I hope you can help me, I have a Roku 2 xs, I don't have the remote. My phone does not have a IR Blaster. I do have a dish remote(20.0 IR) and I have tried a few codes but nothing happened. Can I take a USB cord and hook my phone up to the Roku port and then use the phone as a remote? I don't think so, I have to ask. I would to enjoy the programing, I just don't have the paper to buy a remote. Is there something that I can do to get this working without spending money on a new remote? Please let me know

Shaun I just purchased a soundbar that's not listed in the pairings. I want to be able to turn the volume up & down with it while I'm watching dish...is that possible? My vizio was simple as it just worked automatically as it was connected like this one with Optical, but this one isn't listed.

I noticed that for some buttons, if I held it at the 3-4 inches suggested in the guide, the dish remote always blinked 3 times quickly which means it didn't learn the button. Holding the remote 10-12 inches allows the Dish remote to learn the code - yay! The Dish learning is supposed to be for IR (infrared) remotes - that's why you point the IR transmitter at the IR receiver on the side of the Dish remote. My Roku 2 remote is RF (or bluetooth maybe) either way it doesn't send IR codes. Your Roku remote *must* be IR for this to work. (You can check by pointing it at a phone camera - you will be able to see the IR LED in the phone's camera preview)

What dish remote you are using? I try with the 21.1 no luck i have a roku 3 and a roku usb no luck with either one please help

If one button didn't get that , you will have to start all over again because it erases all learned buttons if you try to add another button.

Shaun, thanks for your reply. I get the blink on the dish remote after each Roku button is depressed. I tried it 4 times last night. I'll give it another try. Supposedly the Dish remote is a "learning" remote so I don't know why it's not working! I'm using the DVD button as AUX is in use by my stereo receiver.

I just tried it a 3rd time and it acts like it's taking it but in the end, the Dish remote does nothing. I have the black and silver Dish remote and the Roku 3. I press the Dish button I want, such as Menu, then the corresponding Roku Home button until the dish button blinks and do that for every Roku button. Help!

It didn't work for me. I tried it twice. When you finish programming, do you push the DVR button again to lock in th codes or the back button? I can't understand. I wish you'd record this again when the house is quiet. Thanks

This seems complicated as hell.

Tried a few time with no luck. After about the 10th time...BOOM!!!!...it WORKED! The key to syncing the keys is to make sure the mode light blinks only 1 time when holding down the button on the real remote. If it blinks multiple times, it didn't register correctly. Thanks for the vid....Now I am able to use my Dish remote with my Samsung 5.1 Home Theater receiver.

OH MY GOSH!!! this is the best and ONLY video on RUclips that ANYONE should consult when trying to program their Dish remote! Thank you so much Shaun. You've done more for me on this issue than any forum or representative or manual ever has. Brilliant. I used it to program my Samsung 550 sound bar and Netgear Neo Max streaming box to my Dish remote. Works on older models for sure, from 20.0 IR-21.1 IR/UHF remotes. Thanks again Shaun!
