RF85mm 2.0 AF Drive Speed
Just a showcase of the RF 85mm 2.0 AF drive speed. (Part of a forum discussion).
At least my copy is on a similar level like comperable lenses (e.g. Nikon Z 85mm 1.8). Of course the STM motor is much louder and not that great for video, but for photos it works well enough.

Just to demonstrate the (missing) importance of IBIS if you use lenses with OIS for stabilizing the EVF/display live feed. Not a scientific test and there are probably scenarios where IBIS can help on top of OIS (e.g. wide angle lenses vlog style). This video does not claim that IBIS is useless. If used in proper IBIS scenarios this technology is great. But many people do not realize that IBIS ...

Nikon Zf single point focus confirms focus on blurred background and does not really focus onto selcted object. This happens in realy world scenarios as well, e.g. when shooting kids the camera will often focus on hands or accessories in the hair or toys that are being held etc.. And all of this while an eye is being detected and shown as the active focus point.

G2 is the fastest, followed by G1 and 24-120 and as expected the 35-150 is just super slow in comparison. All lenses at ~75mm.

I really like the 35-150 but I'm not sure if it is supposed to be THAT slow. The G2 is blazing fast though. 0:00 Tamron 28-75 G2 0:16 Tamron 35-150

Actually seems to be a bit better than that of the EOS R, unfortunately update rate is like 3 times per second.

Nikon Z6 vs Canon EOS R5 vs Canon EOS R Test of subject tracking for non-detectable objects. 00:00 Nikon Z6 1:26 EOS R5 3:33 EOS R Not a scientific test. Scenarios vary in speed and jerkiness. My takeaway: Nikon Z6 has the best implementation. EOS R5 may struggle in some scenarios. EOS R is next to not useable.

Thanks for the video, is this in AF-C or in single shot focus? I believe the 35-150mm is able to change its focus speeds in AF-C using the tamron software.

Hi, this is AF-C, but unfortunately there is not such option in the tamron software. Via software you can only decide how fast the lens racks focus when using the function keys and the lens internal functions like A-B focus. This does not have any influence on the behavior when controleld by the camera itself. Plus: I tried to use the fastest A-B speed that is possible and it looks the same as a focus pull done by the camera. Therefore this is the quickest you can go even if you eliminate the camera as a factor. Outside of super fast action this is not really relevant btw. The lens is still great and you will probably have no issues with any kind of events like weddings, birthdays, etc.. The shown behavior gets only relevant when shooting fast sports action, there you might miss some shots compared to a fast lens like the G2 (or of course superfast lenses like the Nikkor Z 70-200).

Do you see any image quality differences between 28-75 G1 vs G2? Thanks!

Yes, the G2 is significantly better overall. G1 is sharp in the center but gets weak when approaching the edges. G2 is more uniform and has more pleasing bokeh. Go for G2 if you can. Price is very similar.

You're welcom. To provide a bit of context: This is not a video that is intended for the broader public and it certainly is not a piece of art. It is a demonstration for a very specific forums post. If you just watch the videos in this channel it might be a bit confusing / nondecsript. Just don't watch my videos. :-)

oh. nikon z 28-75 = tamron G1 ?? and g2 is new version. . and 2870g2 is same technology like 2470g2 DSLR. thank you

Yes the Nikon 28-75 is the G1 design. Not sure about G2 and DSLR 24-70. I don't think so. It has no VC and a different motor and the G2 has 17 elements in 15 groups, whereas the DSLR lens has 17 elements in 12 groups. So I would assume that they differ. That being said: The first 8 elements or so look quite similar, the rest does not.

Update: I sent the 35-150 to Tamron. They tested it and concluded that everything is fine. So it clearly is a great but not that snappy lens.

I think that the difference in their focusing behavior may be part of the fact that, as far as it seems from some notorious reviews, the 35-150mm is more video oriented whereas the 28-75 is much more photo oriented, then the super quick but uglier focusing speeds
