From my research, it appears that the duck rarely randomly decides to spawn someplace near you making a single quack when it does. It will eventually despawn if not inside the inventory or a container.

Honestly, they're really hard to find sometimes. I usually just search steam for a few hours. Reddit is also a helpful place as well, but mostly just luck. Wish I had a more convenient answer haha
