.
so moving
My family hail from Skibb and it's a wonder that any of them survived...Revenge for Skibbereen!!
All my worth
❤❤❤
America sent shipboard of food but the English prevented it going in to port and it rotted Also potato was the only blighted crop but all the food was sent to England
Old Ireland sold out yet again by Traitors.
This gives me Normandy vibes 🥶🥶
One of the most beautiful songs ever. My mother used to sing it.
She is my 8th great grandmother as well. How sad her story is. I smile that she held her head up through all of her trial. It's been said that she was quick witted and sharp tounged. Must be that bit of DNA my sister's and I inherited from her.
She is my 9X Great Grandmother, also.
I’m insulted by this song to be completely honest. I know it’s just the history but I don’t really know it just… somewhat hits the heart. (10th generation)
God save Ireland, and fuck the rest
Unbelievable 👍
Stranger Things season 4 got me dreamin.
What A Great Rendition Of This Sad Song
Beautiful video to pair with that song. Nice!
I am her 11th great grand-daughter via her son, William.
ugh britain was evil.
Wondrous story sung in angelic voice.
Greatings from czech republic,we have czech version ( čarodějnice z Amesbury)
I too am related to her through Richard North , Joan Bartram, her parents. So sad to have our woman ancestor tortured, and hung like that!
I have also been told that I am a direct descendant but I am not sure exactly how! It would be quite cool to have a “family reunion”. I’m interested to see if we all look very similar!
No, she was not a witch. It's sad to see people making money off of her and the other people that were accused. Don't you think that they and their families have suffered enough?
I came here from Return to Earth
Hey guys joining the family reunion! Her daughter Mary is my descendant!
Susanna is my 10th great grandmother
My grandparents were both born in Skibbereen.
Watched this exact video in primary school basically when it was released. It got me into history and traditional music. Huge part of my life right here
So we are all cousins here. We need a reunion in Salem...
Yes please, super down!
She is my 10th Great Grandmother 👵
California dreamin, only cause you’re gaaaaaay

@@dennisvincent160idiot just one word
My 10th great grandmother also
i have this song from that year lol
A hard enough song to sing with backing but a lone voice, well that's just fantastic. My mother sang this by my uncle's graveside in Cill Mhearnóg cemetery beside the town last spring and it hasn't left my head since. The photos are remarkable.
Thank you so much! I wish that I had been able to use all high-resolution photos, but this was just an amateur project. I am glad it is so meaningful to you.
Beautiful
Thank you
My grandmother Jane Martin is directly related to her
My family is also connected to Susannah Martin. She had like 10 kids so we're everywhere now. How cool would it be to have a family reunion type thing. All her decedent, alive and well, celebrating her now
She's my great great great great great great great great Grandma
@@jessicaray1013 I would love this, too! It is amazing to think about how many of us there are!
That’d be one crowded reunion. I bet there’s over 10,000 of us.
The singer is Donie Nolan from west Limerick
This is like a family reunion. I don't remember specifically but she is my either 9-11th time great grandmother. I've actually seen some pictures of other descendants throughout history and been startled to recognize many features amongst my grandmother, aunts and cousins faces. I like the rendition of this song, and if you listen to the parts that tell what she says it clearly is a song about a strong woman who stayed true to her character against evil. It reminds me a little bit of Socrates and Crito. I'm an artist and one day wish to sculpt a meaningful statue involving these thoughts.
Hey, we're related! Same here!
I'm a kinda related to everyone in this comment section because I'm SM 8-10 Grandson-
I am related to her and this brings sadness to my heart my many times over great grandmother
