Thanks for the videos and cheers from Finland! Just started teaching my 4-year-old to skate and I'm definitely going to use some of your techniques. Can't draw on the ice though since we're using public skate rinks but the exercises themselves should still be fairly similar.

In short: If you have trouble remembering the differences, A counter mimics a bracket entry and a rocker mimics a three turn entry on edge but with a different free foot placement

The figure method on the counter is to lead with the inside arm to prevent a change of edge and end up technically doing a three turn.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you. Your tips and suggestions made my 3 year olds first skate a huge success. He was up on his own the first day. There were some tears from not being able to play hockey immediately 😅 but he is so excited to go again !

I wish I had a backyard rink. Public rinks are so annoying. Always crowded and there are no "not busy" times since they're only open for family skate every so often. We need space, quiet, time, and fun stuff. A backyard rink would be perfect, but impossible. Anyway, the little dude took one step on ice and just wailed, there was no consoling him.

This is really helpful. Any tip for kid that is more on the conservative side which does fine with stepping but lack a little "push" to run?

I'm a hockey coach for 4yr olds in Dubai (my son being one of them) and I used your approach to help them balance and stand. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! Within two sessions, we had most kids falling and standing all by themselves. You are amazing and thank you for your great teaching advice!
