Not a fan of these units, but I appreciate the niche that you have carved out for them. Nice little video!
totally get it - generally speaking they are not good - but in that pirate list they found a niche and filled it - i want them to be useful outside of that but man its tough
@@theoutpost8349 Yeah, I have much respect for you building the pirate list! It's not easy to do.
@@HouseMasterPoDing its a wild list and its fun - but you have to play 4D chess with it
Dude these looks awesome, I really love the cockpits against the dark camo schemes, what did you use for that?
the secret is that i used cheap craft paints - its cheap walmart paint lol - i used aplle barret parakeet - craft smart celery - and a generic white to do it - i do some blending and layer it on while the previous layer is still wet.
I love the Flea! I got to love it in Mechwarrior online, and then gave it a second look on the tabletop!
Wow, what a great idea to dive into the mission types. And I totally agree with you on the infantry, gotta have some infantry in your list! I Disagree with you on the heat infantry point, however. I think that Battle Armor especially that packs heat are a good thing to put into your list.
i do like flamer infantry bc they get to throw heat - but they dont help you defeat the bunkers and i have found that bc you paying such a high infantry and transport tax in bunkers shaving points her and there can help your lists and saving a point between MG teams and a flamer team can be big sometimes. especially when your main purpose isnt hunt vehicles and mechs but blow up the bunkers. but certainly if the points are there a flamer can be a good option.
@@theoutpost8349 Yeah, that's why I play more narrative based games rather than competitive, I get to use my infantry in a more realistic role that way.
@@HouseMasterPoDing dude thats awesome i love me some narative games and try to bring it into my competitive lists as well
Love it. Lot's of fundamental stuff to think about on this tough mission. One suggestion would be to throw some Xs and Os on the map, especially when you are talking about scenery set up. A visual, even a MS paint one, would be helpful. Important consideration: you don't need to be anywhere near the center of the map to start getting line of sight to the back bunkers; if you can draw line of sight to any point of the door, you can shoot it. A unit with long range attacks only needs to move up about 10"-12" on the edge to potentially see the door of a bunker on the opposing corner of the map. This should be a consideration when setting up scenery--block LoS from the opponent's board edges to your bunker doors. I won a feel bad game at a tournament by doing 3 dmg to a bunker in the last round this way. We even called a judge over to make sure the shot was legal.
thats good to point out - this is why its important to make sure those bunkers are oriented correctly -
Always nice to see Infantry on the table! I've got some really unique BattleArmor myself. I love combined arms, so that's a great one!
paint infantry and making them look fun and interesting is one of my favorite things to do even if they kind of suck on the table top
Are you worried about the survivability of infantry with only 1 health. You can get them to the bunker but won't they be fairly easy to kill?
yep - that is something you need to consider when it comes to those infantry - you can just throw them away you have to be super strategic on when you use them
Count me among the crowd that fell in love at first glance with the SHD way back in the early 90s...and then hollered 'WTF?!' when looking at the stats. Maybe the 2Ht will get my crappily painted minis from back in the day back on the table again...
also look at the 5D - it also has limited availability but is very nice
(Off to rummage through my Ral Partha box to see if it has a Flea infestation...)
it would be the best infestation
Really like your customizations/kit bashes for your pirates!
thank you - ive had a lot of fun with the pirates bc of this - i forgot to mention in the video the atlas i replaced all the guns with black powder cannons. its pretty sweet.
The littlest 🪲 can bring it
thats why some assualt mechs has laser in rare for a reason
i won't argue light mechs could take out heavy mechs.ones they get behind heavy mech other mechs.i am assualt mech guy.
Another excellent force composition with explanations. Really enjoying the videos.
thank you - im glad youre enjoying them and find them helpful
This is a neat little list. It's not what I would run, but I can see the utility in it all the same. Always good to see interesting and new list building philosophies.
right - i always wanted to run a light mech list to see how it would do and when we did a casual event i was like why not - its a lot of fun but it is very fragile and you have to be cagey and pick your fights. i liked the challenge of playing it. i think in a really competitive scene it struggle - especially in missions like king of the hill - but over all it was a lot of fun to make and play and you can be successful. the biggest take away i found was you still have to have something that slaps in the light - hence the atlas and heavy lrm. if it was just ten skilled down light mechs it be no good.
