30,000km Caravan Checkup 🙌
A bit of a recap… after 10 months and 30,000kms we checked in with Paul at @wonderroocaravans while we visited the Melbourne factory, talking all things van life and travel!
Everything from our favourite location, budgeting, how the van held up, to plan ahead or wing it, dealing with a small space and kids 24/7 as well as a walk around to cover changes and mods we’ve made to the van in our time on the road.
Enjoy!

Custom building a caravan - why it’s worth the effort and our tips and advice to get it right
Просмотров 3 тыс.4 месяца назад
Custom building can be an intimidating and time consuming process but we’re running through some of our best decisions in the build process as well as what we’d change. The team at @wonderroocaravans do it all in house and it made it super easy to make our new van not only perfect for us but also perfect for everywhere we want to travel! #customcaravan
Prepping the Van for the Gibb River Road | Adding extra rock protection and MORE
Просмотров 7 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Hitting the GRR (otherwise known as the ‘The Caravan Killer’) is right at the top of our Australian travel bucket list. Add to that the fact we attempted it last year but got flooded out with an unseasonal rain band and we’re seriously PUMPED to hit it again this year.To prep the van as best as we possibly can for this famous stretch of dirt road, corrugations and the inevitable rock damage, we...
Does your Caravan have SECURITY? We talk security systems with RV Secure
Просмотров 5906 месяцев назад
When we sold our house and moved into a caravan it wasn’t lost on us that this is all we have! So a quality security system to protect our investment - and our home - was an absolute no brainer. We’ve had RV Secure on our @wonderroocaravans van for 4 months now and rate it so took the opportunity to add a few upgrades with the team while we were in their hometown of Perth.

NOOSA WITH LITTLE KIDS ~ A compilation of must-dos!
Gteat to see you guys back. Wonder Roo HQ 30km our adventures 40km and 10months still only made it to Perth
Haha but doing it thoroughly! Safe travels :)
Thanks for sharing your experience and all the videos you posted! We have got two questions: Why did you go with a smaller custom builder? What would you suggest to parents who have kids and want to take them on bushwalks? We currently have a 7mth old and a 3 yo. Many thanks :-)
Hey guys! Thanks heaps for watching, hopefully they were of some help. We went for a smaller custom builder mostly because of attention to detail and build quality as well as customer service. We really felt taken care of in the build and still feel that way as part of their family. Oooh bushwalks... definitely get at least one decent hiking carrier. We have a fully structured Osprey one for our 4 year old still and it's a saviour. At one point when the kids were younger we'd hike with 2! They last for much longer/bigger kids than a regular child carrier and provide more support for the parent too. Aside from that - embrace some whinging. Unfortunately it's inevitable but we try to teach the girls that hiking lets you see things you can't in a car. And snacks! Hope that helps :) Carissa
Why?
Hi Guys, price point for your set up would be good to share. Thanks.
Hey guys.. have been following.. I'm still keen on wonder roo...but keeping my options open. But keep coming back to w r.. you guys happy still.. and would you go w r again . If ever... I'm travelling nth qld so like your self, just can't pop in to the factory Cheers guys...... .
Hey mate! Thanks for following :) We love our Roo, truly. It's been so good. Having now done the Gibb River Road and over 6 months on the road without a single breakage, we really can't fault it's durability and build quality. We definitely would build a Roo again but wouldn't make too many changes! Like we say in the video - the things we'd amend would all be stuff we can change on this one (add powerpoints, extra fans etc). Can definitely relate to the feeling of being in NQ and unable to pop into the factory - we signed the deal and paid our deposit having never seen one which was daunting. There's a really great owners group on FB too if you ever wanted to reach out the community of owners. We did fly down to rainy cold Melbourne once to meet the team, walk around the floor and do the colour selections and then just had faith and trust in the team! And it all paid off. Wishing you all the best with your decision, cheers.
@laidback_adventures thx guys, I guess a trip down south is on the cards... after CY .. Great job on your videos...
Thanks for the run-throughs, you lot are great. With the old Jayco, if you had your time again, would you have gone with the "Off-Grid X" model? Obviously you'd go with the WonderRoo now knowing what you know, but I noticed in your Jayco tour there was mention of the rear storage customisations and buying your own inverter, etc... I'm currently in a spiral trying to pick a Jayco for very similar purposes as yours - so very curious! Also, that a water leak @10:24?
Hey, thanks very much for the comment, that’s a tough question, we didn’t get an opportunity to look at an off-grid x as they weren’t out at that time. Think they come out the year after. In saying that my thoughts and heaps of people probably have different but, they would be same build quality, same floor plan roughly and knowing what we know now I’d go with a Battery system with inverter all inbuilt from the get go so systems all match. The rear bar storage was super easy to get installed after but eats into your payload so a van with it already you know the payload you are getting. Among others some of the biggest life changes/luxuries we have from the Jayco to now are the inverter system and airbag suspension (no more ramps to level the van). Sorry not sure that helps at all 😅.
