I know this is maybe a tad late to the party, but seeing that some players might want to try this now that Uboat is in full release. Just a quick math note to make everyones life easier. The formula for km/h is easier to do in you head by simlpy doubling (multiplying by 2) and moving the decimal marker two steps to the left (dividing by 100). This will give the same result as multiplying by 20 and dividing by 1000.

The reason your ship can be pointed any direction when firing your torpedos is that the torpedos have a gyro that turns them in the proper direction based on your targeting inputs. If you point your boat more or less directly at your aim point you will be a little more accurate because you are eliminating one of the variables that could potentially go wrong.

For the ship speed it felt like you were waiting too long with the stopwatch, clicking on the corner of the stern rather than the centre-back of the stern(which is slightly hidden from view by the angle and corner). Then again I could be wrong because the sterns are rounded, perspectives at that distance can be odd.

Nautical Mile is 2000 yards. A Cable is 200 yards.

I use the metric system in-game (and in real life too 😅), and when I measure the distance travelled in 3 minutes, it's easy to multiply that distance value by 0.02 in my iPhone and get the speed in km/h. So as for in your example, 450 meters travelled in 3 minutes: 450 (m) * 0.02 = 9 (km/h). I think this is easy for everyone to remember, even if they don't understand the math behind it. (As an engineer, I do 😅).

Speed....1 Knot = 1 nautical mile/hour. 1 nautical mile = 2000 yards. 1 nautical cable = 0.1 nautical mile or 200 yards (100 fathoms as 1 fathom = 6 feet)

How do you know when to launch? I have several hundred hours in SH4. In Sh4, I'm on the periscope, watching the target, and launching at a very precise time. In your video, after setting the target parameters, you just launch??

well, for the speed, it's more easyly if u just get the distance, divide that by the time in seconds, and after that, convert the m/s to km/h just multiplying by 3,6.

Why is this game having people be the Nazis instead of the good guys? The good guys had submarines too. Is there a reason for this?

Batteries are depleting very fastly, I didn't turn on anything except gyro and ventilation with electric engines on forward 1. And also crew are all sleeping at the same time.

Sorry I know its 2 years later but I just found the channel. I am wondering how you would manually calculate ship distance without the computer? It looks like you are using the Pythagorean theorem and that the ships mast is filling a, how do you calculate what c or b is?

It's better to draw out course heading with the protractor because you can get that exact angle again then extend your line.

I'm a pilot, so nautical miles and knots make sense to me. 1 knot is equivalent to 1 nm/h. A cable is equivalent to 1/10th of a nautical mile. It can also be considered 100 fathoms. You can definitely determine speed just using one form of unit measurements. Your problem is you're using mixed measurements. I'd go full metric or nautical. Less conversion, obviously. 😂 So if you switch to nautical unit measurements there's more uniformity. Also, Nautical Miles account for the curvature of the earth so your readings and fire ordinance will be more accurate.

to measure the speed, the ships have to be perpendicular. Otherwise you are not measuring the true length of the ship due to angles measuring shorter lengths.

the angle matters at speed calculation too but i think there is a way to do it on map wich includes setting up a distance and taking the time it takes to the boat to travel it i think it works if you know what kilometer stands for knots i dont know thats why im saying its more reliabble but needs a calculation wich you suprisingly cant do in game right now
