The issue is we can feel things but these feelings produce behavior that can be destructive or damaging to real world outcomes. That's the rub.

55:52 resonates with me. Sometimes it seems impossible and maybe ridiculous to enjoy the theme park as we each await to have our bodies decay and to watch our parents and spouses die, in the very best case scenario. And it's hard to think of the world as a theme park when you're scared of your grandparents running out of money to pay their mortgage and as you worry about making enough money to take care of the people you love for as long as you can. Sometimes I feel like the people around me are missing the plot, as they blithely go along not preparing for any of the things that again, in the best case scenario, they will have to deal with. I'm not scared of my own death at all, because it will be an end to suffering. I hate and sometimes resent all the loss I have to experience before then, and I hate that all of that grief is things going the best they can. To the extent that my anticipatory grief impacts my ability to prepare by making it hard to socialize and build friendships I think it's a problem, but I also feel like everything is instrumentalized to decreasing suffering or more cynically to reduce impairment of functioning, and that in itself makes everything feel hollow. I can just intellectually imagine another lense, where the above attitude is like a child ruining the whole day at the theme park that they're so lucky to be at just because they'll have to leave in the evening, a park where you can enjoy every sensation and let go of any attachment, always playing with new toys and people and never mourning those lost, because the cavalcade is so rich and varied that there is always something new to enjoy. I can imagine it intellectually but I can't quite access it emotionally.
