Everyone involved here consistently confuses ‘My favourite bands’ with ‘The best or biggest bands’! I don't know ALL prog albums (neither do you!), so I don't presume to present lists of ‘the greatest prog bands’ or ‘the best prog albums of all time’. I know exactly my favourite bands and albums (prog or not), but even here the order changes depending on my mood. I definitely accept all lists like ‘My favourite bands’ or ‘These are my favourite prog albums’ etc. I don't take any other lists seriously.

Crimson is a band whose lyrics didn't experience a drop in quality after their main lyricist left. I love Peter's lyrics, and the fact that he was JUST the lyricist, which is quite rare and idiosyncratic (I can only think of Robert Hunter with the GD), but the lyrics on Lark's, Starless, and Red are just as good and expressive and suggestive. That being said, Peter really tapped into the zeitgeist of the era with the mix of ancient and modern, idyllic and horrific. Pre-Socratic Greece, pre-Reformation Europe, Joyce's Ireland, it's all there. He is a great artist with a really unique mind.

Focus is such an under appreciated album, although I never really associated them with death metal as much as prgressive jazz fusion metal something.
