Hey looking good! I’m curious why you turn off the ignition key ? I hope I’m not doing anything wrong. What type of engine do you have? Go well.
expensive toy, fair winds
We keep our boat within spitting distance of where your Westsail was. I saw it for sale and was exited for you to buy it.
The video cut off leaving the marina to suddenly back at your place in Hawaii. If you turn the phone on landscape mode the screen view will be easier to see . Thanks for sharing
Thsnks
Yep, the camera makes yer butt look big, lol! 😅 Congratulations Jim, nice boat! So glad you got another boat and she's so awesome!! If you're passing Santa Cruz, let us know, LOVE to see you!!
Beauty boat, Jim I am sure man who is in the race to Alaska should be able to manage to back his boat out of a slip😂😂
Thanks Rusty!
Hey! Sorry to have missed you while in the bay area brother. I super stoked for you having the Westsail 32 in Hawaii now, nice work!!.
Just subscribed and binged the Hawaii voyage. Thank you for posting! I had a question about your first equipment video. I saw some nice glasswork on your heater/stove in one of the shots 🤭 I was wondering if you took that with you across the pacific? If so did you use it during the voyage and what is that like? Also is USCG enforcing? Thank you!
Loved it, thanks for sharing. You rock brother.
Hey update your blog!!!I am following you
Wow! That is amazing and I can't wait to see video's of your next adventure :) Happy Birthday on the 17th!!
good sailing ⛵️⛵️⛵️ i have a Maxi 26 from 1978. I like to sail in the wold 💪🏻💪🏻❤️⛵️⛵️
Small world. My Atkin Ingrid gaffer is on the dock behind you. I'm at my house in NorCal. I met that couple, they did a lot of work prepping her for sale. I sailed down from Moss Landing 6 years back.
Wow! That is a small world. I'll be there the 28th for a couple of days before I head for San Francisco. If yur around, let me know.
Being a full time sailor this was heartbreaking to watch!! You have a great attitude. I’m looking forward to your new adventures
Congrats on finding a great vessel! SFO bay is my home sailing area. Brisbane marina is a great location if you are looking for a marina. I hope to run into you while you are in the area. I found my Polaris 43 ( Bob Perry designed cutter) in Ventura as well. Safe journey up the coast bro.
Thanks Ken, I souks be there in the first week in June. I'll be at San Raphael Yacht harbor, that's where I rebuilt my last boat. Let's do a sail in the bay !
@@sailingwithadockrat A sail would be cool! I’m in the middle of a refit myself. Hope to put her back together enough to get some sailing in and continue to do the refit work this summer. It’s funny how getting started on one project leads to two or three other projects.
Glad to see you on a new boat 😎. Seriously, the nicest brightwork/condition W32 I’ve seen in YT
Yeah it's really complete! I'll be updating the gallery and the bathroom down t he road but pretty minor stuff.
Man I am very happy for you, and what a beautiful little ship you found! The Westsail 32 is one tough blue water yacht and this one looks to be in amazing overall shape. You'll have more elbow room below decks as well! Congratulations!
Thanks, I got lucky finding her! See you out there!
It's looks like your late Melissa lea. It's Beautiful!!!!! ❣️ I'm happy for you Bro!
Lovely classic boat. Good luck with your future voyages.
Rad boat. Love the solar panel. Adventures again.
Nice Jim! The adventure continues!
Westsail is my dream boat maker. I’ll find one some day!
Congratulations, my home port. I sail a Union 32. PCYC is your marina. Very cool! Give me a shout when your in town. Scott and Pete do most of the rigging in our area.
Thanks bro we"ll do
@sailingwithadockrat I just did some work on a Kendall 32. If you know the Westsail, you will know this vessel. It's in the marina across from your vessel.
Congratulations it's beautiful. Looking forward to more updates. Kelly
Thanks Kelly. Come to Hawaii and sail with me when I get back there!
Congratulations Jimmy super happy for you!!
Hell yeah man! I hope you get a great sailboat again.
This AJ this the best
Jeff and I are hoping the very best for you Jim! (Erin McLoughlin and Jeff Haase)
Thanks so much Erin!!! All is awesome, I got a personal loan and have already found my next boat! You guys should come to Hawaii when I get her there and we'll have some of those awesome 5 hr. Dinner sessions on board!
