I love hiking and walking, it's my passion. From a quick stroll along the river to a week long wild-camp, I'm showing outdoor lovers and enthusiasts the routes I walk, gear I take on a budget and a few tips along then way. There are no fancy editing techniques, graphics, or history lessons about everything I see. It's just me showing you what I love, hoping you'll love it too, and maybe even give someone the push they need to get outside.
Naturehike Cloud up 1 tent review and pitching instructions
My review and pitching instructions of the Naturehike Cloud-up 1-man tent - not sponsored or paid!!
For £100 this is the best tent I've ever had and I actually love this tent. After a few nights in it, I actually came to love being inside it, come rain come shine!
I've used the Naturehike Cloudup 1 tent for 9 nights on the trail (7 consecutive nights and 2 consecutive nights) in both good and bad weather. It's seen me through 200 miles and is spacious enough to be able to stretch and sit up. It's definitely windproof and waterproof which I confirmed sleeping out on a couple of stormy nights. It takes only minutes to erect and very importantly, can be erected in the rain in such a way, that ...

Hey everyone, No trail run footage as it wasn't possible on my phone this time... Just a recap of today's run and hopefully a bit of a boost and encouragement for you to go out and do something similar (or not so similar but still get out!). www.channelevents.co.uk/ - Channel Events are an events organiser I love. South West Coast Path Day 7 of 7 THE END!!! - 100 miles Plymouth to Penzance

Hi Everyone, So this is my last video on the trail. I woke up to a lovely wet and very windy morning, so went back to sleep as the forecast showed it passing after 8am. After having a nice hot shower at the lovely cute little campsite that had love and hippie written all over it, I set off on my last 13 miles. I was in drive mode, I had my headphones in and could smell the finished line. To the...

Hi Everyone, So after a very wet night (outside) and a very toastie dry inside, I set off towards Mullion. The weather on the coast path was much better and I had a lovely walk along the coast, spotted some SEALS which was AMAZING and stopped at a cafe to have scones and coffee. Much needed!!! A steep climb out of the valley and over some incredible coast path that resembled Dartmoor on one sid...

Hi Everyone, So Day 5!! After the most incredible, start, gorgeous weather and lovely few hours with Yizhu chatting and having coffee, I set off from Coverack to my next stop, Lizard. The trail out of Coverack was rocky and steep and every footstep needed care and attention. I got to a lovely pub in Cadgwith which served me a lovely burger and chips which just kept me going for the next half ov...

Hi everyone, So after recovering from that heatstroke, I had such an amazing and awesome day on the trail again. The campsite was awesome! So today I had a lovely walk following the trail and crossed a tidal river - yea the tide was out haha. Along the way I passed some lovely scenery, rarely touched beaches (only access is on foot via miles of coast path) and quite possibly some of my favourit...

Hi everyone, Nothing special today in terms of hiking as I did recognise my symptoms so took the day very lightly. I decided to get a bus from Fowey to Par and then train from Par to Falmouth and cut 40 miles from the journey which was originally planned for 140miles. My body temperature was messed up and there was no way I could have continued the walk if I pushed through it and I really had n...

Hi Everyone, This is day two of my seven-day hike along the South West Coast Path from Plymouth to Penzance. Day two covered the journey from Downderry to Polruan. It was spectacular weather but oh so crowded in most towns due to the holiday makers. I got to camp and decided to take care of housekeeping first which cost me dinner as all the (two) local pubs had stopped serving food so having bu...

Hey everyone. After a pretty rough few months and some events and people causing to me to question my beliefs, self and future, I had to get out and hike. I set myself the goal of hiking 7 days in a row with only my rucksack and tent - something I've never done before. This wasn't about big miles, this was about being on the trail. I was allowed campsites, b&bs whatever I wanted but I had to wi...
Finding Pine Resin and Sap for incense

*Update...totally failed! didn't smell at all...great process collecting the stuff and will try making something else with it...* Hi everyone. So I got bored this morning and decided I'd like to make a scent thing for my car. Note, it is NOT PRETTY, but I don't do finesse with DIY. I collected the sap/resin from pine trees in a local wood, melted it down and then soaked some paracord in it. I t...
Gear I took to complete the South Downs Way 100mi in 3 days

Hi everyone. Here is all the gear I took with me on the South Downs Way. I'll do clothes separately, as had the phone the wrong way round...oops. I did have to buy some new gear for this. Normally I wouldn't bother or would have the nasty cheapest stuff, but to do at least 33 miles each day, means I needed to keep weight down. I didn't pay full price for anything though, and the gear I have wil...

