Nissan Piston Comparison RB25DET Series 1 vs RB25DET NEO // NISSAN TECH TALK!
This is just a quick video to show the different piston dome profile between the RB25DET Series 1/2 vs the RB25DET Neo. The neo has a smaller combustion chamber in the head which disallows use of normal RB25 Series 1/2 pistons!

Absolutely the best production engine. Unlimited budget, would be RB30 bottom end with an RB25DET head.

Heck yea. You will end up with a higher compression engine with oil squirters. It is a great setup to make power, but remember to pull a couple degrees of timing on your base while you figure out what the engine wants!
Can I use 25det pistons within 25det neo engine?
I have not tried it, but I wouldn't suggest it. The domes are very different. I will be doing more testing with heads in the near future to see how different the heads actually are.
Nothing against the rb25 but could you remove the rb25 and install a 26 on a r34?
Yea. When people do the swap, they generally just grab a Wiring Specialties harness and weld the holes in the oilpan where the axle went through. pretty simple job, but an RB26 is essentially a non-VTC version of the RB25DET Neo.
Can you use a de piston on det block with de head
You absolutely can. The 25 blocks are all very similar; some DE didn’t have the turbo drain hole, early 25’s and all 26’s don’t have VTC oil feed. As long as pistons match head, you should be good.
I've had a rebuild about a year ago On my 25det neo Comestic steel headgasket Arp headstuds Acl main bearings and big end bearings Machined crank for oil pump drive collar. How much power do you think it'll handle?
Pistons and Rods will be hanging on for their life at 500whp. The pistons hold together pretty well if you have a good flowing turbine housing and exhaust, and if you avoid detonation. The rods in the neo are supposed to hold up better than the S1/S2, but big torque numbers snapped my S1 rod right in half like a joke.
Doesnt the 99 rb25det neo have the longer crank collar?
When ypu say long block, are there shorter rb blocks? I was under the impression that the 20,25,26 were all the same size block. 😀
Short block meaning an assembled bottom end with no head. Long block being a complete engine with no accessories. The tall deck blocks are just called RB30’s whether they are factory RB30 or aftermarket.

Great video! What intake manifold would you recommend for a rb20de neo ?
The plazmaman manifolds are great, but for an RB20DE, I wouldn’t invest a ton of money into it. Toss a stock RB25DET Neo turbo on it and some turbo injectors, with a good tune!
@@MayesBuilt yeah for sure! just a little hard finding a 25 neo in my location they all get snagged up fast. So I thought if just push for around 330 in the 20 I got 440cc injectors as well so nothing to crazy
Would the rear head drain be enough or adding oil delivery blockoffs as well improve odds against oil starvation?
The most important mod would be a good baffled catch can if not a dry sump. Crank case ventilation is half the problem.
There are a lot of variables that will help you decide what oil system you would want. I went external wet sump with a larger pan and Ross head drain. Any road course car will require baffling or dry sump.
The vl commodore doesn’t come with an rb25, it comes with a rb30

Bought a rb25de cylinder 5 exhaust valve leaking . Rest are no leak but compression test 110 all 6. wet test 120 psi. Will C5 issue leads to all 6 low comp?
If you can test 120 across all 6, the valve is still doing its job. If you pull the head, you can remove the exhaust valve springs and hand lap the valves. I would just run it if you have 110-120 psi compression. How did you identify the cyl 5 valves as leaky?
@@MayesBuilt I did a leak down test after wet test came maybe extra 7 psi on all 6( all 6 110 psi dry test engin on the ground off car). C5 TDC leaking from exhaust side. If I crank the engine little but by hand it jumps from exhaust to intake side air leaking. I was assuming DE has higher compression so 120ish pretty low.whatd your thoughts?.
I got a S1 rb25de. Can I use 5he vct oil return T it and use it for turbo oil return?
switch to -10 AN or oe turbo drain into the block, as it is bigger, then you should be good to use it for both.

I have done 400 hp on a stock engine. You risk piston damage when you try to push much more than that running stock pistons and ring gaps.
Persons have made 500hp on e85 and rumors of even 700hp. I've seen a guy in Australia make 900+hp on stock rods and pistons but he did headstuds, rod bolts and built head.
Malaysian tuner made 600whp on stock rb25det

Crank collar mod is needed. There’s rumours floating around that some were long nose from factory, but that’s a myth until someone can prove otherwise with photo evidence as far as I’m concerned.

We Are Legion!. No, I’ve known Morgan for some years, I met him through a car I had when I was like 18, I’m 22 now. I live in the next town over from him.
I helped him with setting up the weights when he weighed his car at Brookfield High School.
