Fencing Skills - Rewiring an Epee
Просмотров 12 тыс.8 лет назад
In this video the process of rewiring an epee is shown. if you break a wire the blade is still usable, you must only rewire it. to do this there are eight small steps: 1. Strip all of the glue from the blade. This is most important, as any residual glue will mean that the new glue will not bond directly to the blade and you will find that you need to carry out another rewire very soon! In this ...

Fencing Footwork and Drills - The Basics
Просмотров 47 тыс.8 лет назад
A quick run through of some fencing footwork and drills. The main points to focus on while fencing are: Lifting toe on step forward, leading foot always moves first, i.e. on step forward, front foot moves first, on step backwards back foot moves first. Both feet land at the same time when completing a step. On the lunge and fléche always ensure that your hand straightens before you move into th...

    Small point: when lunging push from the back foot, but DON'T go over an the side of the foot, as this slows recovery in the event you are parried and need to get out of the way quickly; keep the back foot flat on the floor and allow it to slide forward if necessary.

    Do you have have any tips on doing the squatting part of this drill? I've been looking through a bunch of disciplines trying to figure out how to level change without eventually blowing out my knees.

    I studied boxing for 5 years. Will it screw my habits up if I learn to fence? I notice the footwork is different, in the sense that in fencing you land on the heel first, instead of on the balls of your feet.

      @12x12surface boxers tend to be very good fencers as you understand timing and have the ability to move your front foot first (which is not a natural movement). Give it a go! You're not going to ruin your footwork, only increase your skills in timing and tactics

    I don't coach rolling over the back foot at lunging as well as holding the weapon the the pommel.

      Franco Scaramuzza I have always found positive reinforcement works best from a coaching perspective. Fencing is speaking with swords, not everyone has the same dialect, but the one that can use the intricacies of their language to their advantage the most will win in the end.

      Eanna Bailey do you like squash adidas shoes better than regular adidas fencing shoes?

    • @eannabailey1020
      @eannabailey1020 7 лет назад

      Sergey Egorkin yes. I do not like the high ankles on the fencing shoes and they do not fit my foot very well. the squash shoes provide good balance with a wide sole, aswell as good responsiveness. I always have to modify shoes for my feet however, on these shoes I cut one of the eyes open on my back foot. this allows me to move my ankle freely in the fencing position.

    I always put the glue into the blade and wait 3 minutes before I line in the wires. So I have an additional isolation between the wires and the blade, because sometimes the textile isolation of the wires is insufficient. And it sticks the wires better in its position. After that I twirl the wire from back of the tang towards the blade so the wire holds itself in position. For bending the blade I use a a cord with a narrow loop on one end and small hook on the other end. I put the loop over the tang then bend the blade and hook the hook into the barrel. The blade then looks like a bow with the cord as its string and I can put it anywhere for drying over night. No risk of anyone opening the door and accidentally tearing down the bended blade.

      Kipik Artist if it's fast it's fast. All that matters in epee is that you hit first. Being to rigorous to textbook movements will restrict you

      @@eannabailey1020 Your first part is true. Fast is fast... but if you are jumping up instead of lunging forward, you are adding time, which is no good.

    Or bend the blade using a chain instead of the door frame.

  • @samsignorelli
    @samsignorelli 8 лет назад

    I'd be VERY careful of using a fibreglass wheel to clean the groove...that will actually cut through the steel. A diamond wheel does the cleaning job just fine and does not cut through the blade. There are also a lot of things missing from the vid. It's generally good, but you skip over a number of things like leveling the contacts, bending the blade backwards to look for popouts, properly stripping the wire for assembly, etc. I've lost count of how many foils and epees I've rewired over the years....when yo do as many as I do, you learn things.

    I personally feel it depends on your level and goals. A specific fencing coach will teach one 'school' of fencing. If you aim to be the best in the world I feel that you need to find a coach that can coach his/her 'school' of fencing to a world class level. However if you are just beginning it wouldn't hurt to try a few different lessons with a few different coaches until you find the type of fencer you would like to be. You must then work with that coach on that type of fencing until you achieve your goals. one of the hardest things when starting out is to find out your strengths, or your natural instincts. once you have found them, work to them. make your instincts your strengths, through training them so that you can have a natural advantage. for instance, I am a large fencer, with a lot of power, so naturally you would think that attacking is my strongest point. however, when I am being attacked I can move back quicker than most, so I have used this natural advantage, trained it until it is better and become quite an effective stop hitter... my fleiche is also quite good, however I get a larger percentage of hits going backwards. so my advice when starting out would be to work with a few different coaches for a short period of time, but ask yourself as soon as you can what type of fencer am I and stick to the coach that can coach that specific type of fencer the best.
