My 6.2 liter Camaro HAD that and AFM... both are now gone. While great ideas for "lowering fuel consumption" they weren't that effective. My engine is now more reliable than factory. And I'm still getting within the manufacturers claim if 16-20 mpg

Its all just. More bullshit that has to be replaced often, expecially if using 5-20 wt synthetic oil, and live in Arizona, if you dont start burning oil and engine rattles and knocks start towrds the 1,00,000.mile mark then you must be using 10/30 winter 10/40 summer. The syn oil creates a dirty engine inside, and because of the build up it is bad for your bearings and timming chain components. The 5-20 when hot is thinner than water, thats going to beat the shit out of your engine, oil must cusion the areas between metals. Not run iff, regular oil changes if your not a cheap ass, can. Last a engine for several hundred thousands. But if you like using the pathetic synthetic you should get the heavy weight here in hell. Conventional engine oil like Valvoline will last your engine for a very long time,
Conversely, at -25C I'd rather have synthetic oil and be able to start my vehicle, instead of having all those waxy long chain hydrocarbons impurities thickening up into something that the oil pump can barely move. But that's a different kind of hell.
That cam phaser and vvt solenoid look like thier for a Ford 5.4 3 valve.
So I guess the next question is this single or double cam or is this a single split cam.
DOHC with VVT on the intake only. Although similar designs are used on many SOHC & DOHC engines.
Do you now how much SC Oil you removed? The refill amount is 4.7 oz. If over-filled, you can damage the SC.

Would appreciate seeing you do the procedure on the front end. I have a 2004 F-150 with annoying squeaks.
The front end won't be as straight forward. I would look at the struts and mounts as a likely cause.
I am not a master mechanic just an enthusiast and I was able to rebuild the 5.4 motor in my 2002f 150, the timing procedure seemed a little confusing but after doing it it is not that complicated but it is difficult to work on it in the engine bay because of the overhead cams makes the engine wide, otherwise it was not that horrible just a little bit for an old guy like me.

LMAO I have owned them. the 5.4 sux. you had to jack up the cab on my expo just to change the back passenger plug... next will be the "3 valves are awesome" video.
I have a 2007 5.4L with 185k miles. Oil changes done every 3-5k on it. I just got a passenger side exhaust manifold leak fixed and now the constant ticking and lack of torque is gone. On startup though, it seems to rattle and the steering wheel shakes for a few seconds. Any ideas?
Cam phasers are a problem with those engines and that would be my assumption, but not looking at it and hearing it who knows, but that is most likely your culprit.
The rattle makes me think cam phasers, but another issue these engines have are rocker arms, they start to tick before they go out completely.

When they started peeing in the gasoline years ago I noticed an immediate loss of power and mileage. When I lived in Colorado 35 years ago the MTBE did the same thing, but it also polluted the groundwater and destroyed carburetors, all while doing NOTHING to address Denver's brown cloud. Bonus: it was significantly more expensive than the summer mix gasoline that didn't have it. Turned out the brown cloud had nothing to do with automotive emissions, but was the result of pulverized sand put down during snowstorms. They never ran street sweepers through to clean it up, so it just sat on the road getting ground into a fine dust.
I have a 2007 5.4L 3V with 185k on the clock. Tows trailers in 100*F weather without any complaints 120 miles round trip. It actually has never left me stranded in my 8 years of ownership. I think the 5.4L is really slept on.

Funny the radio nob blew my system too. Went super loud. Had the same problems on everything except the power steering. The coils was the worst one went after another.

I bought a higher mileage 5.4 about a month or 2 ago. I bought it at 256,9xx it's an 02 F250. I had to neuter the 4wd (I don't need it anyway) and it needs some normal maintenance here and there (brakes a power steering line and new spark plugs) but I've driven it from central Ohio to Pittsburgh and back and it handled the hills and the entire trip like it was nothing. In fact I even saw a GAIN in my MPG from 11.7 to 13.6! Keep in mind I've done nothing to this truck but neuter the 4wd a few weeks before the trip, change the air filter and change the oil! It was a tank service truck from when it was new until 2014 when the company sold it to the farmer I bought it off of at 246,xxx miles. He had it from then until I bought it at 256,9xx and it's been really good to me so far. I'm so glad I bought it!

2003 Lariet, had to change the plastic intake at 150k miles because the crossover tube was leaking coolant into cylinder one spark plug tube, fouling out the coil pack. When I had the intake off replacing it, I did the plugs, injectors and all new German high output coil packs. Been running like a champ ever since. 250,000 miles and going.

Thanks! Zero regrets with mine 5 years later. I think the biggest thing with the s550 GT500 is the price. Both the car itself, as well as the parts. I also prefer a manual car, not as fast, but adds to the experience, in my opinion. I have not had the opportunity to drive one of those!

I've got a 98 Navigator with the 5.4 Triton. When I did a general search it was being told as a four valve but I have the angled coil boots. Does that mean that I have the two valve engine?