HI everyone. I didn't really do many updates today as I was just in focus mode. Feet were hurting a lot so wanted to just get it done. So the last day of my walk was amazing, if not painful. After having the best night's sleep I've ever had, in a tent, and at the side of the rather busy A23 (oh so classy ha) I set off in the dark and walked toward one of the most beautiful sunrises ever! I had ...

Hi everyone. So my second day hiking The South Downs Way was amazing, but I started to really feel it in my feet and by the end of the day I was feeling it. I set off from the farm campsite and made good progress. It rained most of the day despite being able to the sun shining on the rest of the country haha. There was a good amount of water stops along the way with some cafes to stock up in. I...

Hi everyone. So, having been inspired by a friend to do The South Downs Way (Winchester to Eastbourne direction) after her saying just how amazing it was having completed it herself - solo!!!... SALOMON Quest 4 4D Gore-Tex Walking Boots - Review

IF YOU SAW ADS, I GET NONE OF IT, I NEVER SIGNED UP TO GOOGLE'S PROGRAM! I just bought the best pair of walking boots I've ever worn. I've planned and will be going on the most intense walk I've done to date, soon - nothing huge by the pro-hikers' standards, but the most miles I've done in consecutive days so I'm focussing on comfort and weight... 115 is a bargain you jammy sod
Bro Im not kidding Ive seen this boot review so many diffrent ones most of them are detsiled bur not right if u know what I mean but urs is perfect
That's great Rob! I just bought the same tent and am headed out for my first camping trip in 40 years! This alleviated a bit of my anxiety. Now I just have to worry about Grizzly Bears. Haha!
I don’t get it I have that tent and I found so cramped when I set it up in the garden
I am not convinced about the inner to outer clip. To me it doesnt feel right. I think the inner can be effectively tightened by pulling the front poles a couple of cm forward. It could be that I am making a mistake!!
Thank you so much.
Hi ,115 British pounds. What a superb offer. Please lad, add a genuine link.
Thanks for the review. Can you remove/unclip the part of the rainfly which creates the vestibule (if that makes sense lol), so that you can have a nice panoramic view when sitting inside the tent looking out? As it's set up in your video, it seems like the vestibule is quite enclosed and all views to the sides would be obstructed... Thanks :) Also - How tall are you? I'm 6"2 - would I fit comfortably lying down, with sleeping bag/mat etc? without my head or feet touching the tent?
Great video and great tips. This was helpful. Thank you!
I've got a Cloud Up 1. It's good, it looks simple to pitch and unpitch, but it's a pain in the ass actually. Too many pegs, too many tweaks here and there to make it work decently.
Great review and set up instructions!
This is a great review and video. I used this tent last week camping in Cumbria. The advice given for setting up the tent in the rain was so useful and saved me a lot of hassle, thank you! It's a great little tent.
Yawn!
After pitching this tent myself, there i no need to clip the inner to the outer, leave it clipped to the ground sheet.
This looks like the 2-person tent and not the 1-person. Seriously. The 1-person weighs less and is less spacious inside. Please give the dimensions of the inner chamber.
They fit great but they LEAK ,so disappointed.
Does the outer fly have any tie up straps to fix it tight to the poles to stop the fly slipping in wind ?
Thanks for that. Just ordered one direct from naturehike in olive green £117. Looking forward to using it
wish someone would try it with 2 people... really wanna know how it does. thinking about getting that to camp with my gf, shes pretty small.
Thanks for your great review. I have a Cloud Up 2, which I used a lot last year, and I also love that tent. I do feel that the Cloud Up 2 is really big when you use it as a one person tent, (almost too big) and I am thinking of getting the Cloud Up 1 to safe some weight and packing space. Your review convinced me this is big enough for 1 person, where you can also have your gear inside the tent. Cheers.
Hi what was the name of the camp site that was closed, want to see if its open on my trip and book in if I can also the name of the camp site in housedean. We are doing Eastbourne yo Winchester so having to work it out in reverse where to stay. X
What is the name of the campsite you stayed on your first night. I am doing this in August and want to book places for along the way. X
whether they are waterproof or not
Great video separating the inner from the outer is something I'm going to start doing and keeping it inside my rucksack comprehensive video keep up the good work
Picked up a pair last night on clearance at REI $165 (US), looking forward to a short hike today. Big fan of Salomon so I'm sure I'll be pleased. Great review, thanks for sharing...
will a cot bed fit on it?
