If the driver had driven faster he would have got out the other side.
Did I miss when you get out of the cab switch your engine off and apply your brake.
Bridge strike tutorial: Lorries can't limbo, cautionary lessons
no doubt posted by a know nothing car driver ,!
I'm pretty new at driving with trailers. When I'm dropping a trailer off I do these things in order: 1. Apply trailer parking brake (red button) 2. Open up the fifth wheel 3. Uncouple all cables 4. Raising the truck a bit, raising it to max if it is front heavy 5. Lowering trailer legs 6. Lowering the truck 7. Drive away I notice that when I'm lowering the truck sometimes it seem to be some tension still, even though the fifth wheel is opened. And sometimes I hear a bang and then it releases so I can drive off. Is this something bad and wrong? No one has said anything when I've asked. Maybe I should drive forward just a bit and then lower before driving out completely?
Just be careful if you move forward with the trailer legs down, as you will damage the trailer legs. Other than that, I would say you're doing pretty good.
@@deepfiix Thanks for the answer. I've actually started to drive forward just a couple of centimeters before lowering the truck, no tension this time. I also lowering the legs until they touch the ground and then just raise them a centimeter or so, so that I gently lowering the trailer on the legs
Transport management are at fault, they have the responsibility on behalf of the company's they work for to ensure the drivers are suitably competent and at the very least have some understanding of the current high way code
Should’ve gone to Specsavers👀🤣
fair play to the driver he can back a wagon up
It’s a pity the same thing can’t be said about driving one forward
This is always a lorry drivers nightmare!! And to be honest, it shouldn't even be a thing!! Things like a low bridge by an industrial estate is just crazy! There's no reason for it! You can't raise a railway but you can lower a road! If you put proper drainage in to stop water pooling up, there's no excuse for a low bridge. My truck is 14"6 and there have been times my truck nav has tried to direct me under a 10'9 bridge despite me putting all the measurements into the nav! Luckily I've never hit a bridge yet, but it's an absolute pain in the arse trying to turn an articulated 44t truck around in a busy little street!!
Are lorries getting higher or bridges getting lower?
With supermarket deliveries you are often given a risk assessment pamphlet. Giving info of preferred route and risk and observations needed to adhere to at the destination. He either forgot he was pulling a double decker which sometimes is 16ft 2ins, or a newly qualified driver not sure or aware of trailer heights. Though he should be aware of his height. I doubt he is still working for ASDA.
Asda, keeping prices low, and keeping their trucks even lower
There could have being road work done that would heighten the ground
Whilst it can and does happen, I had a driver on a CPC Course that I ran that, that had happened to, but not in this instance.Bridge height 14ft, Trailer 16ft 2in, that would have been an extraordinary amount of Tarmac laid.
Well you've never seen Gateshead council put a road down then.
That last 3 point getting off 😂. He wasn’t sure which foot to lead coming down 😂. Nevertheless simple 👍
Nice clear video except an error at 1.04..commentary says 'first of July 2022' but tacho shows first of JUNE
Thank you 😊
Nice. Didn't mention lifting the legs back up a smidge off the ground to ensure easier recoupling and catching the kingpin.
Hi, With modern tractor units, you can drop the suspension to get under the trailer without damaging the mudguards and raise it back up again, taking the legs off of the floor as it shows in the video, allowing the 5th wheel to be in complete contact with the underside of the trailer. This ensures that you never miss the pin. In the 'Good Old Days' before hydraulic suspension, it was advisable to drop the trailer with the legs a couple of inches off of the floor to ensure that when you picked up the trailer you didn't miss the pin. Thank god for hydraulic suspension. You don't need to do this anymore, nor do you need to rub away the top of the mudguard in the process.
My dads a driver I’m not and it’s amazing how I know how to do this lol
Best thing to do is write down the time you clock in and out each day (or arrive at work if you don't have a clock machine) . Then enter that info into the Tachograph.
Brilliant and very thorough ... 😁😁 ... My only (tiny) issue is that the gaps between explanations seem a little long? and the tachgraph keeps defaulting to 'no button pressed' maybe doing it in real-time might help ... Not in ANY way a criticism as this video has ensured I do everything right (apart from the time I clicked 'OK' to bring the display back and accidentally approved changes ... OOPS 😒😒
Never done a manual entry, been driving 25 years, tried doing them for the last month, absolutely wrecked my readouts.....i will take the fine
No trailer parking brakes applied Lol
The trailer parking brake is applied on each and every occassion that the trailer is dropped. This is the first action that the driver takes. It shows this action clearly on the video and also in the written instructions that follow the clearly shown action. The written version also appears: 'You must always apply your trailer brake, even if the trailer has an automatic brake, to be on the safe side'. You would be surprised at how many drivers think that the parking brake is automatic on all trailers, so don't bother to put it on.
this is perhaps the 1st one I have seen on the version DTCO 4 and is very clear an concise is there a pdf document also to support this by any chance.
Hi Tony, I don't have one and I'm not sure that I have the tools to put one together. I'm organising sme Driver CPC courses at the moment, when I get a minuute, I will look into producing a pdf.
@@davidjones5367 thanks Dave great work
Very helpful
An unnecessarily over complicated tacho compared to the rest.
Good video, thanks. Say for example the day before I'd driven a vehicle with an analogue Tachograph. How would I input this information? Would I put the start time then use the unknown ? symbol? As there is no way of inputting to the tachograph driving. And of course I'd have the paper disc in my records to show actual driving.
Hi, Sorry, I have only just opened this and seen your comment. I have my own idea of what you would enter, which would be 'other work' along with your rest periods. I would also write on the paper chart that there is a cross reference to your digi tacho. To ensure that I give you the correct interpretation, I have sent the video and your question to DVSA for their take on this and see what they have to say.
Hi, I have received a reply back from Susan Traynor, DVSA, as follows:- Hi David No manual entry on the driver card is needed for driving/activities that were recorded via an analogue tachograph as the analogue record sheet is the record. Manual entries are only needed when it has not been possible to make a record, in real time, using a tachograph. Regards Susan
Hi. Thanks for your reply. So I guess when you put your card in you tell it you have been resting if you've been on analogue work previously?
well done matty,i have got my 3a test coming soon