@@theoutpost8349 I also love that you're leaning into the pirate philosophy and not taking just the fanciest toys in the toy box. Very Refreshing to see a different list like that.
yeah half the fun of list building is trying to play to the lore a little bit - BT is refreshing in that there are no faction special rules you have to memorize like in most war games, but at the same time its boring to pick and paint a new faction and just run the same mechs you always run. leaning into the lore and finding different mechs and trying to play to the faction lore is a fun challenge
You make reference to needing 6 movement to go up a hill, and 4 movement not being able to. Doesn't minimum movement allow any unit that can move to go up a hill?
yeah i may have miss spoken on it still move 4" is low and can really impede your ability to get anywhere adn into a good position
That's my plan with all my vehicles. i will just paint them all up in an army green. So they can go into any force.
its life changing and actually looks really good in my opinion
When are you going to cover beast mounted infantry?
not soon enough
With episodes that focus on one mech I think it would be cool to include a link to the MUL page for the mech in the description.
thats a great idea - i go add that and start adding them to future videos
You're right, this is about the only Shadow Hawk worth running. The only thing that sucks about it is it's availability.
for real man - so many are disappointing
I like this format. Quick, clean and fun.
thanks buddy - its also alot more managable on my end - settling into a do a list break down then spend a few weeks highlighting the mechs in short videos.
These are nice videos. Focused, smart, and detailed. Sound reasoning without all the hyperbole from some creators. Keep it up!
thank you - ive met alot of new players over the last few months or people that struggle with the MUL and figuring out what to bring and how to use units and was wanting to provide a resource for them that they could digest easily - so glad to hear the feedback
Another sneaky MUL find, I love it. 35 points for a 10 move ECM is nothing to sneeze at! Great video as always!
I don't think I'll pick up these models specifically, but I really like your philosophy. Definitely going to have that pair of Ost mechs for the core of a force.
Hell yes! It's Saturday night. I'm stuck at work. And now I'm gonna get something to think about while figuring out AS350. The Peace of Blake be with you!
an the anvil is so good to think about -
A melee mech that is worth the points even without TSM and MEL.
oh for sure with this guy - 18 points of rock em sockem robots if he connects one time he's earn his points back
i paint some mechs.good f😂the snow
Nice find on the Ostscout! That's a sneaky little one! Great video, keep them coming. :)
go buy one for each of your armies now so good
Love those old school Pegasus.
"I'm slowly working through them..." Bro, you just got those models like yesterday!
i am ashamed that it took more than 24 hours for me to paint
I love the recommendation about building lists based on your own or a lore narrative. I did that for the Marik Civil War Classic tournament at KSAGG (I picked a backwater Militia unit that had mostly 2nd or 3rd line stuff, decided they should be all-energy since ammunition costs resources they simply don’t have, and that I wouldn’t have anything stronger than a large laser. Turns out, that list kicks ass (Ostroc, Ostsol, Fire Javelin, and Hunchback 4P) in both Classic and AS. It was also a blast to play-none of my pilots died and we were one of the few tables of “attackers” to destroy all our target buildings in the second round of the tournament thanks to the speed of that list.
i totally agree - you can play lore or themed lists and find so many hidden jewels and still be cometative - im in the process of making a Stiener Scout list and i must say i think you can run two atlas' and win plenty of games with the right support. plus playing to the lore is so enjoyable.
It’s amazing how many “Meme Mechs” are actually really good once you start using them for a role they’re vaguely intended for. I‘m building a Marik list right now that includes a Charger (for the purposes you listed here) and an Urbie. For 27 points (skilled the Charger up to 6), I essentially bought 17 armor and 4 guns at short (plus one at medium). For game modes where you need to defend points on your rear line, that’s like buying a Discount Dan Atlas in terms of armor and short range firepower!