Ooh good eyes 10.24, never noticed the water before haha, Can’t remember what it would have been now, I haven’t fixed any leaks since then so 🤷♂️
@@laidback_adventures Legend, nah seriously that does help a lot... yeah the Off Grid X stacks another few grand onto the base price but adds 3000w inverter and larger 400ah battery, (etc...). I wasn't too concerned until coming across a few videos where people have added inverters and swear by em. Thanks for replying - hope you're all loving life!
Thanks for the video. Are you referring to your AC charger within your van is a 180 amps? How do you find the Yamaha? Did you have this in your Jayco?
@@michaele8922 Yep, the AC charger not 12v. Yamaha has been great so far but we haven’t used it heaps to be honest. No we only had a 30amp AC charger in the Jayco
Did I see this set up in margarey river WA olive farm? Great van!
@@dancotter7050 back around Easter 👌
@laidback_adventures Have you guys managed to have your full set up weighed yet? And is your LC300 standard suspension or have had a GVM upgrade?
Hey, the 300 has suspension and gvm upgrade done along with airbags and rear axle upgraded. We had the set up weighed early in the trip and were all good. On the limit on some weights which we shuffled things around but over all we were very happy with it.
Hi how much power have you got ?
Go team! 🙌
So looking forward to seeing what unfolds 👍😎😎🥳🥳
woot woot! Can't wait
So cool guys can’t wait to do this ourselves
thankyou! We're looking forward to getting into it all
My wife and I are also looking at the Wander Roo and hopefully be doing some smaller trips while our grandkids are in primary. Love where you are and will be putting it on my places to visit list. Cheers from Geelong
Oh amazing! We love our Roo!! Make sure you tell the team hi from us, they do a fantastic build - wishing you many happy memories with the family ❤
Hi there.. sounds good, so how long were you off grid,,, and nice van... talking to Paul at the moment thx....
Hey Steve, We did 7 nights for this that trip and had rain for 3 of the days. We’ve just finished another 11 nights at 3 different stops so had some driving in between and everything went well. Happy to answer any question you have about the van as well. We love it
@laidback_adventures thx guys I'll keep watching for more updates..have fun 😁
Not sure it counts as off grid living, if you bring your own grid with you. :P
Camping with creature comforts 😂
No cooling upgrade? Brake up grade?
No cooling or brake upgrades needed at this point 👍
Congratulations, it’s the way to go. Look forward to following your adventures. 🎉
thanks so much :) We certainly agree. Appreciate the support!
Hi, the fuel tank for your diesel heater looks very awkward to fill but may be optical illusion ? Also, is it on the same side as the filler on your vehicle ?
Hey mate, it is probably a touch high, easy to fill with a bowser bit more difficult with a Jerry. For our car it’s the opposite, I’m sure others it’s the same so tough one and something we didnt consider. Honestly hasn’t affected us at all though so far every bowser the same hose has reached the car and the van but I’m sure a time will come I’ll have to do both. Lucky we aren’t in a rush 😊
Wow lot of thought gone into the van .. love it ,,, can I ask the brand model of coffee machine nice and compact.. well done 👍👍
Hey thanks heaps! We love it :) Of course - Sunbeam Compact Barista. We rate it!! Enjoy
Hey guys, really nice van and packed a lot into the size. What did your tare weight end up at, if you dont mind me asking. Cheers Shayne
Hey Shane, thanks very much mate, we love it! We are around 2900kg tare
Amazing amount of features given the size of the van. I especially like the rear toolbox with slide out drawer, don’t think have seen that before. 👍🏻
I agree haha - we love it and love that we’ve kept it down to the 19.6 🙌 Cheers 🙏🙏
Hi, we’re getting the same fridge as you guys in our van. How do you find the average power draw. We’ve ordered 200amp lithium with 440w solar and external separate 200w portable solar, wondering if it’s enough power.? Cheers
It’s a great fridge! We’re coming fresh off leaving our inverter overnight so just don’t do that and you should be right 😂😅 We find it uses an average 6-10 amps but depends how much we’re in and out of it and what temp it’s on. Also depends what else you use - could struggle with back to back cloudy days… sorry that’s not much use 🙈
@@laidback_adventures thanks for the reply, is that 6-10 amps per hour?
@@ironnatz6791yeh but definitely changes the more you are in and out of it and the outside temp as well, if you get a full arvo of sun on the fridge side of the van it will work harder
@@laidback_adventures thanks again, if I’m getting a full arvo of sun on the fridge I’ll be getting it on the panels aswell so should be good. Happy easter.
Ive got a 90 litre fridge in a slide on camper 200amp battery which is fine but i have a strip light turned on it uses alot of power an if you get a few days of rain you’ll struggle id look at getting another 200amp i reckon you’ve got enough solar panels though I’m looking at getting another 2 maybe 300 amp
Beautiful van guys, well done!
