I'm Shelley Merchant, a retired educator, wife, mom of 3, biz owner, fiction author, & cancer fighter.
Have you ever said “One of these days I’m going to…”
Well, “one of these days” is here!
At some point we either make plans to DO the things we’ve dreamed about…or we accept that they’re just dreams & we settle for what is.
So here's my dream…for us both:
To acknowledge that there is nothing wrong with us while pursuing personal growth & development to become happier, healthier, & more enlightened people.
To increase our ability to deal positively with change…because it's coming.
To be as happy & joyful as possible, to spend time with loved ones & to find delight in the daily pleasures of life.
To recognize that home is a cocoon…a safe place from the world & to enjoy the time spent there in solitude, with family, & in pursuit of interests and dreams.
To live with purpose, spending the time left pursuing goals, chasing dreams, embracing opportunities.
Can I help you do the same?

6 Months of Warning Signs I IGNORED Before Cancer Diagnosis
Просмотров 2821 день назад
Don't ignore the warning signals your body is sending you. My stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis was not something I expected and I've wondered if it might might have been caught at an earlier stage if I hadn't ignored some signals that something was wrong. The good news is that a stage 4 diagnosis doesn't have to be the end of the world or an immediate death sentence. There can be life after diagno...

Your Time is Now: Older Women, Reclaim Your Life
Thank you for the video😊 its helped me decorate my kitchen 😊
Sometimes approval from those that matter doesn't matter, in my experience. There have been a few things (the biggest one moving cross country) that those that I love didn't approve and I almost let it stop me from following my heart and doing what I wanted (thankfully I chose me over their wants and approval).
You're correct. Ultimately, we all have to listen to our inner voice and do what's right for us...despite what others may think.
What else would you add to the list?
Such an important message! Today is a special occasion and perfect for wearing that special outfit, jewelry, perfume, etc! This reminded me of a TikTok video I saw awhile back where a woman was dressed up in a sparkly outfit (my kind of vibe lol), nice jewelry, etc. and one of her clients asked her what the special occasion was & the gal said: "me, I'm the special occasion." I loved that!
Have you ever been guilty of this?
Do you struggle with a health issue of some kind? They're more common than a lot of people think.
Oh my goodness Shelley...what a testimony. So glad you are doing as good as you can...prayers for more time on planet earth...
Thanks, Sharon! I've been so fortunate and blessed with great doctors, medical advances, prayers, and love from family and friends. I'm truly grateful for it all!
Love you Sister! ❤
Love you too!
Wow, Shelley! What a vulnerable share - thank you for opening up and sharing your story.
My hope is that it will help someone else not do what I did. When our bodies send us signals, it's important to listen and act. I was foolish. The moral of the story...don't be like Shelley, be smarter.
Do you struggle with technology fears? Have you overcome them or are you still working on them?
Technology can be such a beast sometimes! I don't think it's fear of technology that holds me back, I think it's just not knowing how to use something, sometimes.
Can you share your review on the binder version?
I don't think I kept the binder version (if I did then I've hidden it from myself extremely well!) but here are the maub few pros and cons as I see them: Pro: Getting the binder version allows you to insert extra pages in the binder wherever you like for whatever purpose you like. It makes it so that that you can combine elements from different types of planner systems into one binder which I like. After all, less binders to check in to makes life easier. Con: I'm not always wild about ring binders. They're hard(er) to turn back on themselves and when they're completely open they take up a lot of space on your desk or wherever you're keeping it. The spiral bound is only about an inch thick and it turns back on itself nicely so that you can only view one side at a time. I hope that helps. If I can answer anything else let me know and I'll do my best.
Whatever can go wrong, will. Isn't that the truth?! ;-)
Have you ever dreaded a holiday? How did you handle it?
Thanks for the nice review! The thing is huge, so I ma glad you showed it to us :)
I'm glad it was helpful. I'm pretty picky about planners so I like to see ALL of the details myself!
Not related to the content of your video but I LOVE the new haircut and blue is my favorite color on you!
Thanks, Tish! It was time for a haircut (past time, actually) and blue is my favorite color...I wear lots of it!
Loved this video, Shelley. As usual, wise words with useful information. Creating new habits is never easy but the 4 steps you provided makes it more doable.
Is there a habit or routine you could implement that would make you happier?
Have you ever managed to create a long lasting habit in LESS than 21 days? I never have.
