I googled lucas ... my father worked there in the fifties before returning to Ireland to start a family.. he talked (not frequently)😅... about making dynamos and batteries... possibly Luton.. I'm not sure.. he was shocked to receive a pension from them ... he always encouraged me to broaden my horizons and great Britain was a bastion of success, the culture, the people, the traditions.. I'm so happy he is no longer around to witness the collapse of such an amazing nation..Ireland is now unfortunately not too far behind...

Injection pumps were originally by Robert Bosch then by CAV. 28:03 mounted on the Gardner cambox otherwise all parts apart from the crankshafts which were supplied by Kirkstall Forge and were machined by Gardner on Gardner designed and built machines. 🎉

Hi all. Great into from Gardner, at the moment I am rebuilding an 8/LW that has been lying out in the rain for many years, did my apprenticeship on a number of diesel and petrol engines especially the 6/LWs driving air compressors great learning time, that was 60 years ago.

Great talk thank you! I have used many small tugs and workboats with Gardner engines and they a great machines. there have been some very odd set ups in marine use. I have seen an 8LW with 2X 6 LW going into a three input gearbox out to one shaft. 4 fitted transverse with hydraulic pumps driving a hydraulic motor on to one shaft! Its a shame we won't see the like again

Ah the memories, started at GKS in 1974, had several factory moves and promotions. Began as a quality inspector, then Prod Control, on to Procurement and ended as a Buyer in 2000. Sites:- GKS, Gravelly Park, College Rd, Mere Green and finally Holford Drive. I think the best memories are the "banging out" at GKS, the stairs and landings would be full and anything to hand would be banged as loud as possible to anyone retiring or getting married, wonderful.
