    Great video. At 5 min 20 seconds GVM was explained with the van unhitched. You must include the ball weight as part of the GVM. I must have missed the axel weights. The must have 7 to 10% of the trailer weight on the ball is technically not correct. This is a guide and is dependant on many factors. Trucks often have no weight on the A frame. Another example is with extended draw bars and short draw bars.

    Be careful with Kerb weight. Does not always include the driver. For example, I'm evaluating a Ford Everest 2023 and specs for Kerb weight explicitly say that it does not include occupants. Only includes a full tank of fuel and no occupants or cargo. Bummer really since there goes 90 kg just to get the thing moving! Cheers

    Since when did Kerb weight include a driver? Not one source from any vehicle manufacturer can I find, that the Kerb mass includes a driver. There are so many vague definitions of Curb/Kerb mass that it is ridiculous. It is not a reliable starting point, tare is the only starting point we have that is reliable and consistent, it includes 10L of fuel. Prove me wrong.

    I don't believe you has covered the importance of GCM sufficiently. Most dual cab Utes have a GCM around 6000 kg, while stating they have a tow capacity of 3500 kg. Towing a van that weights 3500kg means that you can probably only tow legally with a full tank of fuel, one passenger and no accessories or other gear in the ute. Leave the family and most of your gear that does't fit in the caravan at home.

    Hi free thinkers , your quote,"help carry load"? Did you mention the tyre load limit stated on tyre? Two tyres load limit 1080kg each. Caravan single axle, 2500kg weight, 1080kg x 2= tyres load rate 2160kg, underrated tyres single axle. Fit 1350kg per tyre x 2 = 2700kg load limit for 2500kg van weight? 8-03-2022.

  • @stevenrobinson9095
    @stevenrobinson9095 2 года назад

    Hi free thinkers, also consider weight over trailer tyres, do not overload one side, another factor is tyre load rating, if tyre trailer load per tyre 1080kg, & weight of trailer is 2500kg the tyres under rated. 7-03-2022.

    PAY the extra for "agreed value" , if it does not say the words" Agreed value " it is not an "agreed value" , lot of words like , sum insured , or market value , or the lesser ,retail value , they all mean market value ( except for agreed value ) that is the ins company , will determine the value of your van, , and NOT YOU , if something untoward happens , and you thinks its worth thousands more , the extra $100 ( or what ever it is ) for agreed , will look pretty cheap , and no arguments with an assessor over the market value ,, ( guess what is do for a living )

    Make sure you install a weight distribution hitch to prevent sway and rollover. Never tow on the ball directly without spring tension bars properly adjusted. This should be mandatory.

      WDS shifts the load from the tow ball and distributes the weight on the rear car axels to the front wheels and trailer. They should be banned. WDS must be removed when on unsealed roads or negotiating driveways etc. also WDS laces stresses on the chassis of the car and the draw bar. WDS does not imply yaw (sway) prevention. Sway retention is a function of weight distribution including van, tow vehicle. Best to put some scales under the front wheels and compare unhitched and hitched. The purpose of WDS is to transfer weight to the front wheels so you can get proper steering.

So when I hook them both up together comes to 5.8 ton. Came I drive it on the road. This a grey zone for some people. I know may can tow it. The 4.5 ton the problem am I over weigh for my license. @@IH-nr7dx I don't believe this. How can the weight of a driver be included when people come in all shapes and sizes. Also wouldn't this be stated? Otherwise how would you know if the kerb weight includes the driver or not? Which car maker includes the driver in the kerb weight? And what weight did they choose for the driver? And how do you know said car maker includes the driver in kerb weight? To sum I don't believe any manufacturer includes the driver in kerb weight

    There is a major error here regarding kerb wieght. Firstly tare weight is the vehicle as it comes fro. The factory with 10 litres of fuel Cut and pasted from Toyota Kerb Mass (or Kerb Weight): is the mass of the vehicle in running order unoccupied and unladen with all fluid reservoirs filled to nominal capacity, including fuel and with all standard equipment. This I got from Toyota own website and this is for all vehicles You may want to amend this in the interest of correct information

    Just one minute the circuit in a house for said power outlet be that 10 amp or 15amp is installed with wire that is rated above the capacity of the circuit breaker. So, just illegally as you put it, putting a modified 15amp three pin plug with the earth pin filed down to fit a 10 amp GPO will have zero bearing on the fire hazard. On that point your house certificate of compliance covers the house not what you plug into it. You are legally even if if stupidly allowed to plug what ever you want to a GPO in your house.