Do you have a way that helps you to create, track, and achieve your goals? I'd love to hear your system.
Is there a new habit you'd like to introduce into your life?
This video came to me when I needed it the most!! Thank you so much!! I will put this to work, I really needed it, I feel like I've lost control of my life and I need some change!!
I'm so glad to hear that! I think we all get to feeling out of control at times - I know I've certainly been there a few times myself. But change IS possible. It's never too late. Things are never hopeless. And within you are infinite possibilities. Sometimes we have to dig a little deeper before we realize it, but I believe that you have everything you need already inside you. Best of luck and please come back soon. I'd love to hear about your progress!
Oooh, such a gorgeous planner! Thanks for the thorough walkthrough of this planner! Looks like it would be a beneficial planner for any of us planner junkies ;-)
They are gorgeous, aren't they! I look forward to getting my new set each year around this time and I can honestly say that they're something I get in to each and every day (gotta love those tending lists!).
Another great video with practical tips, Shelley! Tip #4 was a hard one for me to learn. Love tip #7 - I have a folder on my computer with the kind things people have said to me/about me; it's nice to have positive/kind things to look back on when I need a little pick me up 🙂 Tip #9 - hopefully nobody ever goes through my playlists because there is such a wide range of playlists LOL Sidenote: blue is a great color on you!
Very interesting. Well done!
Many thanks!
Informative and entertaining, as always!
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
Love this post, Shelley! Thanks for speaking up!
Thanks, Debra! Just something that was on my heart.
I love your videos! You're so confident on camera and you have such words of wisdom. I remember when I graduated highschool and wanted to go to cosmetology school, instead of college, and my dad would not stand for it. I had to go to college because that was the right thing to do, the way things were. Well, that backfired - all I did was rack up a crap ton of school loan debt, learned how to party (more than I already knew how to), and after 1 1/2 years was kicked out because I couldn't get off academic probation. (Thinking back - why did I let my dad push me into college? I was an adult - I could have made my own choice... but I was such a different person back then). I'm so surprised by the women I come across who still, in this day and age, live by the old programing of what they were taught they had to do, etc. (women are meant to be wives & mothers). I had to do a lot of work (aka counseling!) to unlearn all that old programming of what I was supposed to do as a woman! I lacked confidence for many years; when I finally started learning how to be confident... a whole new world opened up for me ;-)
Thanks, Tish! I realize that some things that become ingrained in us aren't limited solely to a particular age group. Programming is deep and hard to overcome - which is why it's so effective. Getting past it takes a lot of work!
@@TamingFrenzy Yes, it sure does take a lot of work to get past this stuff!
You gave some great tips, Shelley. I liked that you opened with a quiz (I answered yes to 2 questions so I'd say I'm pretty confident!) One of the first things I learned, many years ago, when I went into AA was that people probably weren't talking about/thinking about/judging me like I thought they were, and even if they were - what they thought of me was none of my business! 🤣
That was the most freeing realization of my life I think. It was like a cloud lifted b/c I no longer cared b/c I knew people were busy with their own things.
So true!! 🙏
Amen to all you say! My "how" to your "why"s is to never give up on yourself and to practice, practice, practice every day.
I agree totally! Just because we're a certain age doesn't mean we're finished growing and doing.
Loved all these reasons! #6 was a hard one for me to learn! I went through quite a bit of life seeking someone or something to make me happy - pretty empowering to finally realize whoa, it's my job to make me happy & it's not something anyone else (or anything else) can do for me!
I think the minute we realize that then there is a huge mind shift that happens...and I suspect a huge relief for the people around us.
I am a negative Nellie but it is more that I try to think of all the things that have (or can) go wrong. Working retail has had a lot of hard lessons.
I think there's a difference between looking at all possible scenarios and being someone who tries to sabotage others. Considering all options and possibilities - both the good and the bad - is actually a skill and an asset in many situations.
Enjoyed this video, Shelley. Helpful tips. I'm great at setting goals... following through and action-taking to reach them, not so much. I recently realized that the words goals and habits were a bit triggering for me and too pressure-inducing - I was constantly beating myself up for not reaching them & putting more and more pressure on myself to set new ones and then not meeting those ones. It was a vicious cycle. I just haven't figured out a better word to use yet LOL
Another great video, Shelley!
Glad you enjoyed it!
👍
