He's right in that most subsaharan African Countries in general are in dire need of stable goverment, stable infrastructure, science and engineering, better economic planning, less violence and corruption, and so on, and the more africans with some so-called "western" eduction in those areas the better... but the belgians in particular taught the Congolese in particular NONE of those things at all and were brutally violent and most of those that were over there were just brute soldiers or stupid Christian missionaries. They were not sending over their best people. The basic reality is that European colonization was a terrible evil in the vast majority of cases, exactly because the Europeans had no interest in the native people or only as objects of raw exploitation or just insofar as they wanted to totally uproot native people from their own culture and force their idea of God upon them. An incredibly destructive force on any nation's collective psyche and those scars just have not healed well up to the present-day. Europe was only able to colonize because of its technology, its technology was a great power and benefit for them... it was also an accident of history and I caution people for thinking European culture is in any way superior for that reason. Science and enlightenment are for all of humanity and all of humanity should benefit from the ways in which technology can improve our lives. Not the world we live in but the world we all need to aspire to. Let's try to pull all of humanity out from our suffering before we all kill each other or the world is engulfed in flames, please.