Great video I was looking to replace my cloud 1 because of having to set up inner 1st but after watching this video I can keep this and save some £ so thanks for making the video
Did you really do the south downs way in 3 days?.. if so that's very impressive!
I got them through Backcountry. It said from 230 to 170. When I clicked on checkout it went down to 138.99. I really like the boots
Nice shoes I have kanda the same
Where did you get this tent? Is this version the 210t or 20d polyester?
This one is the 20 D version these are currently for sale on Amazon
Naturehike cloud up 1 is still good for outdoor enthusiasts who use it frequently. Although it is not as expensive as the brand, it is enough for general hiking use. It is a budget-friendly style.
I agree
Yea I agree with that. And especially the enthusiast bit. I'm no pro and can't afford the super light mega expensive gear so this is a great all-rounder without too many trade-offs I'd say. I could've got the larger one and paid a bit more but for one person, I found the space, size & weight versus cost to fine. You can get two people in there, but it is a squeeze. The real proof for me was when I hiked the 100miles south downs way in 3 days. I spent two nights in the tent and it was so important to be able to stretch, sit up and be protected after 2 x 30mile + day plus walks.
I actually just picked these up today. I needed something comfortable for work as I'm on my feet for 8+ hours straight and I use my shoes for general use too and light hiking. In the shop they measured my feet upto different shoes and these ones seemed to work nicely and wearing them they feel pretty comfortable. I paid £185 but you get what you pay for.
Happy hiking!!
Great video! I saw a great number of people complaining about the durability of the quest 4, how have your been holding up? Thanks!
Thank you!!! Yea a number have. The general feedback has been positive and in my experience with them, bearing in mind I only really use them on trails/moorland and fields (public footpaths), they have held up very well. I've walked hundreds of miles in them now. on the South Downs Way my feet were in them for 14-15 hours a day straight doing 30+ miles a day for three days and they were FANTASTIC! They've survived 200+ miles of coast path which is quite rocky and gravely...they're still waterproof, and comfy. I never get tired of the lovely soft material under the tongue of the boot. However, I have noticed that the gortex bit is starting to get unpicked by thorns or brambles. I don't know if this is letting water in, as they haven't gotten wet but I would worry if a proper thorn got at it, it might create a scratch large enough to let water in. I would imagine this is the same risk with any shoe that uses this...
Ever done Clarendon Way? Winchester to Salisbury 24 miles. You’d smash that in a day 😂
I haven't but now you've said it 🤣 That'd be awesome too as both are on the train route I can use!!! Have you done it? What's it like and I'll do it in a day as a challenge on your recommendation haha. Although we only get like 3 hours of daylight this time of year...ah well, head torch it is haha
Haven’t actually walked it, I used to work for a private ambulance company so have done medical cover for it a few times. Defo fancy doing it though.
Would love to do this too. Logistics a bit more straightforward
The nice thing about this one is there are a number of stops along the way (if you plan your miles properly) and campsites etc if you wanted to do it that way. The views, spectacular and both sides have a train.
I love road cycling too, have done 100 miles a few times, in one ride that is
100 miles in one ride?! That's AMAZING!!
The boots were expensive but well worth is
Great series Rob & Jamie. Amazing achievement and pace. Would love to do the route too. Need to get back into hiking longer distance Is Plymouth the nearest station to Wembury? And what about Lynmouth? The Salomon GTX 4’s are so great. Just subscribed to Jamie outdoors 👍
Thanks mate! It was an absolutely fantastic experience especially when you go with a like-minded person who loves the trail and experience as much as you do 😁 Solo-hiking is amazing too, but if you go with someone, a fellow hiker is a must! All I would say is (if you have the circumstance) DO IT! Make a goal in your mind that you'll do this trail next year, set a date, and that's it, commit to it. Nearest station I think is Ivybridge (the old official starting point of the Two Moors Way before they made it a coast to coast). But if you are serious and really wanted to do it, I'd be happy to drive you from the station to Wembury as I'm not too far away; you'd have a nice head start! Otherwise there are probably buses but we got driven down so didn't look it all up. As for Lynmouth, I'd imagine you'd take the bus to Minehead (I've done it with another friend before) and then catch another bus to Taunton, where you'd pick up the train on the great western line. Hope that helps a bit 😁
