Doug Nash 4+3 - How to make the overdrive work when converting to a carburetor or aftermarket EFI
Просмотров 232Месяц назад
Very simple way to make your overdrive work when the factory Crossfire or TPI is removed. I am a big fan of this transmission. I like the feel of an old 4 speed on the street and when switched into overdrive on the highway I run just under 2000 rpm at 70 mph. I am not using the kickdown linkage but I've little doubt it could be hooked to the bottom of the throttle shaft assembly.

Distributorless SBC 400 Crank Trigger Ignition Megajolt DIS EDIS

Another EDIS Ignition now on a SBC 400, trigger wheel has 36-1 tooth not 32. Altogether cost was around 600 bucks though i could have done it for under 500. Very nice to find out that the Megajolt controllers tach output works perfectly with the factory tach. More work was involved with the Ford tachometer.

FL1a vs FL299 - A better oil filter for your Ford (if it fits)
Просмотров 9632 года назад
The FL299 oil filter has the same diameter and 3/4-16 thread as the FL1a with an additional 2 inches in length. Various brands have different ratings and features so cross reference the FL299 to the brand of your choice.

Two Weber DGES carbs mounted on an EFI lower intake manifold, similar to the Autolite Cross boss or Barry Grant Badman. I state that this setup flows 780 and that is incorrect. It flows around 600.

    Conventionally, Holley two barrel carburetors are flow tested at 3 inches of mercury, while four barrel carbs are tested at 1.5 inches. I had not ever seen a direct flow rating assigned to Weber carbs. They (I'm mostly familiar with side draft DCOE's and the progressive DFAV/DGAV) are usually sized by the throttle plate diameter since (in the DCOE's) you can put in different venturis and that will affect the flow characteristics.

      i had a porsche 924 with two 45 dcoe. they looked massive for the 2 liter but the car ran great. i like the accelerator pump design i think its superior to any other. that car got me into the distributorless shit too, it had the old electromotove hpv system.

    If my memory serves me, its displacement in cui x maximum engine speed divide by 3456, and then multiply by VE (volumetric efficiency) where 1= 100%, 0.9= 90% etc to get airflow requirement of an engine. I would like to see you use Mikuni BST38SS carbs.. Japanese sportbikes in the 1990s had basically the zenith of carburation, the yoshimura MJN being the pinnacle and I encourage you to research that carb. They got within 10% of EFI torque its so accurate.

      that formula is only good for engines that are near stock. with a larger cam, ported heads and long tube headers anything in the 350+ ci range that revs past 6000 should have a 750. also keep in mind that the stock 302 in 1985 made around 200 hp with a 580 cfm holley. i chose these DGES for specific reasons and im sticking with them.

    • @HeckyReckyOfficial
      @HeckyReckyOfficial 29 дней назад

      @80cobraguy I appreciate your time responding, thankyou. That formula, a major component is the VE factor, thats how you account for the increased breathing afforded by the aftermarket components you mentioned. Thanks again. Its a nice build, and I did not know weber measured their flow the way as you stated.

    why did you choose to use the weber dges carbs?

    • @80cobraguy
      @80cobraguy 4 месяца назад

      for a few reasons, the linkage runs parallel to the bores simplifying the throttle cable hook up, they look very similar to ford carbs of the time and they are very cheep. I also think its better that the throttle plates open opposite of each other rather than off to one side but that may make no difference. I considered using holleys or autolite/motorcraft 2100/2150s but decided to go with the DGES.

    • @80cobraguy
      @80cobraguy 2 года назад

      i cant say for sure i have the limiter at 6500 and hit it but it can be set to 10000 along with the programing. i had missfiring at higher revs that were solved by insulating the vr sensor wire better, firming up the sensor bracket and setting the sensor gap to .040. i could see problems with trigger wheel design, some have larger gaps, some wider teeth, some pointed. the 96-98 cobra used the same ignition and had a rev limit of 7000.