You know that I love the Champion! Did you leave your Chamion's hips unglued? I love the effect it causes. I can't wait to see it in plastic. Maybe we can come up with a kitbash based off of the new CGL Black Python?
i would love it in plastic
I love these hidden gems that you find on the MUL for force building. Love the videos.
thank you - the MUL is so big and its easy to just look at the unit you own or got in a lance pack - but there are some really good machines in there
@@theoutpost8349 I agree! That's why I like your channel. Keep up the good work.
Nice work! All my infantry and vehicles are just basic. I’m not buying 2 for each force. That would cut into my mech money
agree - i think im gonna do the same - have two different op forces paint schemes - probably theese green camo schemes and a derest or sand when you mix them with parade colors its looks just fine and to me seems way more believable that tradition units would have camo and field colors.
I am a big fan of generic infantry and vehicles for the same reasoning as you. I have yet to be compelled to paint any mechs in camo, believe it or not.
yeah im enjoying making the generic stuff. although ill stick to the white themes for my WoB and Comstar
@@baxtercs It would be a fun video topic to cover what vehicles and infantry you feel best fit the WoB and later Comstar too.
I love the RAF/USAAF paint jobs!
@@TheSmileyGI thank you it was a shout out back to my historical gaming side hobby
Yeah, I'm planning on most of my vehicles being generic, but I've got a Striker Battallion planned that I want to paint up in their own thing. Kinda inspired by the Dragoons "Wolfsbane" in 3151 where it is formed out of using salvage from their campaign against the Davions. Mechs + Fast Tanks + Battle Armor.
The Ostsol is one of my favorites for list building. So glad it is available in plastic now.
oh for sure - i wish i could by a lance of four of them
I think these are two of the rare Mechs that feel like they perform about the same in Classic and AS. Both are great “midfielders” that can basically be assigned to any role you need (challenge an assault, hunt lights, take and hold objectives). Being not quite scary looking enough/stat-wise also really works to their advantage: they’ll punch above their weight so people often recognize how brutal they are too late.
@@TheSmileyGI for sure
I've noticed you seem to prefer IS tech. Are Clans less OP with objectives?
@@RecklessFables im mainly a IS player im drawn to their lore more - i've settled into a groove where i build a list and then do these deeper mech review dives from units in those lists - my don play clans and we are talking about taking one of his lists and breaking it down in the futre. but yes i play more IS and like them more.
Nice work. I like the short form video. That 10-25 min range
Great explanations of the sublist choices and purposes.
thank you - im glad it was helpful
Very cool stuff!
thank you
Good video, I look forward to more. Love the theory-crafting! Point of order, the Champion is a heavy mech, not a medium
good catch - totally mis spoke yes as is the anvil and ostsol in this list thank you
@@theoutpost8349 No problem. I don't mean to be pedantic, as I truly enjoyed the video and hope that you make more. :)
@@HouseMasterPoDing no it was a good catch when i was doing my sub lists i had the size listed wrong and i was worried about my king of the hill list - its alot better with them being size 3
@@theoutpost8349 Also I like the Champion as a kind of 'diamond in the rough' pick, I had never really considered it before.
@@HouseMasterPoDing dude it is so good - and being able to sneak some flk into your list is the cherry on top - its very reasonable to field a 1N and 1N2 in a list and just be like - there are my two skirmishers.
I glanced at the notes I took when we talked in Minnesota, and they're basically the same as the notes from this lecture. 😆
Enjoyed the video. Listened while I painted. Perhaps a bit long for my taste. Maybe prefer the theory/philosophy information as one episode, then demo/example of your specific lists in another? Looking forward to the next one.
i think i got over ambitious in this first one - when i did my outlines i thought it would be closer to an hour. this was definitely a learning episode.
Well done sir. Keep it up
Love the 1st episode. keep it going. great work!