Cheers guys! We do love it 🙏
G you can see that you have put a lot of thought into this Build and OMG Wonder Roo have done an incredible job 10/10 👍
They sure have! Quality build, we certainly agree. Cheers 🙏
Neat setup, thanks for the video 👍🏻
Cheers mate! Safe travels :)
What where the basket for the cupboard near the stove please
Hi, so sorry we missed this question, the baskets and draw runners m are from Bunnings
Thank you much appreciated for the message
Great video guys. Good luck on the road. Really enjoyed your real life review of the Jayco too, would love to see one for the new van, particularly how you manage weight. All the best
Hey mate, thanks heaps for that, really appreciate the feedback and your kind words. We've got one in the works on the new van - hoping to have it up by the end of the month! Cheers :)
The ass end has been flogged out of (How to prepare for a lap around Australia 🤭🤭🤭 Next time try to be Unique and not be like the rest of the SHEEP!!!! 🤭
Massive congratulations on all your hard work in prep for living the dream ❤ Would love to see the decision process for the sale of the Jayco and the purchase of the Wonderer please 🙏🏻
Hey thanks so much, really appreciate the kind words and support. We've filmed a new vid as a walkaround of the Wonder Roo with some info on why the change - hopefully have it up by end of the month :) Cheers!
Well done 100%do it why your young enjoy
Thanks heaps! Absolutely agree
Excited for you guys! We’re heading south ourselves very shortly 🙌🏻🥳
Hey thanks heaps!! How good is that!!!!! Enjoy :)
Why did you get rid of the Jayco?
We travelled in it for almost 2 years, worked out what we liked and didn't like and then custom built exactly what we wanted for full-time travel 🥰 Nothing wrong with the Jayco whatsoever, we actually sold it to a family member, but definitely a bit of luxury in the upgrade 🤩🤩🤩
@@laidback_adventures thanks for the reply, I’m looking at one so doing the research. Cheers
@@ironnatz6791 it's a good van! All the best with the choice
Morgs, 10kg 😅😅😅 classic. Well done guys to see it through and do what's important to you.
Thanks Mate! 10kg and some probably 😂. Been unreal so far and so much still to go!
Well done guys see you out there we did the same
Good on you guys!!! So so worth it 🙌 Safe travels and hopefully see you on the road
It will be interesting to watch your journey as we are starting our lap doing Tasmania. First,we hope to see guys on the road
Hey thanks guys! Travel safe and enjoy Tassie!! Epic place to start 🙌
Well done. Very proud if you. Life is amazing if you step outside the system. We are having a break after 10 years and it is so daunting being back in all the structures of life and the worries it brings. Let alone the bloody extra cleaning and mowing. See how long we last. Planning on heading to WA next year,so might need to pick your brains next time. The best thing you could have done for you both and the children...Enjoy ❤️ 😉
Thanks Dee! You guys are an absolute inspiration!! Gosh already dreading that transition back to 'life'... and how good is no mowing!!!
As a 58 year old guy that LOVES to travel I wanted to say I think you are doing the right thing. Do it while you're young and healthy. "Things" come and go. Experience's last a life time. I wish you safe and fun travels. "Keep on Truckin"
Thanks so much for your kind words, we absolutely agree. Just gotta get out there and go 🙌 Cheers
Awesome van guys! We just started our journey 3 days ago! 🤙🏽
Hey thanks guys!!! Oh amazing! Safe travels and hopefully see you out there
how did you get a free caravan with so few followers?
Oh man wouldn’t that be nice! Biggest myth going. Definitely didn’t get a free caravan… this is our van that we purchased. Does that actually happen for anyone but Chris Hemsworth? 🤣
@@laidback_adventures Not sure about Chris, that said I may not have heard the part where you said you’d bought a new van. Cheers for the reply.
Such a great feature to be able to top up with solar while you drive. 👍👍👍
It’s a brilliant system!!! 🙏
Dumb question.. what is the bubble wrap insulation on top of the washing machine? Never seen it before so just curious 😊
No dumb questions! It’s actually a piece of chopped up reflective windscreen shield that we put over the sky light in the shower at night to black out the light for the kids bunks
@@laidback_adventures hahaaa.. hubby thought that it was some professional installation of sound deadening to quieten down the washing machine or something.. 😅🤣
Wouldn’t that be genius! Wish it was 🤣
😪 "Promosm"
What is the weight upgraded to on your rear diff. Also what is the weight you are carrying on your rear diff ( as in with gear kids ect )
Hey, 2100kg rear diff weight now. Depends on gear we have in the car and the ball weight of the van. When weighed before we left home we were all good 👍
Please lose the eBay popups. And PLEASE lose the music, I'm halfway through the video and already am about to rip my ears off. Nice work otherwise!
Thanks for watching and sorry about your ears 🫠
While you’re in Katherine, go to the Hot Springs, just Google for the directions and you’ll be fine
Hey thanks! We checked that one out - cool spot huh!
Awesome destination 🥰
Great spot!
Literally can not wait, we've heard the fishing is amazing, but kinda freaked about the crocs eating our dogs 😅 Def's no jumping off the boat x great adventures 😊 Jacinta (mum)
Yes please 😊❤
So pretty
Wow such a beautiful spot that water 😊 ❤
It really is!