Hi Rob thanks for the great vid. I have a pair of these, love them, same colour too. Go outdoors didn’t have 1/2 sizes so couldn’t take advantage of their price match. Originally spent over an hour in Cotswold Outdoors trying different boots. Decided on these and got a discount through British cycling 15% so not too bad. Did a 6 mile hike off road last weekend. Undulating terrain, warm weather, no water to test them though. Amazingly comfortable, the higher ankle support is fantastic for me as I have weak arthritic ankles. No hot spots or signs of rubbing. No breaking in needed. There are a few different ways of lacing that are worth looking at on RUclips. Also in Cotswold Outdoors they gave them a special coating in their machine for £4. Recommended redo this treatment every few months depending on usage. I’ve heard these boots are quite slippy on wet rocks? Have you tried? Be great to hear your experience. Just found tour channel, so will watch with great internet 👍👍
Had my Solomon Quest 2 4D Gtx for nearly 4 years now and just about to upgrade them. By far the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. Whilst standing in a boggy field it still feels like I'm wearing slippers in my living room. Well it used to before they started getting leaky lol which is why I'm upgrading (plus I've covered well over 3,000 miles in them now and the heels have worn down to nothing) but despite their 'well loved' appearance now they are still as comfortable as the day I brought them so will still wear them on dry days to save the wear and tare on my new ones. Thanks for the go outdoors tip also. Will try to put that into action hopefully this week. 👍🏻
You legend covering that distance in them!!! I've walked 100miles in three days in them before and other than some friction wounds from wet socks where the show tongue is, my feet held up really well. Haha 'well loved appearance' is a great way to describe that look 😂 Great to hear your experience mate and hope you have many more miles of awesome hiking and hope you're able to save a few pennies 😁
I've used this tent, and all I can say is that it's a really really bad tent. Got me soaking wet. Condensation all over the place. Poor performance in terms of wind. And oh yeah, when in dusty location, dust comes in easily. Very very bad tent.
:c
Maybe you are too reactive to outdoor life. It's better to stay safe in your cozy bedroom.
What would you recommend as a better alternative?
How about using only the rain-fly and the floor for camping? I am looking at Vik 1, but it does not have good reviews condensation-wise, although it seems to be more free-standing than the Cloud Up.
Ooooh that's a good point. I'll HAVE to try that in the garden. Not exactly a field test but would be able to see what the condensation is like!!
Greetings from camper Thanks for a good video I bought exactly the same one Check some of my adventures
How did you find yours? Enjoyed watching your video 😊
In windy conditions and pouring with rain everything would get soaked. Summer tent only I'd suggest.
No. He tells you in the video that he was in high wind and rain and was fine. He also tells you that you can set up the outer first and then setup the inner protected from the rain. I have the same tent. Very quick to setup in any conditions.
Having used it in both conditions, I can definitely say it stands to the test. I didn't really record any footage of my tent in the rain for review while I was on my hikes, but my most recent hike along the SWCP in Cornwall had two nights of very bad rain and wind, one of which you can sort of see for about a minute from this one I made: ruclips.net/video/kgD36y4HNcM/видео.html I don't know if you've used this tent or not, but based on my experience in it wild camping, it held up well. Cheers
This! Absolutely mate! Hope you've had some awesome experiences with it 😁
What are you talking about man? Clearly you don't know nothing about tents🤦
Yea maybe! I know as much as I have used it, nothing more... other than that I had a flipping awesome time with it and it was EXACTLY what I needed. 😁😁
Really helpful video. Thanks!
A real pleasure! Hope you have some awesome times outside 😁
Nice and very detailed review, Mate. 👍
Thanks mate! 👍 Was fun to do 😆
I’ve read quite a number of customer reviews through various online shop sites that show these boots to fall apart and leak after a short time of owning them. I’ve recently read a hikers blog who was actually testing a pair of Bestard Breithorn boots and stated that his pair of Salomons showed signs of breaking after a short time of owning them. I have thought about purchasing these Quest 4D but the solid looking Nubuck Leather Bestard boots from Spain may just blow the Salomon out of the park!
Cool, great to know! Will give them a go when mine break. I've only done a few hundred miles in them so far and had no issues but you never know.
Every year West Buckland School makes its pupils walk 10m out the the start the 'The Exmoor Run' and run 11m back to the school. The non running kids do the marshalling.
Respect to those kids that's one hell of an undertaking!
Well done 🍻
Thanks mate!!! :)