😢❤⛵
😞lots new boats to be had👍
You need to take a course on how to save a boat stranded on a lee shore. On a soft beach like that it is possible, I have done it on much gnarlier beaches than that, in hurricane force winds, you had to belly crawl through to get anywhere. Mind you I was a young man at the time but between half a dozen of us we were able to save fifteen small yachts. I learned on the job so to speak from men older and wiser than me.
The problem for Melissa Leah was the keel joint and the rudder casing was destroyed
@@sailingwithadockratYep I could see that from the pictures , This is what I mean about saving a boat stranded on a lee shore. It is a simple operation made difficult only by the weather. But it does need to be done ASAP after first touching bottom.in particular on a falling tide.
Unfortunately we had to rely on the kindness of the sailing club to lay her down. We could not be there as I was on call until 7a the next morning. Thank you for sharing your wisdom though. Jim has had to beach her once before and he was able to get her back in the water the next morning. I think that adventure is back in the archives on this channel. We so appreciate you caring enough to give us the benefit of your experience, sailor. Fair winds and following seas.
I’ve been waiting to see your next episode and was wondering why it was taking so long and this is not the episode I was wanting to watch. So sorry for your loss. I’m glad you’re safe and looking forward to see what boat is next.
Thanks so much. I'll keep the videos coming!
I’ve really enjoyed following you and your boat way out here in the South Seas. What an amazing woman and team effort of help-wow !!!! And as for the horrible attitude of the Marina’s…disgraceful and highly shameful. I’m stunned. Go well and look forward to seeing you and your new boat one day here in Aotearoa. Fair winds ✌️
Coming soon!
Thanks so much for you support! See you out there!
My goodness........I'm truly sorry for your loss.....But at the same time, what an inspiration you are, because you will not give up and how true it is that life's hard knocks make the victories that much sweeter! I wish you every success and hope you can get onboard your next boat as soon as possible!
Thank you so much!
Agree with your assessment, Jim never gives up. Reminds me of the Dread Pirate Roberts. "Impossible? You're just saying that because no one has ever done it before."
Nice trip, great narration. Dead- interesting choice at 4 knots...lol. I just bought a formosa, planning on doing the trip after a refit . Maybe I'll run into you there....fair winds...Abbondanza...sailing San Fran- Winchester bay in Jan or Feb.....not the best run with current and winds the wrong way for a shakedown, get her home to refit.....love your channel.
Thanks bro!
Im thinking the simular trip ...im watching
DO IT!!
Awesome dude. I have a Mirage 26. I sail the great lakes! Kudos!
Right on
That was great, enjoyed it! Sub'ed and looking forward to seeing some of the coast. I lived there 6 years but never once sailed to another island. :( Living vicariously through you. Alooooooooooohaa!
Awesome thanks@ gonna try for all the anchorages on the main islands.
Great accomplishment, edited really well, and I enjoyed watching all of it. Thank you for posting this journey!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi. Been loving watching your journey. We're sailing to Hawaii next summer from San Francisco on a Dana 24 so it's been great to see your progress and how you're living etc. I'm curious about your water maker. I see them on ebay pretty reasonably priced. How did you find yours? Have you replaced any parts, especially the filter. I can't get a clear answer on the parts situation.
Awesome achievement! You should be very proud and doing it on a 26 Haida! Great video ....
Thanks!
Enjoyed❤
I was waiting for this. Glad to see this episode. Hope you’re enjoying your time there. I have a 27’ Hunter so now I know I could possibly make it to Hawaii with a smaller sailboat.
I'm gonna do the next episode on the Hilo area and what to expect here. Thanks for watching!
Congratulations! Nothing like stepping on the dock after such a long trip.
That was one of the hardest parts for me. I got hurried off the boat by my girlfriend, very disconcerting! Next time I'll schedule several hrs to decompress.
Did you delete your pt5 sailing to Hawaii??
Your music choice gets my sub
It seems to me that the most important aspect of solo navigation is sleep management. If you are fresh, you can solve any problem. If you get tired, one might make a mistake. Longest solo passage I have done was three days/two nights and despite the hourly egg timer ritual, I ended up exhausted. But that was coastal, where one had to worry about commercial fishing boats etc. Does it get any easier offshore?
yeah, it does get easier. I didnt see anyone till Hilo after I started west.
That sounded like an autopilot working in the background but I see that you have a wind vane?
I used both. The electronic work great most of the way till i fell on it. It ended up dying 4 days from Hilo.
You dont have to get permission to go anywhere in Hawaii. You just wont get a warm welcome.
I dream of this EXACT adventure ❤
