I am a nurse and MAJORITY of nurses are poor. There are exceptions to the rule like travel which is not paying well either due to inflation. $60 in nyc turns to 1300 a week after taxes. Rent in nyc is crazy expensive, so is toll.

I suppose it’s relative, right? Someone could be okay with an amount that another person won’t tolerate. I think it’s about knowing what you want, who you are, and what you need to do to accomplish the goals you set. We’re all on different paths.

You are exactly right! Life is getting harder and more expensive for EVERYONE - and harder to live within your means. And you ask yourself, what other place or country to go that would be better? I see videos where people are moving to South America, some places in Europe...

It definitely is. Inflation doesn’t help. Cost of living goes up slowly over time as well. And by the time one has kids or a mortgage, it gets really bad.

That's insane. Couple that with inflation, "shrink-flation" and it's tough to keep up at all. I've come across some videos of nurses making a lot of money part-time as registered nurses on W2. I don't know if it depends on the years of training/experience or industry, but you might want to look into it.

They will never pay us more as long as migrant people are willing to keep coming here working for pennies. It's called depressing the wages. If you talk to people from other countries about it their only concern is how bad they say they have it in their home country. They don't care about low wages here because in their perspective we are just entitled and lazy. They come here and pay exorbitant amounts on college just to get paid substantially less than an american born person. African and latin migrants aren't getting paid the same salary or hourly wages as black americans for the same job. So they prefer to hire them. Especially if they have a visa to maintain that the company can hold over their head. America wasn't this bad once but because companies have learned the cheap labor glitch they will never stop. If these people from other countries don't stop coming it will eventually completely stunt americas economy then nobody will have anywhere to go. You'll see the same issues in Canada and UK. Idk why people thought this was sustainable.

That fight will have to continue. This might be a long shot...I think that if more black people owned and operated businesses, things might get better. How long will that take? I don't know. But I'm hopeful at some point, the tide will turn.

Also, I don't think this issue is as simple as an increase in migrant works has caused a decrease in wages. I'll research this further. I currently work full time and my immigration status was never a reason for my role - it was my credentials and training. I currently earn at the current level of people in my field. This is not where I started, but I worked and increased my earning potential by gaining the necessary skills and certifications. I also didn't take unnecessary debt. And all this after getting a divorce I never thought I'd get. Putting this issue as a simple black and white "migrant" problem is not accurate in the least, and could be very misleading. Are there people who are willing to take less pay for the same jobs? I'm sure there are. But what kinds of jobs are we talking about? I don't see any proper HR department that would sign off on this. Plus, I have heard too many stories of people who were fired or temporarily laid off because they didn't have the appropriate documentation to work for their roles - no matter how much they earned. Again, I repeat, the problem is more nuanced than "migrants caused the drop in pay". If you had mentioned how many jobs are outsourced to OTHER countries (and for cheaper), I might have believed you because that's happening right now.

In her defense, it takes a while for someone to understand to intricate aspects of a culture when they travel. I believe it was her own experience and I’m sure that she’s learned a lot over the years and from the comments on her original video.

That's right. No matter how much you explain, it seems as though people have to experience it directly in order to understand.

It’s the reality. Especially abroad: the culture is different and the standards are different. I think it’s “easier” when one is young to adapt. But when you move as an adult, it can be difficult to adjust and even more stressful to thrive.

Totally agree. She’s not! She’s built herself from the ground up, she’s a mother and clearly is open to growth, learning, and sharing. That’s NOT loser material.

How could I miss this? 😭 I was so focused on the “loser” portion that I didn’t mention she looks at as though in her late twenties. She doesn’t look 41 at all. And with kids?! She’s blessed 😅

We spread our little resources between here and home inviting stress to ourselves but in essence we're just trying to prove a point because we're not even planning to either be here or be home.
